- From US$270.75 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,471 reviewsArenal Observatory Lodge was highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Location and facilities are simply amazing. We didn’t expect to lay on our beds and watch volcano and toucans perched on the trees right by our windows! Staff is wonderful. Luis was our driver who picked us up in San Jose and told us a lot about area, tours and facilities during our ride. He was attentive and caring. He also delivered sunglasses we forgot in the shop in La Fortuna, was very kind of him. Carlos from reception helped us to receive our luggage which was delayed by airline. He informed us when luggage finally arrived. Trails are in very good conditions and have protection from rain every km or so. Trails were easy or moderate, so even my mum who is 64 coped with them and truly enjoyed it. Food in the restaurant is very tasty and well presented. Thanks to everyone in the Lodge who made our stay unforgettable!Guest review byYaroslavUkraine
- From US$259.90 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 369 reviewsI loved the fact that’s it’s a resort but it’s in the nature and not crowded, like a boutique resort. Wonderful room, amazing view, nice environment and atmosphere. Good breakfast with a view. You can hike to waterfalls from the hotel, inside the resort ! And there is a little farm with animals, my child loved it. Not far away from the airport so that’s very convenient when we arrive/depart from San Jose and there are plenty of things to do around, including visiting the volcan Poas.Guest review byCeciliaFrance
- From US$128.82 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 757 reviewsTrully an amazing service from the lady at the reception office, helpful and comprehensive. We tried the chalet and the glamping and both were very cool and different experiences. The food at the restaurant was so good, honestly we were impressed by the quality of the food proposed. The service was also excellent from the staff at the restaurant. They have a very nice site, not far from Poas volcano and the area is pretty nice to visit too. 100% recommended.Guest review byDanielCosta Rica
- From US$129.95 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,400 reviewsThe location is not in town but is very pretty and also the grounds are lovely. The staff are great. The hotel is also close to many activities such as the hanging gardens, Mount Arenal, and ATV trips for example. There is the option of either rooms more like in a hotel or self contained cabins. The option of two pools is great too. If one is busy there is always the other. I would recommend the rooms top floor furthest away but best views and lovely big rooms.Guest review bySibyllaCanada

Takes from 20 to 40 minutes to get to min attractions but it’s definitely worth it as La Fortuna is noisy and highly tourists oriented. Really tranquil place. Restaurant served high starred food, it was delicious.Guest review byJolantaPoland

The centre is not over touristified.
The centre is not over touristified. A few good supermarkets. A good variety of food options, with some good Sodas. A lot of accommodation to choose from. Nice Central Park. Many activities to choose from, and easy to get transport to them if you don’t have a car. The Mundo 12 zip lines can’t be missed.Guest review bysharronNew Zealand - 6.0
I was there one night because it was close to the airport.
I was there one night because it was close to the airport. I would not hang out there for a significant length of time. Not a good place to be after dark. Also came across a suitcase on a sidewalk. It had obviously been stolen and rummaged through.Guest review byThomasUnited States - 4.0
Proximity to Airport!
Proximity to Airport! This facility standards were substandard. My wife hurt her foot on a dangerous doorstop, sewer gas was overwhelming, no hot water, air conditioner was not hooked up, pumping hot air back into the room. The stairs right from ground level were dangerous. English was non existent with staff. They were courteous and helpful. There were no privacy coverings on the windows. Open hole in Bathroom ceiling.Guest review byKevinCanada - 10.0

We stayed at the Altura Hotel. It was amazing beyond words! Can not say enough about this place. We stayed in a 'dome/yurt' and it was beautiful, well appointed and excellent in every sense of the word. Breakfast was included and it was such a treat!Guest review byDonnaUnited States - 8.0
Bijagua is a small Costa Rican town.
Bijagua is a small Costa Rican town. It’s not a tourist town. You are very submerged in the culture. Learn some Spanish. Everyone was kind. We ate at several restaurants. We shopped at the grocery. We seemed to be the only tourists. It seemed very safe. The food was EXCELLENT! We drank the water. Read up on tipping. Stray dogs are everywhere. Do NOT pet them at the restaurants. We did the Sky Bridge Tour in Bijagua (a little hard to find - it’s at a resort) and the Tree Top Chocolate Tour. Both we excellent. We hiked to the Rio Celeste waterfall. That is not an easy hike. It’s through the jungle. Wear boots! Snakes are a VERY REAL. We also did tubing down the river. SO FUN!!!Guest review byJenniferUnited States - 10.0

When making your reservation, ask for the biggest cottage possible. Its all uphill and sometimes rainy and foggy when making your way here, and stay on the road ALL THE WAY UP TO WHERE IT ENDS, at the reception, restaurant lodge. This restaurant was a total surprise. The food and service was exceptional. I vote for Jean Carlo as best hotel/restaurant host in the whole country.Guest review byminorCosta Rica - 10.0
Grecia is a wonderful little town.
Grecia is a wonderful little town. I was here to find a new home so I was looking throughout the area and visited Atenas and Naranjo as well. We decided on a place near Naranjo. In Grecia I ate at several local Sodas which were fantastic and a more upscale restaurant called Bariles which was fantastic. POPs ice cream shop is also highly recommended. In Atenas I ate at a really good Italian restaurant called Firenze. The Pasta Puttanesca was cooked to perfection. When driving watch for motorcycles.Guest review byMoore - 6.0

This is a busy typical CR centre with little to offer in the way of browsing or touristy type things. Really good handmade souvenirs in store opposite city park. The museum is open Tues to Sat. We missed it, so I can't comment on that. The weather was cold, foggy and at times windy (this was mid Jan). That's all I can think of!Guest review byAdrian - 10.0

Our trip was mostly rejuvenation, health and to access the volcano and hot springs. We went to Arenal park and hiked the trail to the Volcano. We saw a Capibara but most other wildlife is best viewed in the early morning. There were a lot of orchids in bloom along the trails. Going to EcoTermales Hotspring was the highlight. It's a gorgeous naturally constructed spa with layered pools, waterfalls all built with stacked granite rockery, bridges and pathways connect the pools, and there's plenty of seating, an open bar that serves the best mixed drinks. The restaurant served fresh healthy assortment of seafood and meats with veggie dishes with dessert at Lunch. The water was fed from the natural hotspring, which was circulated , refreshed constantly with fresh volcanic water. Attention to the holistic elements of nature were throughout. Staff and Service were top notch.Guest review bySuZImageZCanada - 10.0

We enjoyed the area and while we did a lot including driving to Monteverde for zipline tour, we chose one day of pampering rather than adventure so did not hike around Arenal or paddle board on Arenal. We did white water rafting between Puerto Viejo and Fortuna. We did waterfall repelling near Fortuna (amazing). The people are friendly and the area is lovely. We enjoyed a night time nature tour with our hotel (Noah's Landing) and Nayara Gardens was amazing. We saw plenty of sloths but so much more! We went to the Mistico hanging bridges on a rainy day which worked well-it did not matter. We also visited the Fortuna Waterfall (500 steps down-then 500 steps up but worth it!) If you like adventure- there is plenty. If you want to relax-it is a beautiful place to do so.Guest review byTamiUnited States
