FAQs about hotels in Dorset
Southern English Natural Charm
With one of the highest proportions of conservation areas in England, the Dorset County includes 2 ‘Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ covering more than half of its territory. It is also famous for the ‘Jurassic Coast’, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that actually represents three-quarters of the county’s coastline.
Considering that half of the population lives in the south-east of the county, Dorset is characterised by an enchanting countryside atmosphere. Languid limestone hills and clay valleys cover a big part of its surface. Loads of Dorset hotels and inns are spread throughout this area.
Shaftesbury is one of the most picturesque towns, rolling down the hill with old rural houses. A visit to the chief town of Dorchester and its County Museum is a must. Check out some of the Dorset boutique hotels located in old refurbished manor houses, and spread throughout the county.
The Jurassic Coast runs along 155 km. It includes magnificent formations like the Lulworth Cove and the Durdle Door arch, plus the Isle of Portland with Chesil Beach and its large tidal lagoon.
The cities of Weymouth, Poole, Bournemouth, and Christchurch are located along its coasts. Experience this charming piece of England, don’t miss the Booking.com special offers for Dorset hotels.

A buzzing touristy town with plenty of things to do and keep you interested, The council do a really good job keeping it clean and tidy. The waterfront is a wonderful sight and gives a good long bracing walk.Guest review byTIMUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Plenty of parking. Good selection of shops. Fair amount of attractions e.g. Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum, within 45 minutes drive away. Local bus service seemed available for some of them. Attractive countryside.Guest review byP0tter - 10.0
Lyme Regis is extremely picturesque.
Lyme Regis is extremely picturesque. Coming from London we revelled in the stress-free environment. Plenty of places to eat on and near the seafront. The location is hilly and for older people like us, a car is necessary. Bearing in mind the hills, the local authority has done very well in its provision of car parks near the seafront. Lyme Regis is an enjoyable place to visit in itself but is also near numerous other resorts and attractions. It was our first time in Dorset and we were impressed.Guest review byIanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Location was fantastic, in the centre of town.
Location was fantastic, in the centre of town. Owners were fabulous - friendly, helpful, and flexible The cottage was beautiful - very clean, nicely furnished, all necessary kitchen appliances on hand, start up food items supplied by the owners without any request from ourselves and at no added cost. This included milk, butter, coffee, tea, milk, bread.Guest review byJudith RobertsonUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Staying in a place on the pier was nice: we barbecued there while the kids were crabbing. The place itself is a little outdated, many closed restaurants (in a bank holiday weekend in august...) but we had a car there so we went elsewhere. Beautiful little beach, cosy flee market on sunday.Guest review byDirkBelgium - 10.0

Blandford Forum had a lovely park with a large waterlily pond (would be so amazing to visit this in May or whenever the lilies flower!) and a pleasant river walk . The town had a nice place to have a drink (The Crown Hotel) and a Morrisons which was convenient as well as some coffee shops and small unusual shops. There were some lovely charity shops and the town was a welcome refuge from the more busier places we could have visited. I went to the fashion museum. It was a pleasant small town.Guest review byMagentaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

This is one of my favourite places in the UK.
This is one of my favourite places in the UK. Attractive old town centre, good bus and train services. Plenty of appealing cafés, pubs and small shops. Riverside very appealing. Surrounding countryside very attractive, plenty of good walks. Not far from the coast. Plenty to see and do in the area: Corfe Castle, Studland Bay, Swanage, Brownsea Island, and much more.Guest review byMartinUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Portland is a lovely location set a short distance away from the hustle and bustle of Weymouth. There is plenty to do and see in and around Portland, although it is easier to do these things eg; Portland Bill when you have access to your own transport. We absolutely would recommend dining at Crab House Cafe which is set near the end of the causeway before reaching Weymouth itself, and there is a quirky place called White Stones Gallery and Cafe in Easton, which has lots of local art on display amidst the tables customers eat at. There is also a fantastic area outside. Lovely garden with more artwork and tables spread about outside. We also dined as non residents at the Portland Heights Hotel which is another good dining experience with the added delight weather permitting of watching the sun setting, and of the wonderful view of Chesil Beach in its full glory.Guest review byRees
