Altstadt and Deutsche Ecke, cable cart over the Rhine to...
Altstadt and Deutsche Ecke, cable cart over the Rhine to castle, Altes Brauhaus. Options to make Rhine/Mosel cruise (from 1-3 hrs). Many nice restaurants and (whine)bars. Live music in cafe Hahn, Irish pub and some other locations (check locally). Good public transport (for e.g. to go to cafe Hahn or to Oktoberfest). Pitty that renting a simple bike is not so easy (not so many options, no guided bike tours offered, renting a bike is usually an electric bike, not cheap). If you want to make a bike tour, bring bike yourself. Also usefull to use instead of local transportation. And borders of the Mosel or Rhine are nice to make a bike tour.Guest review byBearke_MNetherlands - 8.0

The town is a tourist magnet, but for those who know the Rheingau also a Mecca, neighbouring Gesienheim has the University where many Rheingau wine makers will have studied. The whole Rheingau is within reach, the steep Rüdesheim vineyards above the town are wonderful and peaceful for walking, those with less energy can take the chairlift. We tried the Spanish restaurant near the Bahnhof and Breuer's Schloss restaurant opposite (4 metres away) from the Hotel Lindenwirt where we stayed and also ate and drank. They had some nice (think craft) alco free beers.Guest review byDr. MichaelGermany - 10.0
Boppard is a small town, right on the Rhine.
Boppard is a small town, right on the Rhine. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants, ice cream shops, retail shops etc. The station is very close to the centre of town so easy to get to other fantastic places. Easy to get to by car. The town is quiet in the winter but still most places are open. The chair lift is absolutely fabulous, and the views are superb. However, last time we went up on the chair lift, we couldn't get back down because the winds became a lot stronger, BUT they will order a taxi for you and refund you the return trip BUT GET A RECEIPT from the taxi because they won't refund you without it. Most hotels will give you a Guest Card which gives you discounts on local attractions, and FREE train and bus travel within quite a bit region, so you can visit Koblenz, Rudesheim, Linz, Limburg (all very highly recommended) for no extra cost.Guest review byBarbaraUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Its a small Rhine River town with a nice selection of stores. It's quiet and an old castle you can walk or drive up to. It's a great small town to take a break within short dive to explore other Rhine towns north and south of St Goar.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 10.0
The village is beautiful. The people are friendly.
The village is beautiful. The people are friendly. The river cruise was short, but we already knew that. The whole area was a great setting for exploring both the Rhine valley and the Mosel valley. Their local food and wines are excellent.Guest review byJamesUnited States - 8.0
A great base for exploring this part of the Rhine.
A great base for exploring this part of the Rhine. Only basic impressions as this was a stop over night en route between Bavaria and the UK. Atmospheric market place, guesthouse just a few steps away and excellent bakery for breakfast made up for a largely rainy night. Would definitely be a candidate for further exploration in the area.Guest review byAshley WilliamsUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Bingen is touristy.
Bingen is touristy. This is not a place for people who are looking for solitude. The ferry takes you straight to Rüdesheim and you can explore the vineyards from there. In the city you can find restaurants, butchers, bakeries and shops. The city is safe and friendly.Guest review byChristophGermany - 10.0

Bad Ems in late September is a very quiet small town in a beautiful setting along the Lahn river. It has a lot of history in the Spa- business, quite a few impressive buildings remind of the past when crowned heads and other celebrities came here. In the direct vicinity there a plenty of hiking trails. Many interesting spots for day trips nearby: Koblenz, Drachenfels, the Rhine- and Mosel valleys with castles, the Loreley, wine tasting, the Maria Laach lake, Lava Dome in Mendig.Guest review byHenkNetherlands - 8.0

Remagen was convenient for me for an overnight st, coming by train from Edinburgh on the day, and likewise as an overnight stop on the last day of my holiday. All travel was, of course, by train. On my first visit I had to visit 'the bridge'. A very historic place.Guest review byAlex BomphrayUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The catles on the Rhein and Moselle were fascinating. Especially good is Marksburg. Koblenz is quite large so there was quite a lot of walking. The city centre still feels like a destination - no boarded-up shops!Guest review byGarethUnited Kingdom
