We are a family of five living on the west coast in Sweden, at Blomsholm, a little bit outside Strömstad. We love this old house that has so much character. During 2022, we have done a major renovation of Solhem. We have put a lot of effort into the indoor environment and we are so pleased with the result! It's been hard work and a pleasure from start to finish. Now it's time to share Solhem with you! We hope you will like the back side too with the large lawn where you get a lot of space. The outside of Solhem will get a real makeover with new windows in the latter part of 2023.

Solhem is from the 1920s and really has character. It has been a real pleasure to renovate this house and bring out the beauty and make it homely. The kitchen from the 50s has been allowed to remain even though it is not quite at a height for today's tall people or has self-closing drawers. We don't regret it for a second. Instead, we have installed an induction hob and convection oven and a new fridge with freezer. There is also a new coffee maker, kettle, microwave and toaster. Porcelain and glass, on the other hand, are beloved flea market finds.
The wooden floors are newly sanded in most rooms, there is a new shower cabin, TV (50 inches), Chromecast, Wi-Fi and more. When we renovated one of the bedrooms, we found a beautiful wooden floor under the laminate floor as well as pearl rafters and an old original door in turquoise color under the wallboards. It's wonderful details that give the house character! The bed is 180 cm wide. In the largest bedroom, which is also upstairs, there is a double bed of 160 cm and two single beds that are 90 cm wide. The room is bright and nice, and quite large (4 x 5 metres).

Bohuslän and the west coast are fantastically beautiful and unique with rocks, cobs, seaweed, crabs and mussels. It takes 20 minutes to drive into Strömstad. From Strömstad, boats go out to Koster Islands, Sweden's most inhabited place. Koster Islands has a marine nature reserve and is known for it's beautiful environment. The lake Flöghulttjärnen is 70 meters from the house, and you can see it between the pine trees in the garden. It is a small shallow sandy beach with a jetty. It takes 3 minutes to walk here; over a lawn and a minor road. Our 7-year-old goes here by himself. It is not crowded at all, but is calm and quiet.
For salty swimming in Idefjorden, it takes five minutes by car to Krokstrand. The sandy beach in Krokstrand is child-friendly with a jetty. There is a simpler restaurant within walking distance. The Idefjord forms the national border with Norway, so it is Norway you see on the other side. Within a 20-minute drive, there are many bathing spots to choose from along the coast of Bohuslän. We have compiled some information about our personal favorite restaurants, beaches and suggestions for excursions that are in the house when you arrive. Solhem, as the house has been called for a long time, is located in a tiny community called Flöghult. There are no shops here, but a cozy playground in a grove and swimming area in the lake Flåghultstjärnen.
