The Grand Hotel is beautiful and deserving of a higher rating than 2 stars. The hotel has been renovated to a high standard, the owner Mathilde is delightful - so helpful and friendly and the breakfast was superb. We loved the town and would definitely visit and stay at Le Grand Hotel Mont Dore again. Absolutely wonderful. The onsite free parking was a real bonus.

The hotel were very helpful. Helped with the bags, and then directed us to the ski hire just round the corner, where we were able to get seen right away the evening before we started skiing. Excellent breakfast!

We had a stopover in this city, so we didn't care about the location that much (in fact, we wanted to avoid city centre). Instructions about the parking have been sent to us in advance. The parking garage is around the corner. The price was just awesome (60 Euro for 2 adults and 1 teen). Didn't take breakfast. Check-in and checkout were fast, the staff spoke fluent English.

    Location is outstanding, we came back here partly because of the views. The staff are always friendly, helpful and polite. We love the charcuterie there. Breakfast was lovely and a great selection. Our room was clean, a proper shower, not a bath and the bed was comfortable. Balcony had amazing views.

    Really great place. This is right at the bottom of a tracking route up to the "Puy de Sancy." Very close to the cosy village Mont-Dore. We had dinner twice and breakfast too, and it met/exceeded expectations. Big bonus for having a charging point for EV's right in front! I would come again.

    Clermont-Ferrand was a really enjoyable place to visit. I especially liked how the city blends natural beauty with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Getting around the city was pretty straightforward. When it came to food, we mostly tried local spots we came across while walking around, and overall, the food scene felt very authentic and accessible. There were also lots of parks and open spaces where he could run around and play. Overall, it’s a great city for a relaxed family trip with a good mix of nature, culture, and kid-friendly activities.

    Some really good restaurants but you need to book in advance as they all seemed to be busy in the evenings. Parking is quite good in the evenings but takes a bit of time finding a space during the day.

    Issoire is an ideal overnight stop when travelling from the UK to Spain and vice versa. The A75 from Clermont Ferrand to Beziers is the best road I ever travel on -- relatively quiet, especially at night, lovely scenery and a direct route to the Med. Also, the only toll is on the magnificent Millau Bridge, but that is avoidable by going through the town. Central Issoire, where there is a good choice of accommodation, is only a half mile from Junction 13.

    Sorry to say that it took us 30 to 40 mins to check in as the computer was not working I had to press the button for help twice don't want this at check in it was a hot day ant the air conditioning did not work part was broken off any time we go away we always look for b&b hotel not sure anymore

    We had been there before but only for a single night.

    We had been there before but only for a single night. We love the town, the hotel, the atmosphere. We ate breakfast in the hotel which was incredible and ate out for other meals (not available in out hotel). Bit of a nuisance to search for other places to eat - the month was September and quite a few places were closed. The Cafe de Paris was a reliable stop gap.

    Thiers didn't strike me as a normal place for tourists, it is a standard home town but we found the residents very kind and friendly, helping us along when our somewhat limited French language skills let us down! We were lucky to experience a local music festival with a mix of bands on, stalls selling food and artisan-made goods, etc. - a really enjoyable night out. We noticed several restaurants but due to the festival we ate at various street stalls and bars. Thiers may not be suitable for those with mobility issues as it is very hilly; the street we stayed on had stepped pavements. However, I managed to walk around the town ok, despite having some walking problems.

    My stay was one night only but it was a charming hotel with excellent features. The room was quiet, comfortable and nicely appointed. Bed quality was great, which is very important to me. The price is reasonable. Best feature is the restaurant. I hate having to hunt down a restaurant for a short stay like this. Food and service was excellent!

    Although not used during our stay there is a swimming pool on site. Also, good walking and a variety of sites above the town to offer that sort of holiday. For an outdoor holiday in all guises, it wd be worth a thorough exploration of the area. For our touring trip we needed a night only and the hotel where we stayed offered everything we needed.... and private parking!

    We were not there to do any sight-seeing - just to get a good night’s rest to break a long journey. It seems there are plenty of interesting places to visit around Clermont Ferrand but that was not our purpose on this occasion.

    If you are looking for a special experience, I recommend staying her. The building and grounds are an an actual castle built in the Italianate style (think Romeo & Juliet). The host and hostess were most accommodating. The grounds are extensive and include a very nice campground where the spaces are privately spaced with bushes & trees in between. There are laundry facilities. Some spaces have amazing views. The swimming pool is very large, with a play tower and two water slides. Our room was more than adequate, quite clean, with a balcony and a wardrobe.
