Staying in the Cricket House you have a view of the sheep grazing from the front verandah, and mountain views front and back, yet you are able to park your car and walk nearly everywhere in town. There is a display cabinet with "treasures" for sale, books of local content to browse, art by Western Cape artists in the house, and an outside shower to cool off under in the heat of summer, in a private courtyard garden which is an easy place to relax and read, or play old fashioned card games, chess or dominoes.
I love Montagu - the place, the people, the surrounding mountains and countryside. I have 3 grown- children, 2 Poodles, and my husband has a Jack Russel, Cricket, - after whom the "Cricket House" is named. I am a Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Trainer, a Beekeeper and a Bookworm ( one-time librarian). I share my husband's passion for Vintage Motorbikes and interesting old things, mechanical or otherwise, South African Art, Slow Food principles of eating, and of course, Beautiful Montagu. He is the artist, I take photographs instead. I enjoy meeting people and learning about other places, and love showing them how beautiful Montagu is!
We are surrounded by mountains and vineyards, and people come to us to just relax. We are on the Historical Walk Route, roughly mid-way between the two museums, and in walking distance of a number and variety of restaurants, with several award winning chefs to choose from. Also in walking distance are three art galleries and several shops showcasing local produce and crafts. There are wine farms, cycling trails, hiking trails, rock climbing spots, and everywhere there is amazing scenery to photograph, from the geology to the indigenous flowers.
