The staff was friendly, and I had an enjoyable experience at the onsen. The bed was extremely comfortable, allowing for a great night's sleep. My skin felt wonderful after using the onsen. Located in the centre of Kurokawa hot-spring area, it offers Japanese accommodations and free WiFi at the lobby. Free shuttle is available to/from Ogunimachi Yu Station and bus stop Kurokawa. We spent 3 nights at the Sotetsu Fresa Inn Nihonbashi Kayabacho hotel after arriving in Japan (There is another Fresa Inn in the area, so make sure this is where you have your reservation). It is a relatively modern, functional hotel sometimes referred to as a business hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very small as is typical in Tokyo but very clean and functional. The hotel is convenient to Tokyo station (20 minutes walking as a reference). After arriving on the Narita Express or by others means to Tokyo station, follow signs to the Tozai line (sky blue) subway. The easiest way to know which direction to go is to look at the numbers representing the stops. The Tokyo station stop at Otemachi is T-9 and you want to go to T-7 Kayabacho. Leave the Kayabacho subway station via Exit 7 and the hotel is just around the corner. From Kayabaco or the nearby Nihonbashi station, you can get all around Tokyo on the highly efficient subway system. Use a Suica, Welcome Suica or Pasmo card to enter and exit subways and avoid the hassle of figuring out which ticket to buy or how much they coat. Just tap and go. Enjoy. Kokura,Onsen EXPERIENCE JAPAN LIKE THE JAPANESE We decided to spend a couple of days in central Kyushu to enjoy a traditional Japanese ryokan experience. Boy, was that a great call! I88We stayed at the Yama no Yado Shinmeikan in the Kokura Onsen area, which is an hour north of Aso city by bus. The ryokan is 130 years old but is clean and well-maintained. It features a total of 5 unique onsens, including one carved into a cave. The ambiance is terrific and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The ryokan is located along a flowing river and the sound of running water adds to the relaxing quality of the stay. (The Fuji room is best). Great ryokan with indoor and outdoor onsen and comfortable rooms. We had the breakfast which was very nice, no problem in having it vegetarian too. English is a bit of a problem but manageable.
This is not your typical ryokan but a modern one where nobody will wake you up at 7am for breakfast. Here, you can (almost) sleep as you please. 9 bungalows for 9 rooms. Each room has its own private onsen, one indoor and the other outdoor, in addition to the bigger "public" one. Staff is great. Dinner is superb, and so is breakfast. It's far, a bit remote but you must go for a peaceful and very charming moment.
Multiple public onsen (main, cave, river, indoor), multiple private onsen available, garden around the ryokan
It was wonderful that they had an outdoor onsen pool by the riverside where you can see and listen to the man-made waterfall. The number of private family onsens were also pretty good, less waiting time for a private onsen bath.
Service was excellent, staff were very friendly and welcoming. Both dinner and breakfast were exceptionally delicious, wide variety of dishes and we were very full after both meals. Private onsen inside the room was spacious and clean. the room itself was generously large too. Out of all the ryokans I have stayed in Japan, this room was one of the largest. The ryokan is located just a 5 min walk to the main area where you can see the lanterns illuminate at night. Highly recommended!
Great Ryokan! Way beyond my expectation - 3 private onsen rooms you can use without reservation and 2 public onsen. - Rooms are spacious, new, and comfortable. There is Kotatsu table in the room, very warm and cozy! - There are lovely facilities you can use and experience such as star observatory, library, and the vintage fireplace room that has free sake serving! - Staffs are very polite and helpful.
The cave onsen was a unique experience. They have private indoor n outdoor hot springs for booking. The English speaking female non-japanese staff was very friendly and pleasant. The ryokan also sent us to the bus stop when they learnt we are taking the bus to Hakata. Dinner was served around a fire place, giving a warm, fuzzy feel.
A very well maintained, heartwarming traditional Japanese ryokan! Welcomed by friendly lady owner and room was very big for two people. Dinner and breakfast were superb, many homemade pickles and fresh vegetables. Hot spring was small but hot enough to relieve fatigue. Enjoyed the foods and hotspring! Fully recharged after the stay.
As of early Feb 2023, the property is new. The host send us the entrance code 2 days before the check-in date and had an online video call when we arrived at the property. The beds are comfy. The floor heating is nice. The kitchen came with all necessary equipments. The indoor onsen and sauna is great for the get away. (Luckily, the host was able to fix the hot spring water pump before we arrived)
