We stayed in the junior suite which had the comfiest of beds, an exceptional bathroom and a stunning location. The grounds were immaculate, we were near lots of local beauty spots and couldn’t fault the place.

The staff were absolutely great and went out of their way to accommodate every wish we had and to help with advice on local attractions and public transport. Breakfast was also excellent - the service and the food (fresh fruit, great choice of cooked breakfast items, pastry etc). The staff were very attentive and always made sure that there was enough of everything on the buffet. Our room was tastefully decorated and the reception / lounge area was also very beautiful. Parking was also good. The hotel is very conveniently located for the town centre as it is only a very short walk to pubs and restaurants. We had a nice meal one evening in the hotel restaurant. We would have gone again but the restaurant was closed due to staff shortages. This was clearly communicated in advance of our stay so we knew about it and it wasn’t a problem at all.

Staff were amazing, all so friendly. We were checked in by the owner (we only found this out later when talking to other staff) We spent a lot of time say in the car talking to the staff and builders who gave recommendations of places to eat The view from the room over the ocean was amazing, and we could clearly see the castle too. I spent all morning sat in the window looking over the ocean. Beds were so comfy and I loved the size of the room and a great shower too

With several heritage railways in close proximity and access by train, Porthmadog should be a must on any Train enthusiast ‘List of places to go’. My son has been talking about the FFestiniog railway (Rheilffyrdd FFestiniog ac Eryri) for many years. We were finally able to make the trek and we were excited to see it all. We could have spent 3-4 days going on the different excursions. Plan on getting into the Boston Lodge railway works for a tour there also.

Criccieth is worth a visit.

Criccieth is worth a visit. Residents very helpful and friendly. Quite hilly in parts. Beach was lovely and clean. Take shop opening times with a pinch of salt 😉 A small, quiet village feel but enough to keep you occupied.

My family originated from Nefyn and I had lost a great great grandfather to a shipwreck off Anglesey( the Royal Charter). The Maritime Museum was good and I enjoyed the Bara Brith. The beach was stunning even with the wind and rain. The sunny day we left in showed us the interchange between sea and hills and the dazzling bright colours of the foliage. Loved the sheep and cattle too in the fields.

We travelled by train from Machyllneth to Pwllheli, then caught a bus to Ederyn. Both journeys were beautiful and inexpensive. The walks around the area are beautiful, with open countryside, distant peaks and sea views. It was not crowded, even in August.

I loved the setting - peaceful, quiet and atmospheric. Completely self-catered which suited my personal needs. Directions were clear and and helpful. Proximity to the coast path was a bonus - good base for accessing other areas - off the beaten track but not too inaccessible.
