Hotel staff were wonderful it's a Family run hotel and little touches like coming out to help bring the suitcases in and the same when we left were very appreciated. The Spa was one oc the nicest I've been to and when you book it you have private access lots of candles had been lit for us and lots if attention to detail. So relaxing. The breakfast was wonderful with a lovely waitress and the choice of indoor or outdoor tables.Parking in a private car park is available and was free. The whole hotel is set on the side of the mountain so has multiple levels and steps. If you have difficult with stairs be sure to book a ground floor apartment. We really enjoyed our stay the walk to the beach is about 10 mins down a path and some steps not too steep and very straightforward. We also appreciated the discounted ferry codes and restaurant and beach access associated with the hotel Available on request. The hotel is 3 star but the service and decor was 5 star. The beach itself is white sand and shallow clear water you have to go out a bit to swim. The whole atmosphere on the beach was very chilled and peaceful and facilities were eccellent there are 2 Private beach access and 2 free beaches. The restaurant on the beach was amazing a huge choice of food from salads to sandwiches to pasta and fritto misto of fish. Also very good prices and well organised there is also a bar for fresh gelato and coffee and cocktails and a edicola and gift shop with the building. This was a big plus as we could walk down from the hotel and relax on the beach all day and everything we needed was there.Would definitely go back and would recommend this hotel and the Fetovaia beach and bar.

A very pretty island but if you travel on the ferry for a day trip make sure you check the weather report because we got stuck there overnight which was stressful. The Ferry company had no website and the phone number was engaged all of the time. The information was non-existent and staff were at times rude and not helpful. Were given false information and told the next ferry was at 3pm. We had to cancel the accommodation we had paid for and book another night in Piombino. We were having lunch and saw the ship's funnel emitting smoke. We had to run for 1 km to get on the ferry with no warning.

The village is pleasant, sports some nice boutiques, bars and restaurants (including a veggie one to my intense delight) and brimming with events in the summer evenings, although not all of them were to my liking. The sea promenade is very nice, the village center is nice but can be crowded at least in August. The surroundings offer not just some beautiful beaches that can be easily reached by car or, if you like a short hike, on foot, but also a lot of opportunities for hiking in the nature. In the harbour you can rent a boat or find day trips to Pianosa or to other locations around the island. If you're into nature, in the village you can find a whale watching association offering day trips for dolphin spotting, and another offering diving/snorkeling trips and kids laboratories on marine biology. The main cons of the location is that the main access road to the village is pretty busy at certain times (in particular around dinner time), at least in high season, this can be sometimes a real nuisance and in any case you want to take it into account if you have made plans for the evening.

We came here two years ago and spent 4 days after travelling for over 12 days through France and Italy by car from.the UK. Both times at the end of Season end of Sept early October. Not too hot but like a sensible English summertime. This time we were here a little longer, we flew into Florence and after a few days there hired a car and switched to "avoid motorways" on our sat nav, this took us to Siena through the Tuscany vineyards and stopping at the beautiful village of Castilla di Chianti we ventured on to and stopped in Siena, then onto Piombino port to get the 1 hour ferry to Elba Island. You can fly into Pisa and train to Piombino port in about 90 minutes. But driving through Tuscany was fantastic. This time on Elba we took our time, explored a little with the car, Marciana Marina 22 minutes north of Marina di Campo is a beautiful harbour town, my wife wanted to visit it a second time before we left the island. The coastal road has many villages and towns, but Marina di Campo has the best 1.8km beach. Poggio on top of the hill has a nice view out to sea as somewhere to stop for lunch. There is a warm welcome everywhere on this Island. We went on a 6hr fishing trip from Marina di Campo, which included, reeling in fish, a very lovely lunch with the other travellers and the crew, a swim off the boat in a secluded cove and some very lovely company. Basic, but worth every minute, we will both do this again for sure and we are not really into fishing. Car, scooters and cycle hire is available on the Island.

Apartamento Teresina was delightful and perfect for a couple with children. There is one master bedroom with a good-sized closet and a second room with 2 small single beds (unfortunately they were a bit short for me - we were 2 women, not a couple, so we needed both bedrooms.). The apartment was extremely well equipped and we met both our charming host and her equally charming daughter, who conveniently lives next door. Other than the 2 bedrooms, there's a dining table in the kitchen and an attached living room, so for a small apartment, it felt very comfortable. The apartment is a 1/2 block from the sea and walking distance to everything in Marciana Marina. I hope to stay here again when I return!

Marciana is a small, fine town with an old, well-preserved building structure that lives from tourism but is careful not to overcrowd the town with tourists. This way it remains authentic. The people there are usually helpful and friendly. However, very few of them can speak English.

I've known Capraia for decades and this year I was looking forward to taking advantage of the hiking options, the mesmerizing night sky and the general silence that dominates this tiny speck of land. The car ferry trip from Livorno on the Tuscan coast is short (2 hrs 45 mins) and reasonably comfortable. But a strong North Easterly will ruin your travel plans as the crossing might get canceled—and there's ony that one boat serving the island. Capraia is a jewel and its harsh interior fascinating. You may be hiking just minutes away from the town center and suddenly come across a herd of mouflon sheep charging through the Mediterranean scrub. Restaurants are few but all very nice, There's only one general store in the town center and its opening hours are bizarre, so come prepared with daily necessities if you have room for them. Some of the hikes can de demanding and you may need to climb through fields of volcanic rock. Sheer drops are the norm and children or pets must be supervised at all times. There's a landing pad near the main church where a medevac helicopter can land in case of an emergency. Hope you enjoy Capraia as much as we did. We're planning our next vacation there as we speak.

Great Italian town with lots of restaurants and cute shops.

Great Italian town with lots of restaurants and cute shops. At night the city comes (even more) to life and the city center is filled with people. The little harbor is fun to walk through and if you walk a little further you can hike along the walls of a fortress (now a prison) and end up at a very nice pebble beach.
