The location was peaceful and the accommodation very comfortable. We enjoyed walking through the woods in the evening to a lovely restaurant overlooking the lake. It was an easy drive into Maastrict and also the pretty village of Oud Rekem - both worth a visit. We did not go into Lanaken itself as our time there was too short.Guest review byAnonymous - 4.0
We have stayed before and it was good.
We have stayed before and it was good. This time, however, we were not informed that the restaurant was closed. It's in a remote place so having to get back in the car after a long journey didn't suit us. The windmill was covered with scaffolding - again, not informed that workmen were around. Only one other guest, and hosts were not present until we waited 20/30 minutes for them to come to let us in, and the woman came back for breakfast (which had to be chosen on arrival by way of a tick-sheet). As I said, it's in a remote place so nowhere to walk to; around 20 mins drive to town or shopping outlet. Maasmechelen is an excellent place to stay to visit the area where Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany meet. Recommend traveling by car. Maasmechelen is close to roads going to Maastricht, Aachen and Antwerp. Restaurants, supermarkets and the Maasmechelen Village Mall are nearby. On Sunday we visited a tour organised by the tourist information around the Lommel Sahara with local food and drinks.
