The Picturesque Land of Lavender and Pastis
With lavender meadows and limestone soils covered with garrigue, the beautiful Provence smells of herbs, flowers and warm mistral winds. This vast French region spreads along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea from the wetlands of Camarque to the peaks of the Maritime Alps.
Famous for its cuisine, picturesque villages and the weather, Provence is one of France’s most popular holiday destinations. People come here to relax under the stunning blue skies and enjoy a slower life pace over a glass of pastis or local wine.
But don’t be mistaken, Provence is as much about the bustling cities as it is about its quiet countryside. Make sure you pay a visit the 2nd largest French city, Marseille, the forever glamorous Cannes or the popular resort of Nice. All of them offer plenty of sightseeing attractions, cultural events and fine dining venues.
For a breath of art and history, stop in Arles, a town full of Roman remains and Van Gogh’s famous artistic inspiration, or Avignon, best known for the stunning Gothic Palace of the Popes - the seat for Western Christianity during the 14th century.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.7Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 114 reviewsThis is a top tier hotel with stunning views, warm interiors and exceptional service. The indoor pool, sauna and spa are a highlight. The spa services were amongst the best we have received. When we arrived they had a few gifts on the bed waiting for us and when we left they had prepared monogrammed green leather tags for us - the loveliest touch! The hotel is quite spacious with multiple places to lounge and we never felt like it was full despite clearly being popular. The bar connects to a terrace overlooking the gorge. The interior decor is also curated and a dream! Everyone from the valet to the front desk was extremely good at their job, a master class in hospitality. The minibar was complimentary and the activities that they booked for us were not expensive. I would highly recommend scheduling a picnic. They will give you electric bikes with which you can ride down to an abbey surrounded by lavender fields. The hotel is centrally located in Provence so the perfect base for any adventures! Overall it was an incredible experience and well worth the price.Guest review byElenaUnited States

Tanya at reception made us feel welcome straight away and offered us a welcome beverage. There was water in the room when we arrived and a complimentary bottle of wine and a gift of honey which was a lovely touch. The staff in the restaurant were very efficient and courteous,. The breakfast was very good and the view was awesome. The pool area was very clean and the staff were very helpful in arranging towels and umbrellas.Guest review byGeraldineIreland

Nicolas was very helpful since the pre-arrival till we checked out! He helped us with a lot of suggestions about what to do in the region. Everything went well. The lady who served us breakfast every day was also amazing and very friendly. Your room us cleans and made up by the time you are having breakfast. The pool/jacuzzi area is so incredible, very peaceful. Overall we had a great time and would surely recommend the place.Guest review byNadiimNetherlands
- From $645.62 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 491 reviewsWe loved our stay here. The breakfast was excellent! As a vegan they had plenty of options for me. The location was beautiful. There was a great parking lot for those who are driving. The spa is phenomenal! There were so many rooms and it was very spacious so it never felt overcrowded. The inside of the hotel is beyond beautiful, modern, but still has its charm of an old convent. The staff were friendly and helpful.Guest review byNatalieUnited States

We liked the hop on hop off bus though we couldn’t get the audio to work on our phones. The MuCee is great with excellent exhibitions and a sunset cruise on a sailing boat was lovely especially if you are young and happy to swim. But it was also good for an old couple. Like us. Like a lot of French towns, it is difficult to get a sandwich type lunch and also dinner in the evening as lots of restaurants closed in the evening. There is a lot of public transport - metro, buses, trams and you can tap with your card for ticketspGuest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Avignon is a lovely city with so much history to the town as well as close by towns. You can see most of the major sites in one day and can easily travel to other towns like Nimes and Arles. We enjoyed wandering the streets and looking into the cute shops and eating at the restaurants.Guest review byMary BethUnited States - 10.0
Aix-en-Provence is a delightful city.
Aix-en-Provence is a delightful city. It is the birthplace of the painter, Cézanne and there are museums devoted to or include his art. There is a very beautiful boulevard called Cours Mirabeau which is very wide and has many fountains. On Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a huge market there. We ate at one of the restaurants with outdoor seating. This city is well worth the visit!Guest review byEstherCanada - 8.0
The town is lovely.
The town is lovely. Enjoyed the Roman Colosseum, amphitheatre and baths. Visiting La Camargue our main reason for visiting Arles was a delight. However we found in general the food was a bit dissappointing. We visited the fabulous Luma Building which we loved also. Overall would recommend Arles for a 3 day trip maybe, rather than a weekGuest review byPhilipIreland - 4.0
We Didn’t like Toulon. Large, busy place.
We Didn’t like Toulon. Large, busy place. The main town wasn’t nice and not somewhere I would want to walk around. Beaches were very average - dusty shingle rather than sand. I wouldn’t return or recommend. We included the visit in a stopover.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Visiting St Tropez anytime is fabulous but during the Fetes des Voiles is something sensational! The atmosphere is electric, people are generally sooo cool and inclusive and the whole place just hums. People are having loads of fun everywhere but you don’t tend to see out of control drunks anywhere. If you are sitting on the fence and not sure about whether St Tropez is for you, go! You’ll be glad you did…but you need to know prices are higher.Guest review byDesley TruscottAustralia - 10.0

Excellent little town with ample restaurant choices and amazing access to the Calanques National Park. Very walkable, great bakeries (Boulangerie Lion & Le Fournil du Port). Cannot comment on the main beach but la Plage du Bestouan and the Calanque de Port-Pin offer some great swimming and sunbathing opportunities.Guest review byFranciszekUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Hyeres is beautiful like with a touch of Saint Tropez but way more peaceful. The people are nice and kind-very helpful. There are so many beach to chooce from. The transfortation is efficient enough. My favorite spot is the Port Saint Pierre- where you can dine by the port. I stayed in Ibis Budget hotel which is very close to the city center. Also the weather is nice.Guest review byMarvinPhilippines - 10.0

Enjoyed swimming, walking along the sea front and the ports and having coffee overlooking the sea front. Didn’t really see the uphill historic part, which I regret. The Tourist office at Saint Raphael was helpful as I needed a bus timetable. I’d say you need to be reasonably fit ( or have a car) to stay in the area I was in as in fact buses were few and far between so I did a lot of walking. I was on an Interrail pass so also enjoyed a little side trip out to Nice, which has good and frequent rail links with Saint Raphael.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom
