Travelling from Rome, we made La Spezia our base to launch into the Cinque Terre. Fiume269 was just 10-min walk away from the main train station to travel to the 5 towns. Buses from near our stay take you easily to La Spezia's main attractions.Guest review byRobin GomesItaly - 10.0
Charming Monterosso al Mare has the largest selection of...
Charming Monterosso al Mare has the largest selection of hotels, shops and restaurants compared to the other Cinque Terre villages. We used it as a base to travel to the other four villages, which with hindsight was a great decision as it is less steep compared to the others. It is very easy to travel between the villages by train but if you're fond of hikes, there are numerous trails which can be followed to get to each. We did the section of the Blue Trail (Sentiero Azzuro) between Monterosso and Vernazza which was very steep and took about 3-4 hours at a slow pace. The STUNNING Via del Amore (Lovers walk) from Riomaggiore to Manarola is flat and very easy. You would need about 3 days to see all the villages at a leisurely pace but allow more time if you plan to do several trails. The moon rise from the promenade paired with a busker singing live in Monterosso al Mare is breath taking and evokes an indefinable sense of inner peace. Since we stayed there for five nights, we had ample time to visit historical Porto Venere, a short ferry ride from La Spezia. After walking around for a few hours, we took a boat all the way back to Monterosso al Mare which was definitely worth it for the alternative views of the five villages. Another option for a location of the Italian Riviera to visit is the glamorous and star studded Portofino. Whatever you do and wherever you are, do not miss the delicious gelatos and freshly made lemonade! They're everywhere! Have a fantastic trip!Guest review byMeeraKenya - 10.0
Levanto is the next town north of Cinque Terre.
Levanto is the next town north of Cinque Terre. The train that runs between the five towns, actually starts in Levanto so you can easily visit all the towns, and the trains also run to La Spezia where you can connect to many other parts of Italy. There are many restaurants, a fairly large beach, and you have many choices for hikes, walks, or rent a bike and ride through the tunnels. We were very glad we choose Levanto as the Cinque Terre towns were fairly crowded.Guest review byLesli BowersCanada - 10.0
Riomaggiore is a vibrant town.
Riomaggiore is a vibrant town. Loved being outside at night with the restaurant sounds and bars playing music. It felt safe to walk around on my own. Enjoyed the harbor view and proximity to boat rental and tours. Beach was nice and small and not too crowded. Ferry is right there, too. Highly recommend staying in Riomaggiore.Guest review bySusan CleereUnited States - 10.0

Portovenere is a perfect place to stay, if looking for a quieter place but similar scenery to Cinque Terre. Lots of things to do from hiking, boat trips to other resorts and well connected to La Spezia by local bus.Guest review byJeanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Picturesque, relatively small and quiet compared to the other cinque Terre towns. Centrally located so I could begin day walks in both directions. Best not to carry heavy luggage up the hill from the train station (around 380 steps) - use the bus… only 1,50 Euros but expect to wait 15-30 mins at peak time. The walks to Vernazza and on to Monterosso, and also the walk to Manarola are magnificent, just be prepared for lots of steps.Guest review byJohnAustralia - 10.0

Deiva Marina is a nice smaller town by the sea, which is very clean. The town lays in the valley surrounding by green mountains. There is an excellent train connection through coast, you can comfortably go to Cinque Terre, La Spezia, Portofino, Genoa.Guest review byRadkaCzech Republic
