- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 168 reviewsThrumster House is an incredible, old laird's house, and you truly feel like royalty stepping into the spacious foyer and gallery. The rooms were decorated with really nice touches and were filled with personal memorabilia of the host family. Everything was very clean and charmingly done, breakfast was incredibly delicious and the host very kind and helpful. Thrumster House is the perfect place for anyone who ever visited a National Trust building and thought "I would like to spend a night here".Guest review byAnna-LenaGermany

A poor and unattractive place.
A poor and unattractive place. Most shops were empty and nothing was looked after, except a superb flower garden around a statue in a little square near the hotel. It was difficult to find somewhere nice to eat. Quite depressing environment.Guest review bySimonUnited Kingdom - 6.0

John O Groats is a very small place. which sort of has to be visited if your in the area. I wouldn't rate it as a destination if it wasn't for the fact its the northern most point on mainland UKGuest review byKarenUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Everything surpassed expectations.
Everything surpassed expectations. I had the most peaceful night that I can remember, the facilities were spot on, the views were spectacular and one immediately felt a peacefulness that I can only describe as sublime. The caravan itself was immaculate and I particularly liked the decking which had double doors opening out on to it. The provisions left were outstanding, the layout and size of the rooms made it easy for us of advanced age to navigate , the beds comfortable and the washing and showering facilities very clean and easy to use.Guest review byEdgar - 10.0

A really lovely hotel.
A really lovely hotel. Food (breakfast and dinner) was amazing (apart from Tart Tatin very soggy pastry). Staff professional, helpful and friendly. Disappointed couldn’t have a cocktail at bar. However, a fab place to stay.Guest review byCatrinaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The proprietors Euan & Emma were excellent company and very attentive to guests' needs. The hotel had an excellent menu with accompanying wines, beers, spirits, if required. The hotel also had an extensive range of locally-produced spirits. The accommodation was excellent and well-equipped. The only down-side was the lack of TV reception - although being without TV was somewhat of a blessing!Guest review byBrianUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Dunbeath is an excellent stop on way to Scrabster to catch the ferry to Orkney. A quiet but working harbour with a lighthouse which we walked down to and we also walked up the river which was delightful.Guest review byAnna DUnited Kingdom
