The city center is very pretty, full of flowers in the parks and nice cafes all around. We really liked the market with all the local produce. There are really nice little shops on Rakoczi Street. Many restaurants offer a 2 course menu at lunch time for really great price. The Benko Zoltan Park is a great place to go walking, running or to have a pic-nick The big hill in the middle has a great view from the top. Directly off the M5 motorway towards Budapest. Has free parking and 24 hour services. Safe as it has CCTV. Excellent restaurant and bar. Rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. We had our dog with us and she was facilitated too We all slept well as the room was sound proofed.Definitely great value for money . Lovely small city, conveniently located 4 km away from the highway. Nice restaurants and terraces in the center. What I want to mention is that people in the city are extremely kind. I left my bag by mistake at the terrace where we had dinner. I was desperate when I realized that my bag was missing because all my documents were inside. The waiter found it and kept it for me. Next morning, some very kind people at the bakery next to the terrace helped me to reach the owner of the terrace. The owner of the place came very early in the morning to open the place so I can get my bag back and continue my trip. I would really recommend visiting Varga Tanya near Kerekegyháza. We had an amazing time there, the staff was really helpful and kind to us. It has wellness facilities as well, including a jacuzzi and a sauna, and much more. They serve delicious food there for both breakfast and dinner, which includes traditional hungarian dishes as well. The great plain in the neighbourhood is perfect for a long walk. We stopped here on our way back from Greece. We were only in the center, which we were excited about! The central squares are connected. There is a beautiful Art Nouveau town hall, an Art Nouveau palace and several churches of different denominations. We visited a couple of museums.
We visited a couple of museums. They were quite cheap but interesting. The first a folk museum had a fascinating collection of rocks and gemstones and information about the history of Hungary with traditional lace costumes and painted pottery. The paprika museum was interesting and had information in Hungarian,English and German ( and possibly French)on the types of pepper and how the crop is harvested and prepared to make different strengths of paprika. There was also information on local vineyards and types of wine. The town centre is being repaved at the moment but lots of interesting historical monuments and statues to see. We were there because a relative was in the local (very good) hospital, but the stay was very pleasant, the people friendly and the food good and varied.
