Lyon is France's 2nd city with a strong identity.
Lyon is France's 2nd city with a strong identity. It is full of museums ranging from the traditional art galleries and civic history showcases to unique must-sees like the Lumiere museum celebrating the career of the Lumiere brothers who invented motion pictures. There are many interesting neighborhoods, particularly Vieux Lyon, les Croix Rousse (with lots of frescoes) and the river banks. The metro system is wonderful, fast and frequent, enabling you to travel long distances in very short times. We particularly recommend City Passes, which include unlimited access to the metro, tram, and bus system, along with museums and the fantastic funicular up to the heights of Fourviere. Also, if you have time, take the new Navigone boat service (included in the pass) for a morning or afternoonscruise up the Saone and back, with each way lasting about 40 mins. Lyonnaises are proud of their food, with many unique dishes that deserve a try. You have to like meat, though; vegetarians might find their stay difficult.Guest review byNigelCanada - 10.0

Great for the week-end, during autumn or even summer! Go take the train to Mer de Glace and go up the mountain to Aiguille du Midi. They're a must do! Also go on a little hike to Chalet de Floria for nice café with views. The hike is only 45 minutes and easy.Guest review byAngela P.France - 10.0
We really enjoyed Grenoble.
We really enjoyed Grenoble. It is a nice friendly city with good transport. We visited the art gallery and the cable car. The scenery is stunning. We were only there two days but with more time would have ventured out of the city into the countryside. We would recommend the Belle Idée restaurant. After Grenoble we went to Aix. The first part of our journey was on a beautiful little train from Grenoble towards Gap. This went through the Alps and this journey was amazing. To be honest, Valence is an ugly city. The Rhone flows through it but alas large motorways beside it. The centre is a bit run down. If you are on your way and are near it, you can visit the centre and have something to eat. There is a nice park near the river.Guest review bybNetherlands - 8.0

Interesting town with cultural heritage. I was just passing through en route from Italy to London but it is a perfect stopover for one night. Unfortunately I was there on a Monday, when some attractions eg the castle are closed but I did visit the cathedral. I made 3 separate booking .You have to buy your own Toilet paper .room cleaning is extra charge .If I booked 3 times in separate occasions they must be doing the bed and give the cleaned room to me no matter its same room . Aix-les-Bains is a very pleasant town on the shores of the biggest lake in France: Lake Bouget. There are lots of restaurants and places to visit including a Casino, mountains and water sports. Lyon is a nice city with a town mentality (a good thing). Green areas within walking distance. Pleasant parks and public gardens without crowds. Lots of drinking water fountains. MAC (museum of contemporary art) is really worth visiting. The city centre is a bit crowded but that's nothing compared to overwhelming Paris. Regarding the Villeurbanne itself, river banks are green, no beaches, waffle booths or "tourists" with portable speakers near the river. The streets are mostly empty, though singing and shouting students sometimes appear. A nice quiet district in my opinion.
