Fraser Alexander, from Scotland and Julia Seal, from Zambia, met on a sea kayaking trip around Cape Point – and yes, we did see a shark that day!
We married in 2016 and built our new house, called SelkieHame (home of selkies*) in the heart of Noordhoek. Selkie Loft is a modern studio space reflecting the tranquility, beauty and happiness we enjoy here in Noordhoek.
*Selkies are mythical Scottish creatures that are seals in the water and take human form on land – you can read more about them below.
Some of our favourite things: kayaking with seals, penguins and whales around the Cape Peninsula - hiking in the mountains around Noordhoek - walking from Noordhoek to Kommetjie for breakfast - early morning walks on Noordhoek Common with cappuccinos at The Village Roast - drinking wine and watching the sun sink into the Atlantic Ocean - pizzas at The Red Herring - watching sunbirds and white eyes feeding in the proteas in the garden - lazy dog walking on the beach by kite - yoga in the sand - fish and chips lunches in Simonstown - coffee and Florentines at Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay - running along Chapman's Peak Drive...
mountains | beach | walks & hikes | horses | dogs | home roasted coffee | good food & wine | local artists | live music.
Noordhoek nestles below Chapman’s Peak at the south end of scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive on the west coast of the Cape Peninsula. It's a charming rural suburb best known for long beach walks, horse rides, spectacular sunsets, dark night skies, a thriving artist community, great coffee & food.
It's an IDEAL BASE TO STAY & WORK REMOTELY - a number of guests have used it for that already.
TO EAT OUT / DELIVER IN: we have a good variety of cafes, restaurants & bars nearby - 3 within 5 mins walk & several within 10 mins drive.
TO SELF CATER: we have extensive shopping facilities & fuel within 15 minutes drive.
Only 35km from Cape Town city centre, it can be reached by the scenic Atlantic coast road via Chapman’s Peak or by the mountain road over Ou Kaapse Weg through the Silvermine Nature Reserve.
The best of Noordhoek is within walking distance – our 8km pristine white beach, the Noordhoek Common, our local Red Herring Centre & Noordhoek Farm Village for great food & drink.
The picturesque villages of Kalk Bay, Simonstown and Kommetje are a short drive away.
