Almunecar is fantastic, we come here every year at least once and have been doing so for over 20yrs, the people are great, the town is so quiet and nice and we love the tapas, el petete is our favourite for tapas. The town is on the coast and beaches are plentiful and not crowded during the times we go (sept). all of the bars serve tapas with drinks and it's a lottery on what you get which adds to the magic and mystery of the town. Getting to the town from malaga means a car hire but parking is plentiful and free. we hired a car, got to the town parked and never used the car again other than getting back to the airport. a transfer bus might be a better idea if there are any. all in all, I will continue to come to Almunecar for as long as im able to; we love it!Guest review byGEORGEUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Such a great little city that feels very safe and enjoyable for travellers. We loved the local feel of Motril, unlike other places along the coast that we visited. The locals were friendly and there was a great selection of restaurants and bars as well as a nice walk to the beach with good access for pedestrians. I wouldn’t recommend bringing a car as the streets are little but a scooter or moped would be ideal. You must try Pizzeria Vespa and Zarcillo Restaurant was such a special place to go for dinner too. We also loved a little late night walk around the cactus garden which is such a cute place. Motril, you were excellent!Guest review byPaigeCzech Republic - 10.0
A beautiful part of Spain.
A beautiful part of Spain. A great beach with a wide selection of restaurants, 'Bahia' helped us to host an special anniversary meal, the Il Treno ice-cream parlour right opposite the clean beach and the marvelous tapas bar nearby are worth a visit. The maintown, set back a way from the beachfront is the castle with it's incredible views, and the hillside houses in the steep narrow winding streets are amazing but exhausting to walk around. Fortunately there are several bars to stop for a drink on the way. The town has all the shops you might need and the beautiful town of Caleta is close enough to walk to: I would love to see the procession that is proudly displayed in the photographs throughout their town. We were delighted by the smiling local Spaniards who made us welcome and helped us wherever we went. Most spoke little or no English but with just a few Spanish words we managed just fine; communication is no big problem among friends. Viva EspanaGuest review byDeanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Nice seaside town plenty of restaurants/bars either in town or on beach. Stoney beach but big and not too crowded when we went in June. Seemed a more upmarket resort than some of the other towns nearby.Guest review byJulieUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Calahonda is a peaceful location.
Calahonda is a peaceful location. Many locals and holiday homes. Typically Spanish. Although coming out of Covid times and possibly slightly out of tourist season, there were many bars and restaurants in the town that were not open. However, still enough for us to find some good food and drinks - and some incredible tapas included with drinks. Lovely beachfront. The location was perfect for us - but to be aware it is a small and not overly touristy area, best for total relaxation. Don't let the polytunnels put you off as you drive down from the main road, before heading into Calahonda town itself, as once in the town you are unable to see them.Guest review bySharonHaleSpain - 8.0
Castell de Ferro is a lovely Spanish town with all the...
Castell de Ferro is a lovely Spanish town with all the amenities you need. It is a place where you make your own entertainment and just walking around, sampling the bars can be a great experience. it is not touristy although there are quite a few Brits around; mostly they have made their homes here and integrated into Spanish life. Some of the waiters in the bars and people in the shops speak a little English but not many and not much. So make the effort to learn a few phrases and take a dictionary with you. The locals are happy to help, but even with some Spanish, I found them hard to understand. The accent is very hard and they speak fast! The town square is lovely as is the sea front. Busses go from the town square to resorts along the coast, both towards Malaga and Almeria. We found a car essential to get to the town and then to get out and about when we were there. A good base for this very Spanish part of the costa.Guest review byAnitaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Alumenecar is a perfect mix of a Spanish town and a place that also caters for holiday visitors. It is clean and well cared for. The beaches are clean and there are excellent supermarkets and a good bus serviceGuest review byMarkUnited Kingdom - 10.0
It is a very traditional , working town which we like .
It is a very traditional , working town which we like . Tapas bars every where and a tapas run is definitely something to do , you can’t go wrong . Free tapas with every drink( except coffee) . The history of the sugar cane is interesting and there are patches of old sugar cane everywhere . Beautiful gardens , including a cactus garden , right in the centre of Malaga, next to the church on the hill . The church is beautiful if it is open , sorry can’t help on opening times but I know Sunday mass is at 10 am . Nearby Salobrena is worth a visit , it has a moorish castle and a regular bus service . Almunecar is also very lovely. Skiing 2 hours away in Sierra NevadaGuest review byJulieUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We loved the choice of restaurants.
We loved the choice of restaurants. There are plenty of shops. We love Mercadona. The weather was amazing, the people very friendly and lots to do. We travelled up to the mountains where there are some lovely little villages. There is a castle with lots of interesting history. We know Andalusia very well and Salobrena definitely is at the top of our list. There are some super beaches too. We are more keen on country though. You can drive up to Velez de Benaudilla and visit the Arab gardens. There are rivers and waterfalls to be see in Guajar Alto. Its great to have a car if possible. You can then visit Almunecar with it's lovely beaches and lovely town. I am sure there are buses but we always rent a car. All in all, we love the area and are planning to live there. We have lived in Spain before and love it.Guest review byCAROLE GARCIAUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We have been coming to La Herradura for nineteen years and are never disappointed by the location, facilities and restaurants. One niggle this year - Having had a swim in the sea, we were disappointed to find the beach showers had been turned off.Guest review byAngelaUnited Kingdom
