- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 719 reviewsSelected Iwaso for an authentic Japanese ryokan experience, and our expectations were exceeded. Our room was large, decorated in a traditional style, with a terrace with a view of the forest and brook. Everything was perfectly clean. Upon check-in, we have been provided with yukata which was very comfortable to wear. Both dinner and breakfast were of a traditional Japanese style and were absolutely delicious (before our arrival, Iwaso reached out to us with a query as to our dietary requirements and vegetarian options). We slept on futons on the tatami-matted floor which was very comfortable. Onsen was delightful, especially the outside one when one can look at the forest and listen to the nearby brook and crickets. Staff was very friendly, helpful and responsive. Iwaso is located conveniently for exploring Miyajima, a couple of minutes of walk from the ferry. Iwaso also operates a shuttle to the ferry which you are offered to use before checkin or upon checkout.Guest review byIvoCzech Republic
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,636 reviewsEverything. The hotel is on the hill and approx. 20 minutes by foot from the ferry but the property provides a shuttle. 7 minutes away from Itsukushima-jinja. If you want to explore the island more after the check-out you could store your luggage and take a shuttle later that day. Clean and neat. Welcoming staff, most of them have good English. Nice colourful yukatas to select from and a hanten. Tasty traditional breakfast with an instruction on how to eat it. Comfortable bed in a classic room.Guest review byAnnaIreland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 643 reviewsMost conviniently located next to the ferry terminal. Teppei and Shinko San cannot be nicer. They helped with our route around the island and treated us to perfection during our stay. The food (dinner & breakfast) was surprising and delicious. Definitely our stay at Yamaichi Bekkan remains a highlight of our trip to Japan.Guest review byAlejandroSpain
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 2,227 reviewsWonderful dinner, onsen, breakfast, views from the room. We loved our stay! The shuttle makes it very convenient to get to the hotel, but it's a lovely walk if you would like to walk a little bit. The shuttle also runs at night if you want to take a night walk to see the Miyajima views in the night lights!Guest review byLarsonJapan

The main reasson to visit was the Itsukushima Shrine but there was plenty of other shrines and temples to visit. The ropeway to Mt, Misen was great. The hike down not so much (not a trail, mainly steps - hard on the knees.Guest review byDeanUnited States - 10.0

Miyajima was great for walking around and doing the ropeway to the top. A lot of little eateries and street food- good if you like seafood. Scenic with the giant Tori gate and shrines, woods, deer walking around. Miyajima was one of my favorite spots on our trip to Japan.Guest review byMarciaUnited States - 10.0

It does get busy during the day when lots of tourists come over by ferry for the day however we hired bikes and managed to stay clear of the crowds for the most part. The Island becomes very quite in the evening which is perfect, I would advise that you book a restaurant as lots of the island closes around 5-6pm so anything that is open later gets booked up. We were very lucky to just get the last free table on two occasions. Also the deer wandering around especially in the dusk and evening before al the ferries drop off are enchanting, however they are not like the deer in Nara park and there are lots of signs that remind people not to feed or bother the deer, not everyone follows these rules which is disappointing.Guest review byDonnaUnited Kingdom
