This is one of our favorites. The space we stayed at was huge. It was a two-story stand alone building. The seats looked out onto the courtyard with a pond and a lot of trees, which was very peaceful. I'm usually not the type to stay in my hotel/ryokan all day, but this place tempted me to do so due to the serenity of the courtyard. There were two private onsen that were easy to access due to the small number of guests that stay here. The food was fabulous. While walking around one morning I found a hiking trail that led up to castle ruins. The next morning I hiked up to the ruins and down the other side and came out near the Moss Land.

Our room was fantastic, with a large sitting area, separate sleeping area with comfortable beds and private outdoor onsen. Staff were uniformly friendly, helpful and polite. Our meals were excellent and very filling. Each large window in our room looked out on different areas of an impeccably designed garden. We are already planning our next visit.

Located within 6 km of Masakigaoka Park and 6.1 km of Hamayama Park, Dormy Inn Izumo offers rooms in Izumo. This 3-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage space. The accommodation provides a sauna, hot spring bath, restaurant and free WiFi throughout the property. I visited several places in Shimane and Tottori Prefectures and the Dormi Inn is perfectly located for this purpose. The hotel is located directly at the train station exit, there are lots of restaurants in the vicinity. The room was quite spacious because I had a double room for single use. The thermal spa on the top floor is superb, you can relax outside in 42°C hotspring water. You can program the TV to let you fall asleep listening to three different kinds of relaxation music, very nice.

The property is set 1.4 km from Tsuwano Joushi, 37 km from Ikoji Sesshu Garden and 47 km from Yasaka Shrine. Featuring free WiFi throughout the property, the non-smoking hotel has a hot spring bath. Fantastic hotel in a lovely little town. Both the hotel, and Tsuwano itself, exceeded all expectations. I travel around slightly-off-the-beaten-track spots like this in Japan a lot and try to find charming little ryokans or minshukus that are value for money. Don't think I've ever found a better one than this. From the entrance it is clear you're entering a place that's punching above its weight. It looks much nicer than you'd expect for the price. Turned up early and the friendly staff were more than happy to let me check in early and make use of the facilities which include a very nice little rooftop bath (rotenburo) and - remarkably - free drinks, including whiskey and shochu, in the little area on the ground floor from 5pm. The hotel place was spotless (it looks very new) and the Japanese-style breakfast was very nice indeed. I'l definitely visit Tsuwano again one day, and I'll definitely stay here.

The staff are lovely and welcoming, and the whole hotel feels clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The onsen is fantastic, relaxing, well-maintained, and especially impressive because they allow tattoos, which is rare and very forward-thinking in Japan. The rooms are spotless and comfortable, with great amenities and everything you need for a relaxing stay. The location is convenient and makes it easy to explore Masuda. Overall, a perfect mix of style, comfort, and hospitality. Highly recommended.

The nearest airport is Yonago Airport, 22 km from the property. Great little onsen ryokan. Very nice lounge and they provide yukatas. Staff was exceptional, there was an elderly man who was manning the counter at night and he does samisen and Japanese folk performances every now and then. Was blessed to have witnessed a short performance by him. Would definitely recommend. Hots springs were excellent. Not too hot and perfect to soak in after a long day. Stayed in the super single room which was basically just a bed and some space. Was perfect as I didn't carry much luggage, but for those who have large trolley bags this is not the room for you.
