Fuchu was a wonderful town to stay in on the outskirts of Tokyo. It has a slower, more relaxed atmosphere than central tokyo. The people were friendly and there was plenty to do and see. Machida has everything you need for shopping plus the Odakyu Line into Shinjuku or the Yokohama Line into Yokohama if you need to hit the big time. Still comoared to most North American towns, Westerners will think Machida is HUUUUGE and super busy. For Kanto region I'd saw it's a hub for Kanagawa but manageable. Food choices at and around the station are excellent. Hotels are way cheaper than in central Tokyo yet you are only 30 to 60 mins on any train to wherever you need to go. Direct buses from Narita and Henda airports as well so no need to deal with hauling luggage on trains. Or just takyubin (courier) luggage to Mahcida from airport.Guest review byBDonutCanada - 10.0

The island is lovely and has many outdoor activities. But you will likely need to rent a car to reach some of the more remote areas easily. There are buses and taxis, but you may have to wait quite a bit of time. Kichijoji is a great area in the western suburbs of Tokyo.
Kichijoji is a great area in the western suburbs of Tokyo. We explored the beautiful Inokashira Park and other points further west such as Chofu and Koganei. We ate at a great izakaya that specialises in squid called Totomaro. There's plenty of shopping, including Don Quijote and Yuzawaya. Tokyo is a vibrant city and we just love it. The food, the culture and the respect people show each other. It ain't always easy to communicate as an European but there's always a good will to help. The food, the food! We've been to fancy restaurants as well to small holes in the wall with only 6 seats. Everywhere the food is fantastic. Everything is made from fresh raw materials in real time with a lot of professional pride. Just enjoy It's not easy to understand the subway/trainsystem but once you've got the hook of it it's a splendid service We use to say, every part of the city differs from one another and you should at least spend a day at each district you visit; for the vibe, for the culture, for the shopping and the foodGuest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Love this neighbourhood. I lived in Japan for several years, 2 decades ago, and I have gone back a few times for a visit. First time for me to be in Tachikawa. It has great vibe, a bit of hustle bustle, but not crowded and suffocating like Shinjuku or Shibuya. Lots of shops and cheap restaurants.
