We enjoy hosting a charming family and dog-friendly B&B within walking distance of the many outlet stores and restaurants located in the village of Freeport, Maine. We offer all of our guests a homelike experience with personalized attention and approachability. Wake up each morning and be greeted by a hearty and homemade breakfast to start your day.
Purchased in late 2014, this inn represents a lifelong dream of mine. I had been a business manager of a couple of very busy veterinary specialists offices for many years and because I always traveled with my own dogs on vacation, it was important to me to keep the B&B dog friendly. While we do not alway have guests with dogs, we do enjoy having them when they are here.
Maine it the perfect place for me to enjoy one of my passions, photography. You might find me walking my two shelties though town or through our neighborhood or sitting along the coast or in one of the local parks with a good book. There are so many things to do living in Freeport! We would love to share the experience with you! Our main goal is to make you feel comfortable and at home. This B&B is small and quaint with a very "homey" feel.

Candlebay Inn has a long history in the Freeport area. Built about 1848, this beautifully restored shipbuilder's home was constructed by Henry A. Bailey, Hezekiah B. Means, Philip A. Briggs, and John A. Briggs. It is a trypical New England-style house, with the main house connected to the barn by a shed; however, it is not a "farm" house. The barn was constructed mainly to store merchandise until it was sold. John Alphonzo Briggs, one of the builders of the inn was a descendant of Richard Warren and Thomas Rogers who came to New England via the Mayflower in 1620. Briggs was a master carpenter and shipbuilder for many of the ships that launched from the South Freeport shipyard and constructed the largest vessel to ever launch from any shipyard along the Harraseeket River. The John A. Briggs was a massive vessel having three decks and three masts, and had a gathering of about 7,000 people to watch the launch, including the governor of Maine and his assistant, James Garfield.
The house was converted to a B&B in 1994 and while being beautifully restored, the old New England charm remains.
