The building itself had recently undergone a major renovation, so everything was new. A beautiful victorian manor, the renovations have maintained the charm of the place while providing modern amenities. Very well done. The staff were great - extremely polite and helpful, we lost our luggage en-route and the staff helped us to recover it. I think they went the extra mile. Breakfast (full English) was cooked to order and very tasty - proper bacon and sausage, also very good selection of bread, spreads etc. The dining room and bar areas very well designed, retaining the We also went for a walk around the grounds, over a bridge and down the river, about 1 hours walk - very nice, everything well maintained. Also the location was excellent - rural but only 25 mins drive to York centre.

This is a stunning, modern hotel which has recently opened. A lot of thought has gone into the decor and furnishings which are very tasteful. We stayed in a beautiful bedroom with a gorgeous en-suite bathroom. The large double bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was included in the price and it was delicious and cooked to perfection. It was served in the conservatory overlooking a delightful garden. Hospitality was first class as all the staff we encountered at Dewars were friendly and attentive.

    Everything was beautiful. The house was so beautiful. Immaculate. Location lovely facilities nice. Washing machine, at the property and and a dish washer was a luxury to say the least when having 7 for family dinner. It is beautiful for all ages, the swimming pool , sauna and steam room are lovely. The little arcade and shop, with an onsite pharmacy is so convenient. Takeaway wine is very pricey from the bar but they do a mean long island cocktail. X

    This was a beautiful gem of a place the location was amazing to use as a base to explore what Yorkshire has to offer. The lodge was clean and beautifully decorated and had a comfortable homely feeling to it making it easy to instantly relax into the peace and quiet. The extra touches that I asked for for my partner's 40th birthday (banners, cake, mulled wine and a box of chocolates) were excellent quality and a lovely surprise for my partner walking in.

    I loved the style of the hotel, its uniqueness and the fact there is so much history in its walls. Very lovely place and beautiful garden facility with stunning seaside view 😍 Food was delicious but small evening menu. Breakfast with a sea view something worth a distance to come and experience.     Harrogate is a beautiful town with lots of lovely shops including independent ones too. So many eating places you are spoilt for choice. Betty’s tea rooms are a must. Lots of great outdoor space , public gardens with well tended lawns and flower beds. The town was very clean.

    Scarborough is rightly a jewel in North Yorkshire's crown. It has two lovely beaches and a historical old town and castle on the headland. It caters for a wide range of interests from the boat trips to the amusements and of course seafood and fish and chips. As as a seaside resort its very hard to beat and really offers a lovely locations just inland too.

    A fantastic place to visit. Lovely market town. Lots to do - plenty of shops, bars, restaurants. Great castle - canal trips - train ride - walks along the canal and castle woods. We coukd have stayed longer - will definitely return.

    The people were very friendly.

    The people were very friendly. The range of shops, bars, restaurants was excellent. The station, castle, market square were all wonderful. Walk down to the falls. The bar 29 on Frenchgate is outstanding and Tara is just a superb host. Fiona in the Castle Tavern was lovely. The restaurant at the Fish and Chip shop upstairs was great .

    We weren't there long enough to really get to know the village (town?) but it looked as if there were some interesting walks for the dogs, an interesting river,birdwatching oportunities etc, and quite a few pubs for a place that size! Always a good shout. It also lacked a really busy main road cutting through (at least, from where we were staying) so not much traffic noise and easy to get about without getting knocked down!

    To be fair Storm Amy had began and the amount of road works between Wistow and Drax was an unexpected hindrance. Although Selby Abbey brought back memories of a wedding we attended some years back. Overall it appears to be a nice and safe looking place to reside in.

    thirsk is not the biggest of places but it was very nice, only thing is, if you need a taxi, regardless if their is racing on or not, you cannot get one, it seems that the odd individual people have one car and thats it, there's no taxi company as such and its pot luck if you manage to get one.

    Well what can I say an absolute little jewel of a town.

    Well what can I say an absolute little jewel of a town. Plenty to see from the town square and high street. Down to the river walks, The Lady Chapel, The Castle. River boats (but only till October) Mother Shipton's Cave. Got to mention the very quaint and beautiful railway station. It is quite hilly but with patience and care it can be got around we are in our late 60's and we managed. Watch out for the blue plaques on the historical buildings reading them is a real eye opener. Plenty of pubs to choose from but the Worlds End Pub has to be our favourite. The food there was very reasonably priced. Portion size is very generous and well presented and the staff are lovely nice place to take a break.

    Settle is a picturesque village with lots of shops, pubs, cafes and independant stores. There are lots of scenic walks from the village centre. The Golden Lion is excellent for a meal and drink. The other bars are all friendly and prices are reasonable.
