City centre crammed with tourists.
City centre crammed with tourists. Dirty and run down in places. Despite terrible incidents if youths attacking tourists, drugs issues etc absolutely no police presence. Visit to Pearse street police station due to incident was encountered by a 3 hour wait with no one available on the counter snd a queue of people equally unattended for 3 hours - most who gave up and left. Absolutely shameful!!Guest review byPeterBelgium - 10.0
Cork is a very vibrant, walkable, trendy city.
Cork is a very vibrant, walkable, trendy city. I highly recommend doing the get on - get off bus and getting off at any stops that interest you. There's so much more to the city than just the centre hub. The English market is great for all your fresh food needs! Meat, veg, fish, baking ... Especially if you've got a kitchen where you're staying! It was exciting to explore through there. The old Cork Gaol was very interesting. We spent hours there exploring rooms and I highly recommend the audio tour. You're not going to get the same experience from the paper tour. Our time in Cork just wasn't long enough! We had breakfast at Spitjacks ... I highly recommend! Visit the Blarney castle! Go early & try to be 1 of the first up to the stone if you're doing that ... The crowds come thick & fast & if you're back at the beginning of the castle, it can be up to an hour wait & longer. Explore the gardens ... They're full of really cool stuff! There's not really a lot to do in Blarney itself but a stroll in the garden is great!Guest review byTePaniaAustralia - 10.0

Kilkenny is a hidden little gem & I'm so sad we were there for only 1 night 😔 There's the Kilkenny Castle, the Medieval Mile, St Canices cathedral & round tower ... There's so much to do in Kilkenny! We will definitely come back at stay for longer!Guest review byTePaniaAustralia - 10.0

Nice little town, lots of individual shops to meander around, interesting history, nice pubs, but only one that we could find, served food! We searched for ages, till we found somewhere to eat! We were disappointed at that to be honest. Also, OMG the one-way system is very hard to negotiate! We left our accommodation at 6.30am to drive to the ferry port at Rosslare and went around the system 3 times in the dark, before we managed to get onto the road we need! Badly signposted too!Guest review byJanetUnited Kingdom - 10.0

If you are looking for cutting-edge city life, this is not...
If you are looking for cutting-edge city life, this is not for you. Dundalk is a former railway town, largely built round the (now defunct) works for the GNRI and with much 19th century red-brick architecture. It has a busy high street with a lot of small shops, pubs and restaurants, none are grand, it reminds me of similar towns in the UK before planning blight took hold. A lot of effort seems to have gone into smartening the place up in recent years, which is nice. Would that other towns of its scale have survived so well it would be nothing exceptional, but as so few have, it has a real charm. As a base, it is well sited to explore the countryside around, which has a long and interesting history, with a lot of historic sites.Guest review byNicholasUnited Kingdom
