We booked a family room but had our stay in a 8 bedroom appartment, that was a very welcome surprise! The fresh prepaired breakfast was lovely, we tried different like full English, pancakes and porridge but all was great and fresh. We had a family diner with 14 people and the meal was lovely, great staff, always available and very friendly.

This is a tiny market town (almost a village!) in Cumbria.

This is a tiny market town (almost a village!) in Cumbria. However, it has access to all of the lakes, boat trips, walking everything you need for a trip. There are a million climbing/walking shops in the town centre so if you forget anything it's all there. As for food plenty restaurants and cafes some very pricey others not. There is a Weatherspoons there which was packed morning noon and night for food if you don't want to pay for pricey places. There is a nice selection of bars too most do food and some are really foody places rather than bars. Dogs everywhere so if you are allergic - avoid! There is a wonderful supermarket there - Booths - which has everything you need if you are catering this yourself. Enjoy! If you aren't into climbing/walking then two nights is more than enough for just a relaxing weekend away.

We loved the scenery, bucket list walk, ticked ✅ off. We stayed in the Buttermere Court hotel, all staff very friendly, clean comfortable rooms, ours was first floor with a few small flights of stairs. Room 5 was over the dining room for residents not over the bar. Very flexible on cooked breakfast, perfect poached egg. Lake and Mountain View from room. Car park had cones for residents ready to use on arrival, free until departure at 11am moved the car a few spaces along and paid on return from walk. On the road side of the walk the terrain can be a little rocky and we walked through the tunnel. On return we had a lovely bowl of soup at Sykes farm cafe and a filled Yorkshire pudding just before the Bridge Hotel.

The lake itself is very large but not accessible all the way round. There is a lovely walk around Mire House and gardens which takes you down to the lake and to a beautiful church. Park at Dodd Forest car park and it is just over the road. If you can get to Bassenthwaite Lake Station its a must for a fabulous meal (we had breakfast) on a train carriage - highly recommended. If you follow the road down from the station Pheasant Inn is a lovely spot for lunch or dinner and very dog friendly.

Absolutely stunning landscape.

Absolutely stunning landscape. There are lots of beautiful walks from the hotel and a great tea room - the Flock Inn with wonderful views from the back seatin area. It is short walk to Stonethwaite which has a great pub and mining museum in the church. The best thing is the serenity and lack of other tourists.

This is the place to unwind, take in the amazing 360 scenery. Theres loads to do, walks, hike, rent bikes, kayaks, paddle boarding or just sit and watch the world go by. I ate at the restaurant Id booked The Glaramara hotel, they prepare exceptional food, my time was taken with hikes up Herons Pike, Scafell Pike and a good long walk around the Derwent lake. It’s a place that asks for your full attention and rewards it with a deep sense of peace. For me, Borrowdale isn't about what you do, but about what you feel—a sense of solitude and connection to something wild and enduring. I left feeling quite emotional and cant wait to return.
