I have never been to a hotel before where the owner does a quick haircut and mends your bag on your first day. Thank you for looking after my husband when he felt frail. I love the room, the chairs. The forest location. That there was no artificial lighting in front of our room late at night ...the dark was a joy and seeing the sunrise through the trees The home cooking, the coffee the little seawater pool, the wild beach. The caring environment, lovely staff. The howler, the macaws , the things that went bump on our roof! Its a little different. The Golfe Dulce is away from the tourist trail and is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen

We came to Costa Rica to hike and watch birds. This property was perfect because it has over 40km of trails through gorgeous forest with many old trees. The trails are well maintained, and some are challenging, which we enjoyed. 3 days was not enough to explore all the trails. Philip and his wife are wonderful; one of the kindest hosts we have ever experienced. The food was plentiful and delicious. Philip knows a lot about the local natural history and was generous with his time. They drove us to the lodge from the airport and to our next destination which was convenient for us. We rented the small cabin on top of the hill and the view from the cabin was spectacular. If you are looking for nature, kind hosts, plenty of hiking trails and wildlife this is for you. It is not luxurious, and the only entertainment is nature. I can’t wait to return!

Amazing 4-night stay at Lapa Rios, definitely one of the best hotels I've ever been to. The beautiful room, the view on the Pacifc ocean, the great food, the kindness and professionnalism of the staff, all the animals you can spot so close to you (monkeys, macau, toucans, frogs, etc.). The park of the hotel is a good before-taste of the almost nearby Corcovado national park not to be missed, with great guides

We loved how clean and fresh it smelled. This hotel is fantastic. We messaged late night (on Christmas) after checking in to a place nearby that we weren’t satisfied with. They said the security guard will be made aware and warmly welcomed us to come stay. It’s noisy with the road outside but that doesn’t bother us. The place is so clean, air con works beautiful (and it is so humid in December here) We asked in the morning if we could stay another night and they managed to find us a room (equally beautiful) When we came back the new room has a little merry Christmas message and chocolates. They really go the extra mile here and everything smells AMAZING and fresh. Thank you.

We arrived early and because there was a room available we were able to check in early. John was very helpful, giving us a map and telling us all the great things to do in the area. We took the kayaks (which were free) around the bay, where we saw a dolphin. We also saw lots of scarlet macaws and hummingbirds in the nearby trees and watched a turtle bob up occasionally from the deck. The place also has bikes to use. It's really close to the town so everything is walkable. There's free coffee in the room. All the staff were lovely.

Marcella’s place is really nice and perfect to get away from all the touristic spots. The water of Golfo Dulce is only 4 meters from the property and you’ll find a lot of wild animals around like parrots, if you’ll lucky sloths and dolphins and more as well. The rooms are very clean with private bathroom and big windows + aircon and one of the most comfortable beds we had during our stay in Costa Rica! Also Marcella is a really nice host open for a little chat here and then.

We liked absolutely everything at the Danta Corcovado lodge, it was actually our best accommodation so far in Costa Rica. The service is great, the food is amazing at both breakfast and dinner, the room is something special , the territory of the lodge is quite large, has many trails around the lodge, the location is close to the beach. Breakfast had 5 or 6 different choices to choose from. The design is very modern, a lot of creativity. Large room. No need for AC, the room doesn't have windows but has mosqueto nets. There is a possibility to take tours from that place but we didn't so can't comment. We stayed here on the way back from the Corcovado overnight Serena tour. If I could rate it higher than 10 I would gladly do it! Next time we will plan to stay in this place for longer.

It’s like leaving a moment out of this world in a complete paradise ! We had such a great time, location is incredible between the tropical jungle and the ocean, the tents are perfect and have everything we need and the view on the beach. The food was so good, the best we had in Costa Rica, the prices feel justified compared to the rest of the country. The staff is awesome, really nice and helped have the best experience there. The hotel offers night walks where we got to see turtles nesting, hikes in the Corcovado with a great guide who is willing to share his experience of nature and naturals, massages also. I can only recommend !!

It was the best lodge in Costa Rica, also the best area of the country. The staff is amazingly kind. Breakfast is very good, and also the rest of the meals, which are totally homemade. It provides different types of activities in the sea and forest, and is also a peaceful place for yoga, has a an art ateliê, etc. It is the perfect combination of forest and beach.

Puerto Jiménez served as a rest-over before going to, and when coming from a trip to Corcovado Nat'l Park. We were able to take and ride bikes from the hotel to restaurants and to look around (the walkway to the pier was torn up so we had to go the long way around and the bikes came in super handy). The staff was friendly and could answer all our questions.

Amazonia's Ecolodge is a true Amazon Rainforest Experience.

Amazonia's Ecolodge is a true Amazon Rainforest Experience. Highly recommend a 4WD to get here especially if it is raining. It is a 20 minute drive from Puerto Jimenez and the last section (about half a mile) can be challenging the first time around. The place is quite remote and a fun place to stay if you want to enjoy the rainforest. The cabin we stayed in was located in the rainforest on the edge of the Corcovoda NP. There is a kitchen to cook simple meals. The cabin had a refrigerator as well. You can make your own drip coffee. Meals are offered by the caretaker's family in another house downhill on the property. There is no Wifi available in the cabin but is available at the caretaker's house. Recommend having home cooked meals at the caretaker's place. Good food and friendly folks but none of them speak English. We were able to get by with very little Spanish. A guide is available on request. Guide speaks English and will come to the Ecolodge to arrange and take you on tours. We went on several tours with the local guide and were happy with the service. Saw a lot of frogs on the night walk close to the property. Overall a pleasant and out of the normal experience. If you love to stay and experience the rainforest this is the place.

A quiet, under-developed tropical destination, immersed in the rainforest. There is no town per se, just properties immersed in green. Wonderful beaches, no one around for miles. The nearest bar / restaurant is 45 min away by car on a bad road. The nearest store is in Puerto Jimenez. Patchy cell phone reception. Spectacular nature, all around: birds, butterflies, monkeys.

Puerto Jiménez is a busy little town. It is very laid back and has a slight 'Wild West' feel about it. The people we met were super friendly and helpful. There's a small airport for light aircraft and a pier where you catch public boats to various destinations. We will go back there again soon!

A gorgeous community that has retained a local Tico feel; expats and tourists are definitely in the minority. I never felt unsafe even walking alone at night. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to walk all the extensive jungle trails in Bolita and the Corcovado National Park. But, those I did walk to led me to magical waterfalls, swimming holes and amazing views. The wildlife is plentiful. I saw 3 of the 4 monkeys that live in Costa Rica and woke in the morning to the sounds of the 4th, the howlers calling in the distance. Toucans, hummingbirds and macaws are everywhere. Not to mention the incredible number of other slightly less showy birds, amphibians, reptiles and insects. Dos Brazos was an incredible find and I will definitely be back.

We had the luxury of spending nearly an entire month on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica - the first two weeks near Drake Bay and the last two weeks in Puerto Jimenez. If you have to choose one over the other, I would go with Puerto Jimenez, which has several advantages: a full grocery store if you're doing your own cooking, nicer beaches with finer sand as opposed to broken shells and sharp stones and, an airport within walking distance to the town. Both towns are safe and tourist-friendly and offer a wide variety of excursions including access to Corcavado National Park but Puerto Jimenez, with its paved streets and better restaurants is my choice.
