Hillside Farm, built in 1821, is a farm setting, giving the appearance of a working farm, in Lancaster County, PA. Working dairy farms, many owned by Amish, surround us, as well as a horse farm. Our Romantic Get-a-way Cottages are self contained, fully equipped living units, situated well off the road behind our barn. Each offers a king bed, gas fireplace, wet bar, entertainment center, fridge, microwave, jet tub, shower for two, private deck & dedicated parking. Guests may choose to partake of a large country breakfast tucked into a picnic basket for their enjoyment each morning or sleep in & wake when the spirit moves them. The Chicken Coop was named such because its footprint was indeed, a chicken coop when the farm was a working farm & still has some features of that coop. The Stables foundation was a sheep shed but was named "The Stable" instead, because on a good morning you may look out the floor to ceiling windows & see horses grazing & frolicking in the pasture directly behind the cottage. A quiet, serene setting is what Hillside Farm offers but only miles away are highways leading to Lancaster, Hershey, Gettysburg, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Come & listen to the Quiet!!
Ann & Gary Lintner & family are Lancaster County natives. We mention this because a survey done at a local B&B association some years ago revealed that less than 20% of B&B owners were native Lancastrians. We have extensive knowledge of the county and surrounding areas. The Amish are neighbors and friends so we are able to speak informatively about their lifestyle. Our mission is to provide a relaxing venue where guests may sequester themselves away for an entire stay if desired. If conversation is enjoyed we can offer that as well. Our breakfasts can be enjoyed in our Dining Room & have been known to last for hours. We have hosted guests from most every country of the world and in truth, it has allowed us to experience other cultures without leaving our dining room. Most of our cottage guests enjoy the chance to reconnect, taking advantage of a world removed from their everyday busy lives.
While there are many reasons to visit the area, the single most stated purpose for visiting Lancaster County is to learn about the Amish way of life. We are situated on the western, more quiet side of the county, but still only a 20 minute drive to any of the major Lancaster County attractions. There are large Outlet Shopping Malls, Old time Farmers Markets, Family operated roadside stands selling homemade baked goods & jams, vegetables & even flowers, all within the county. We are close to Adamstown, The Antique Capitol of the World, Live stage productions, Rainbow Dinner Theater, Dutch Apple Dinner Theater, Fulton Theater and the most well known, Sight and Sound offering Broadway quality religious themed productions. The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania & Strasburg Railroad are located in the quaint town of Strasburg, a mere 20 minute drive.
For the history lover, Lancaster, Gettysburg & Harrisburg, are at most an hour from Hillside Farm. Many quality restaurants & hometown pubs are close by as well as many chain restaurants. Lancaster County truly has something for everyone. Oh! and Hershey, PA, the Sweetest Place on Earth is only a 25 minute drive. Come visit us at Hillside!
