It’s not cheap but there’s some which are even more expensive… We paid ¥58908 half board ( dinner +breakfast) each night for a couple. They’ve a welcome drink ( apple juice n coffee) daily. There’s a large relaxing room with comfortable chairs for you to admire the garden n ice-creams ( though very small ones) provided n water . We were given 15 min onsen free for couple-room which you can paid for 1-hr usage if you like to spend longer time with your spouse. They’ve gender segregated onsen for hotel guests free. The meals are just heavenly. Staff are helpful n friendly n can speak some English ( very important for non-locals like us who don’t speak n understand Japanese ) Definitely will come back if visiting this place again. Lastly want to thank Tsuta Onsen Ryokan and Booking.com for their alliance together so that I can book confidently without worry ( some ryokans only book via their website n it’s all in Japanese 😅🤣🥹) . Always Booking.com is my FIRST CHOICE in all my booking for hotel stay as they presented the important n relevant information clearly. The staff was so friendly and incredibly helpful from the moment we arrived. We are cycling in Japan and are usually a mess by the time we arrive and they helped us find a place for our bikes and quickly check us in. All the drinks, snack and popsicles were unlimited and a joy. I made an espresso in the AM. Perfect. The dinner was exquisite. One of our favorites with fresh sashimi, and light delicate tempura. All the staff explained each item and local ingredients made it extra special. We ate double gohan beer had a big appetite. Special thanks to all who made us feel welcomed! Hon-Hachinohe has far more to offer than we could fit into...
Hon-Hachinohe has far more to offer than we could fit into our three-day visit—we truly wished we had stayed longer. The Korekawa Jomon Archaeological Museum was exceptional, offering a fascinating look at the area's ancient past. The Tanesashi Coast was another highlight, with its beautiful and easy-to-navigate hiking trails. In the center of town, we explored the Hachinohe Portal Museum, known as ‘Hacchi’—a six-floor space that blends cultural center, artist studios, and local exhibits. Even though Towada is about 60,000 population (big to me), it is very walkable. Lots of parks to visit (don't miss the Marshmallow House) and you can't beat the food you find in c-stores (Lawsons, 7-11, Family Mart) all over Japan. Most of the sights are outside of the town and we did not get to them because we did not have a car. The host, Akira, greeted us with a glass of their local apple juice (from their neighbor actually). It was a nice surprise! The house is located on a nice and quiet neighborhood and is surrounded by apple orchards. Since this is a home stay, towels aren’t included but you can request them for ¥100 per person. They offered to change the sheets after 3 days but we declined. Akira’s wife, Yo’ne, even took stride to learn how to ask “Did you have a good night’s sleep” in our language. She stated that she does that for every international guests they have. It was nice personal touch. If you plan to stay here, you’ll need a car as it’s about 15 minutes from the city center. However, the Go app (Japan’s version of Uber) works fine albeit a little pricier than the big cities. Other than that, we had a very lovely stay.Guest review byGingUnited States - 10.0
Lake Towada is absolutely beautiful.
Lake Towada is absolutely beautiful. The color of the water is stunning and you can take the leisure boat for wonderful views. Oirase Stream is a short bus ride away (pay when you get off--exact change only, or buy a ticket if you're coming from Lake Towada/Nenokuchi) which you can spend a day hiking (though it's more of a slightly strenuous walk). A beautiful city with plenty to see and do. Really recommend the ‘Aja’ restaurant, diagonally opposite the hotel - great staff and menu, and quite quirky.
