Norem, Esteban and Valeria made us feel at home right away and went out of their way to accommodate us. Breakfast and dinner (with the hummingbirds around) were delicious, prepared to the point and with several dishes to choose from. The cabins are all new, very well designed and furnished, the bathroom with steady and immediate hot and cold water supply. A garden with a small trail are in the making and will make spending time in the crisp and clean mountain air even more worthwhile. We can highly recommend Curuba Lodge which became our favorite place in Costa Rica! Tip: Esteban can connect you with a few guides to see the rare and iconic Quetzal birds.

Wonderful staff, family-run hotel, we were greeted by the lovely and friendly grandmother who gave us good tips about the area and directions to a hike around the property and a hiking trail to waterfalls nearby.

Trogon Lodge is located 1.5 km from San Gerardo de Dota town centre and 9 km from Los Quetzales National Park. It features an extensive garden, a terrace and BBQ facilities.

This lodge is next to Savegre River and 1 hour’s drive from San Gerardo Waterfalls. Juan Santamaría International Airport is 2 hours’ drive away. The hotel is very special. We had our own cosy lodge. The staff is very friendly and helpful. As it can be a bit cold at night, we even had hot-water bottles. There is also a heater. In the spacious area of the Trogon Lodge, there is very much to see, for example different species of plants and animals like humming birds, lizards and even Quatzals. The lodge does also offer a shorter and a longer exciting hiking track in the cloud forest. We booked a Quetzal watching tour in the morning and really saw about 5 Quetzals.

The land and views are gorgeous! Beautiful trails, hummingbirds and other lovely birds and nature, great food, friendly and good staff support, and lovely cabins!

Boasting a garden, a shared lounge, and a terrace, Persea Inn Finca Integral Sostenible Organica Toro Careto features accommodation in Copey with free WiFi and mountain views. This lodge provides a restaurant as well as a bar. Unique place to stay in the center of Copley. Unit across the fish pond from the restaurant of the organic farm. Large size room with ample space for up to 3 adults (our party consisted of only two adults). Considering that the nights get quite cold in this area, the room kept a reasonable temperature over night, with thick blankets provided. Reasonably warm water for a good morning shower (which is a big plus, since it is not always the case in other properties in the area). Pleasant environment with nice staff members (family run place). Possibility to eat in the restaurant whereby the trout comes fresh from the fish pond.

Featuring mountain views, Cabañas San Gerardo in San Gerardo de Dota features accommodation, a garden, a terrace and a restaurant. Both WiFi and private parking are accessible at the lodge free of charge. We booked two nights here. The lodges were very sweet, cozy for two people. There was a queen sized bed and a single bed. There was hot water in the shower. The true highlight was the adjacent restaurant, Miriam’s Quetzals which belongs to the same owners. We arrived bit after 7 pm, when it closes however they offered us to stay for dinner, which we very much appreciated. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, great dishes, excellent coffee and the view was simply amazing. They feed birds and so while having breakfast you can observe Colibris, tucans etc from up close!! We highly recommend. Also they do help organize guides for quetzal spotting, if desired. The area is great for hiking, nearby is a waterfall hike and further down the valley is the savegre area for longer hikes.

Set 33 km from Cerro de la Muerte, Cedrela Eco-Lodge & Restaurante offers accommodation with a garden, a terrace and room service for your convenience. Both WiFi and private parking are available at the lodge free of charge. The meals were outstanding, particularly since we are vegetarians and used to getting whatever is available. We were blown away by the elegance, taste, and presentation of the food. Lots of small touches that made everything about our trip special. Also, the hikes on property were absolutely amazing! I've done a lot of hiking in Costa Rica and I've never seen any places that seemed as magical as this one, even with other properties we've visited in the Dota area.

A children's playground is available on site and hiking can be enjoyed within close proximity of Cabinas El Quetzal. Large ptivate cabine close to nature with large balcony facing the mountain. We saw green toucanets from the balcony while having breakfast! Comfortable bed with lots of blankets. Hot water available. Large parking area. No kitchen but tea and coffee machine in the cabine. Don't be too late for check-in as road to get there is a steep and it is not easy to drive at night.
