- From US$423.06 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 2,605 reviewsLocation is 10-15 minute walk from the Takayama station, which is convenient when you are doing day trips to the nearby attractions. I stayed with my 74 and 78 year old parents, and the walk was doable. The hotel has a free shuttle from the station which we used when we arrived and when we left due to the bags, other than that, we walked to the station. The city center however, is a bit of a walk (25-30 mins) which was not doable with my parents, so we had to pay for taxis, which are expensive in Takayama, so just keep that in mind. If i had been there with other ppl my age, i would have not mind the walk.. Food: Their restaurants were closed by 8:30, and so do most restaurants in Takayama, so make sure you (1) reserve wherever you want to go because most rests go off of reservations and (2) eat before 8pm or you will go to bed with an empty stomach. Breakast was pricy but if you are looking for something more than bread and coffee at the bus station before your tours, wake up early and might be worth the price. Facilities: Very well maintained, very clean, staff was very helpful. Onsen was AWSOME, super clean, multiple "jacuzzies", 2 indoor, 2 outdoors, SUPER relaxing. They are free of use between 3pm and 10pm and have everything you need such as hair treatments, hair dryers, etc. They have a sauna, multiple showers, and overall, it felt luxurious and comfortable. We had a massage which I believe was relatively cheap ($30 USD) for one hour and it was a very therapeutic one, although it is not on a closed room spa, which was okay for the price. Rooms: They are spacious, futon beds are comfortable, they are warm so you don't have to worry about heating it up when you return from your day trips. The staff will set up your futon bets at 7pm, unless you ask them to be earlier.Guest review byValeria329United States
- From US$427.04 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 526 reviewsVery original never seen anywhere else experience. The Onsens are the local attraction, but here they are in the hotel, non mix indoor and outdoor, and outside the hotel, after crossing the street and taking a very entertaining funicular, the an outdoor mix onsen, widely opened to an astonishing view to the mointains, still part of the hotel property. The breakfast and diner included are very practical but also highly luxurious, kind of 15 courses meal, both. The crew makes you feel like princes/ses, greatly professional and kindly helpful. The bedroom is a true traditional japanese experience, for the design but also for the kimonos ready for the whole family, with all its pieces and steps explained. Where to wear which shoes, the hotel providing all type of shoes, for indoor outdoor, front slippers to wooden flip flops, up to mountain boots. You also learn how to bath/wash as a traditional japanese. It was fantastic and unforgettable, while fun and educational, and a great family bonding time over discovery excitement. The shinhotaka ropeway makes it even more unforgettable, especially in snow, double the fun, It was Christmas, a true gift to cherish.Guest review bykettyAustralia

Very clean, comfortable and offers a huge variety of additional complimentary services! We enjoyed everything! The resort provide free drinks, ice popsicles after hot onsen, sake tasting! The yukatas were very pretty and comfortable, not to mention fun to wear :) The staff were very friendly and helpful all the time! We were very happy to enjoy a beautiful private open air onsen, it was a very memorable experience!Guest review byAnaLithuania
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 232 reviewsIdeally located if you're planning on taking the Shinhotaka ropeway (as moving around the villages can be hard without a car as you have to follow the bus timetable), the place is set on giving you the best experience for a relaxing stay by the mountain. The room was superb, diner was great and the onsen is cherry on the cake. Relaxing in a hot spring outside in the cold with snowflakes running around while contemplating the snowy mountains around really makes a magical momentGuest review byLouisFrance

Takayama is beautiful, geared towards local and foreign tourists. The only catch is that some places will only take catch so you need to keep that in mind. We found beautiful crafts close to the temple, we also visited the local morning markets and caught the bus to Shirakawa-Go which I cannot reccomend enough.Guest review byHelenaMalta - 8.0

The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses going from the station to take you to the start of that short trail. On the return you could either walk to the train station a short walk from Tsumago or catch a bus back to Magome then another back to Nakatsugawa station. Lots of options and times. A beautiful and picturesque walk.Guest review byFrangapaniAustralia - 10.0
RELAXING QUIET GIFU!
RELAXING QUIET GIFU! We just wanted to visit other places in Japan. We have been to Japan a few times already. We like going to these kind of relaxing places. We went hiking, we walked everywhere since everything was walkable. We had so much local food and sake of course! ONSEN! Nature everywhere! We also met some of my aunt's family and friends. It felt like a home. We love everything in here. We could have stayed longer but will be back and will see the other sights. Thank you GIFU! :)Guest review byisi paniniPhilippines - 10.0

Gero has so much to share, with food, including Hida beef, yes get familiar with it. It's top level Wagyu beef and is from Hida the region that Gero is situated. The city is easy to get around in the snow (in Winter) and in the rain (in Spring), with places that are easy to walk or ride share to. Gero to most is a journey to get to with taking the trains, but it's well worth the journey, having seen cherry blossoms in the ever greens AND the snow falling like in a "snow globe", encrusting the tress, during the train ride. We are fortunate to have experienced Gero twice and now looking for a third stay, in Autumn for the changing of the leaves!Guest review byRonaldoUnited States - 10.0
1 day experience is perfect.
1 day experience is perfect. The tourist site can be done in a few hours if your arrive before noon. Next is to enjoy a good hotel stay with onsen and their gourmet dinner onsite from late afternoon to night. Follow by breakfast and leave to next destination. There is a storage place next to the bus terminal if you have luggage to store for a few hours and check out tourist venue next to it before heading to the hotel. We chose to ship our large luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Family Mart or Yamato shipping services from Tokyo.Guest review byLianneUnited States - 10.0
The historic Main Street in the Iwamura Castle Town is...
The historic Main Street in the Iwamura Castle Town is designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings of the country. It is a charming town where I could have spent the day in order to both hike to the castle ruins and take a leisurely stroll through the town. There were many artisans, restored homes and gardens, and cafés to enjoy. I had plenty of time to hike to the ruins since I started at 5:30AM. But I only had 90 minutes in town and that was just not enough. I would have loved to have stayed overnight one more night but I was at the end of my 11 day travels and had the 6 hours travel day to the airport awaiting me. Most vendors only take cash (unless you have the PayPay app on your phone) so be prepared.Guest review byChristinaUnited States - 10.0
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains.
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains. Small, walkable, ( around the city or in the mountains ), has great food, friendly people… There are plenty of day trips from Takayama. We could not go to the valley to try onsen ( heavy rains ) and went to the Green hotel instead - the onsen there was, surprisingly, beautiful and relaxing. The train journey from Takayama to Kyoto is spectacular ( sit on the left side ) - amazing views of the mountains and the river.Guest review byMariaSpain - 10.0

We arrived here after our first four nights in Tokyo and welcomed the peacefulness and pace of the town. We walked two legs of the Nakasendo Way using Nakatsugawa as our base: one leg walking from Nakatsugawa to Magome and the other bussing to Magome and walking to Tsumago from there and then returning to Nakatsugawa to our delightful guest house. Everyone we met here was helpful and kind. .Guest review byDianeCanada - 10.0

Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu. There is a much slower pace here, incredibly friendly people. and beautiful nature. There's many nooks and crannies where you'll find interesting things, and the Gassho-mura open-air museum village is a must-see area.Guest review byVincentUnited States
