The decor looked fresh and well looked after - something that can't be said for many similar properties. It was also very clean. A very short walk from the airport terminal and yet there was very little noise.

Another great part was the wellness area and the Sauna, probably one of the best i've ever been! They provide tons of towels and Rituals products for everyone. Everything makes you feel you're in a 5 star hotel, with the mood of a hostel, with the common kitchen. Just what i wanted!!
I have to mention that Heidi and her colleague went beyond my expectations: We had to catch a train at 11 pm at night but they still allowed us to use the common kitchen and the Sauna(!!!) even if we checked out in the morning, and that felt very special. Thanks to all Folks hotel staff, will definitely come back!

I have wanted to come here for a long time and finally it happened. The hotel has a simply unique location. On the one hand, you are like on an island, where there is only the sea and nature around. On the other hand, 15 minutes by car and you are already in the center of Helsinki with its urban rhythm, a huge number of shops and restaurants. The hotel itself is made in such a style that its architecture merges with the nature of the peninsula and everything looks harmonious. The rooms are quite spacious and bright, it is a pleasure to be there. Everything is very thought out and comfortable, there is a wardrobe for clothes and accessories. Very comfortable beds and lovely linens. In the morning I don’t want to get up at all, but I have to get up because of a delicious breakfast. Breakfast, though not too varied, but all the products are of very high quality. Separately, I want to say about the sauna and pool - it was wonderful! From the sauna you can go outside and jump into the sea from the pier).

I had booked an airport hotel as my trip was very short and I didn't want to spend too much time commuting but when this property popped up on Booking.com with a Genius discount I thought, this is a must-see! A major selling point was the free sauna, convenient location in the town where I had my business meetings and the great reviews about the breakfast. Upon arrival at Backby I was transported to a fairy like destination. The landscaping, the buildings, the air that was pure and fresh. Everything felt magical. I slept soundly in the firm single bed and enjoyed a superb breakfast buffet the next day! Even more special the sun was out in all it glory on my second day so I was able to enjoy breakfast on the terrace with a view of the lush Finnish forest. I sat outside for two hours in the sunshine enjoying a three- course breakfast of fresh berries with yoghurt, bread and pastries with sausages, and specially made hot chocolate! This place makes me want to return to Finland!

We liked everything. Our room was cosy; it was the first time when I felt at home in a hotel. I tried SPA treatments, and they were on a good level, too. The staff was polite, friendly, and helpful. We came right after Christmas, and the hotel was beautifully decorated. So many things have been included, which is what to be expected from a 5-star hotel: shower cap, soft bath robes and slippers, bath salts, nice capsule coffee machine (we didn't use though). The breakfast was very nice with good selection and food quality. I particularly liked old-styled porridge with dry fruits (I didn't try such before, but I'm pretty sure it's how it tasted when the hotel was founded 137 years ago) and that tasty cappuccino was included into the price.

Very scenic covered in snow in December! For a campsite on the outskirts of the city we really felt like we were staying in a cabin in the middle of the Scandinavian forest! (Our cabin was the last in a row of five, and there is civilisation all around, but it was peaceful and felt more isolated than it was). Cabin was very warm and clean. Metro station 2-3 mins walk, and a small supermarket right outside the campsite was useful.

Vantaa was a good place to stay out of Helsinki with much reasonable prices. The aviation museum is a must see and spent half a day there. The mall near the hotel was very good and spent a whole day there. We used Vantaa as a break between trips but would spend more time in future.

Go south to see the magnificent sea, there is a magnificent 20 km Rantaraitti road by the sea. You can walk, run and cycle there. The road is illuminated and really safe to move around, because the richest residents of Finland live next to the road. For example, the directors of listed companies with their families and residents of embassies. I have also lived there myself. Overall a great city to visit for four days.
Overall a great city to visit for four days. Much is accessible on foot and the city is flat. There are regular trains from the airport to the city centre and this was cost effective (€4.40 per person).
The markets around the harbour have a great selection of artisan crafts, jams and other products. There are souvenir shops around there also but would recommend saving the souvenir purchases for the souvenir shops near the church in the rock. Prices there are at least €5 cheaper and they have almost the same selection of items.
The area around the Oodi library is lovely for photos and you can get to the church in the rock easily from there.
If you are looking for restaurants, Olivia's was fantastic - there is one inside the train station and another about ten minutes away from the Novotel. It is very popular so I would advise making a reservation through their website (available in English). Staff at shops and restaurants spoke excellent English.
From the main train station, you can go underground to a shopping centre with various shops.
I would recommend a day trip to Turku by train and an ice hockey match at the Helsinki Ice Hall depending on the time of year. The tram system works very well but not all ticket machines at each tram stop worked. So, it is advisable to buy tickets for the tram from the metro station (below the main train station).

Our primary reason for Vantaa was our need to be at the airport very early. The public transport runs super efficiently.
We bussed into central Helsinki using 2 routes and both were excellent. Bus stops literally outside the apartment block.
The train station is a brisk 10 minute walk away and again super service for Helsinki, the airport or connections to wider Finland..
Locally there's a a couple big supermarkets too.

The Helsinki metro runs through Espoo, and bus services are also very good. Tapiola is the cultural centre of Espoo, e.g. theatre, music. Also EMMA Museum of Modern Art. Sello in Leppävaara and Iso Omena in Matinkylä are great shopping centres.

Small and easy to visit, no stress.
Small and easy to visit, no stress. We still have things to visit.
Good public transport
clean, not to much traffic (summertime ?)
good mix of culture, shopping and nature.
good transport from and to airport
and definitely good coffeeshops :)

At this time of year, late April, some of the tourist options dont operate as you might expect aka Hop on/off bus isnt that until into May, (convenient Tourist information at Senate Square in the City Centre. )Olympic Museum may be of interest but wont take that long to look round. Seems if you want the Salmon Soup you had better think about that early on a cold day - initially looks expensive but the pictures show large chunks of fish. Lake Tuulusa can be reached by bus from Kervo rail station - had as short stay there. Harbour boat trip was chilly so went inside after halfhour.

We stayed in Espoo for one night,then stayed four in Helsinki.
It was the best way of enjoying the snow (being Irish it is a novelty )and enjoying the peaceful forest surrounding the hotel.
It was a great start to our christmas break before going into the city.
It was magical and I did a morning hike around the grounds of the hotel.
My sons and I loved it.
