Easy access to the free ferry from Vaxholm and the rest of the island. Good walking and cycling in the area and several forts to visit. Pizza restaurant nearby. There was only one other room occupied when we stayed so sharing the bathrooms was not a problem. Good showers. Attractive communal area. Excellent breakfast. Simple, comfortable, semi-communal living with privacy when you want it. Very easy booking and check in. One hour ferry ride from central Stockholm. An interesting and peaceful island.

We wanted a break from hard travel and are so glad we chose Fredriksborg. The rooms are very simple with a terrific outlook. The location is remarkable, on a hill above the deep water channel going in and out of Stockholm. The first time we saw a huge ship gliding by above eye level was a happy surprise. The dinner served at their restaurant was superb. But the best of all is the staff. They take great pride in the history of the location and its role in the defense of Stockholm in centuries past. Pontus (spelling ?) went out of his way to show us the property as well as to drive us to the ferry for the return to Stockholm. We were very appreciative.

    The location is amazing overlooking the water. It is peaceful and there is loads of parking. Vaxholm is about 15 minutes by car. There is great public transport in the area. Breakfast buffet, self serve had a wonderful selection. Staff also offered to cook. Reception had 24/7 good quality coffee, tea, water. The staff are welcoming and go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable.

    Solo traveler
