Finding a hotel with free parking was my main objective and in main parts of Bordeaux very difficult as most were pay or they had payment parking close by. So across the river Garonne was better for me lovely clean hotel free parking and excellent rooms for the cost. Only a short stay but do wish I was able to stay longer what a beautiful city plenty going on extremely busy but trams buses taxis even boat crossings but was amazed at the architecture of the city absolutely beautiful. Toulouse cafe culture is wonderful. The architecture is also stunning. The old town streets and alleys are a joy to walk in, as is the Garonne riverside. We loved eating in the restaurants in Place Saint-George and the Place du Capitole. The basilica and the Couvent des Jacobins are stunning architecture and history. Everything in the old town is easy walking distance, mainly on the level. The whole city felt safe and very clean.
The whole city felt safe and very clean. The walk along the Coisette was very enjoyable with plenty of seats to sit and watch the world go by. Visits to both of the Islands is a must. Self catering is easy with supermarkets and fruit and veg markets close at hand. The train station is within easy walking distance and a day trip to Ventimiglia in Italy is recommended. Lots of wonderful monuments and historical buildings to visit. Transport system excellent once you have got used to it. Clean and comfortable. A multitude of cafes to choose from. Avignon is a brilliant location for your stay in Provence.
Avignon is a brilliant location for your stay in Provence. Initially, we had looked at staying in one of the villages of Provence but on finding a great apartment decided to base ourselves in Avignon. This was the best decision and it worked out very well. We were able to go for day trips to towns like Les Beau, Gourdes, Roussillon and St Remy while also staying close to restaurants, markets and the beautiful historic sights of Avignon. Great City. I coming here for 6 consecutive years. I just love this town. wonderful city center with a lot of shops and restaurants. The Markets are great. Easy to get around by foot or transport. The visit to the castle was amazing inside and out. A short walk into the Bastide (New Cite) is lovely finding numerous cafes, shops and cathedrals. Some great go to opportunities! Useful to know that some restaurants close on a Wednesday so you can plan were to eat.Great contrast between the old and new cite.Our favourite place to eat lunch was Au Petit Brunch.
