FAQs about hotels in Bavaria
Romantic Region of Castles and Christmas Markets
Home to some of the world’s oldest and finest Christmas markets, Bavaria is the German region touching Lake Constance and the Austrian and Czech borders. Although evoking images of beer, lederhosen and fairytale castles, it’s much, much more than that.
Famous for Oktoberfest, its capital Munich has impressive architecture lining squares and parks, and several luxury Bavaria hotels on Booking.com. To the north, Nuremberg is a city of 2 halves: a picture-postcard old town and grandiose Nazi rally grounds housing a sensitive museum.
With a stately palace and gardens, Erlangen is on the Regnitz River which continues to beautiful Bamberg where one of the half-timbered buildings hovers above the flowing river. Bayreuth is well-known for opera performances of Wagner, a former resident, while Regensburg on the Danube River has a beautiful, medieval centre.
Unsurprisingly, most romantic Bavaria hotels are on the Romantic Road between Würzburg, with its hilltop castle, and Füssen in the foothills of the Alps. Neighbouring Hohenschwangau has 2 royal castles, one of which – Neuschwanstein – inspired the Disney castle. Oberammergau has frescoed façades and hosts a 10-yearly Passion Play, and nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a top German ski resort, with Tyrolean-style houses overlooked by Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.
Back on the Romantic Road, Augsburg has colourful buildings, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber is like stepping back in time.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 437 reviewsUpon checking in, we were provided with a Berchtesgaden card each, which provided us with free transport in the area and discounts at multiple attractions, we were also provided a map and booklet showcasing the attractions accessible with the card. Our room was perfect, plenty of space, and a balcony with seating area. The room was cleaned on each of the four days we stayed and the cleaning staff were very friendly when we bumped into them in the corridors. Breakfast was fantastic, with a full continental range on offer, some hot cooked items, and a hot drinks machine. As for location, it couldn't be any better situated unless it was on the lake itself, it's less than a minute walk to the ferry terminal, very close to lots of paths for any walkers, and 5 minutes walk from the bus station if you want to use your Berchtesgaden card to tour the local area. I would also highly recommend eating in the hotel restaurant in the evening at least once. The venison goulash had so much flavour, and is my favourite meal of our 2 week tour of Germany and Austria, and the boiled beef was great too!Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom

From the cleaning staff up to the manager. The gym and spa area is very clean and well equipped incl a great view to the mountains. As, I am pregnant, I was amazed how well the kitchen was prepared for that. I did not have to worry about eating anything which could harm my baby.Guest review byKatjaGermany

Munich has an excellent public transport system.
Munich has an excellent public transport system. My advice to travellers is to research the online information to see how you can embrace that transport as part of your Munich experience. There are plenty of historical buildings, parks, markets, commercial tours and self guided tours to enjoy. Lots of eateries - especially in the Undergound corridors but you can also find local food stores for shopping that helps the budget. Munich has problems, like all cities, and it was reassuring to see the police response to emergency situations and also their quiet presence in crowd situations. We felt safe at all times. We really enjoyed Munich and recommend a visit!Guest review byKellesAustralia - 8.0
Center of Nuremberg was almost leveled in WW2.
Center of Nuremberg was almost leveled in WW2. The postwar reconstruction of buildings mostly created replacement buildings in a bland style, though the street layout remained. The churches were very well restored. I liked nearby Bamberg better on a day trip from Nuremberg. (45 minutes by Regional Bahn train.)Guest review byRichardUnited States - 8.0

Lovely city to have a stop during my drive to a business meeting. City has nice architecture and the Donau river gives the extra touch. Enough possibilities to have a nice lunch and diner. Can recommend Burgerheart when you want some nice American experience. Loved the peer-melon limonade. Went now two year in a row to Regensburg and can't wait for the next one.Guest review byBoecky89Belgium - 10.0

A very interesting historical city, much of which has been lovingly restored after devastating air raid damage in WW2. The Residence I(and its gardens) are well worth visiting, being a smaller scale version of the palaces at Versailles and Charlottenburg. Don't miss the Hofkirche while there. The Marienberg Fortress on the hill overlooking the town offers fantastic views, but is currently being extensively refurbished. It is still worth visiting though. And if you like visiting churches, you will not be disappointed here. Fantastic cuisine and wine available here. we can heartily recommend Aifach Resins and zum Stachel, the former for more contemporary cuisine and the latter for more traditional fare in traditional and historic surroundings.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The history available through the museums, historic buildings, and art galleries is extraordinary. The confectionary shops add a wonderful addition to a cup of coffee. Beers from 3X different breweries made this a good tasting experience.Guest review byJamesUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The first thing I noticed upon arriving in Ingolstadt is the cleanliness of the area from the moment I stepped off the train. I had travelled from Cologne through Berlin, Dresden and Nurnberg, stopping a view nights in each place, and Ingolstadt was the best ‘first impression’ of a city I experienced. This continued throughout the 3 days I spent there. The train station is located in a leafy area next to a beautiful park and surrounded by 3 churches. The city has numerous walkways and cycle routes alongside the river and through beautiful gardens. The city is extremely peaceful and had beautiful architecture and many historic buildings and sights. You will find good coffee shops and some of the best traditional food dishes in Germany. I LOVED this place and can’t wait to return.Guest review byRitaIreland - 8.0

This is a very touristy place, but we enjoyed our stay. Get out early in the morning to have your photos taken in the best spots without lots of people from the bus tours in the background. Walking around the walls was very enjoyable. Lots of small interesting shops if that's your thing.Guest review byMatthewAustralia - 10.0
Physically - GaPa is super easy to walk around.
Physically - GaPa is super easy to walk around. Mainly the walking is on flat, well maintained sidewalks. Also, If you like hiking up mountains there are plenty of trails to spend days exploring (weeks maybe?) We especially loved the mountain top restaurants. Spiritually - The Catholic Church's here (Like all over Europe) are beautiful and steeped in history. The crowds (tourists) were respectful and maintained a quiet demeanor as they walked around the church. But, for those serious about their Catholic Faith there is plenty of time in the church without crowds to spend in prayer, silence and contemplation with Jesus. Mentally - GaPa is a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. The people are friendly. The mountains are picture perfect. This place has got to be on your Bucket-list.Guest review byPeter
