Breakfast was EXCELLENT! The bacon, sausages and eggs were fresh and local produce. The location is a small and very picturesque village and our beautifully decorated bedroom had a view of the downs and the White Horse. We are gluten and dairy free and this did not impede our choice of food at all. Little touches like gluten-free biscuits in the bedroom were especially appreciated! The landlady was very caring, capable and charming as was the waitress.

Nice little room, lovely clean bathroom, enough towels to use even though we had to bring it to Nick's attention that house keeping didn't change the towels they just hung the dirty and wet towels back up. We had enough tea and coffee making facilities, we had a fan in the bedroom but felt that 2 might of been better, the hotel doesn't serve food but we knew that before booking but there's loads of cafes and pubs very local. All in all a very nice hotel and we would stop again.

We were expecting great facilities and comfort, from the photos and reviews, but they really don’t show how amazing this place is! The lodge was clean, warm and comfortable. Decorated and furnished to such a high standard, with everything you could possibly need and set in such a picturesque location. The hot tub was amazing!

The city of Wells is a lovely place to visit.

The city of Wells is a lovely place to visit. Three days and we still could have spent more time there. There is a huge market 2 times a week, Thurs. and Sat., with crafts, foods, flowers and vegetables. The Cathedral, Bishops palace and palace gardens are wonderful places to visit. Do take the tour. We heard evensong one evening which was lovely. St Cuthbert's church is a lovely place too and they have regular concerts there as well. The Cheddar Gorge and Cheese place was a major tourist trap. Skip it because you can get great chess at the market! The Crown was a great pub for both food and cider, which is famous in the area. And if you are a standing stone freak there are standing stones out near Westbury-sub-Mendip. AND the people are so friendly!! Wells is a great place to go and we plan to go back!

    Bridgwater is a sad place.

Bridgwater is a sad place. The river trade, upon which its very existence depends, is gone and Bridgwater is not developing a replacement economy. The few shops still open are quiet, charity shops or selling vapes or other useless trash. A depressing place to visit. I stopped here to find Somerset wicker basket sellers. They've gone online!

Some of Yeovil is attractive (church area) but the rest is fairly run down. Very noisy nightclub near where we were on Saturday night until 4am…… Tambourino very nice Italian good. Minehead has a holiday feel, probably due to Butlins and people looking for something to do other than stay in there. The town is small, the bus service good. The Shops are all there, and banks too. Cafes abound. The steam train trip is expensive. The Dunster castle is better suited to a car visit because the walk up from the bus stop is hard. The nearby village of Watchet is ok for a visit, got a very reasonable cafe and a pleasant walk on the harbour. NOTE- if you go by coach to get to butlins, be prepared for a very cosy trip on the bus!! It was a shock to find that the Nat Exp coach took us to Taunton, then we had to get the bus 28 ( all included in the ticket) from there to butlins. Very crowded on change over day.

Liked · EXCEPTIONALLY PEACEFUL AND CLEAN ACCOMMODATION. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. From the moment we we arrived at Maplestone we were made to feel really welcome. Alan showed us to our room and made us a pot of tea with cake and sat with us in the garden, great service. Alan is an excellent host with a friendly, professional manner with great local knowledge. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Exceptional breakfast was plentiful and delicious with great choice. The property has a beautiful, quiet garden with tables and chairs to relax in. Would definitely stay again. Well done Alan and thank you for your making us feel so welcome.

I feel that the high street has been combined with the Clarks village extremely well. I also thought the high street was very attractive with the flower arrangements and a good collection of shops. It seemed to be a thriving high street.
