AbkhaziaThe staff at Hotel River Front is 100% the reason you should stay here! They arranged our transport from Mirissa, and to Ella. Booked our safari and sent us with a packed breakfast. We ate dinner at the restaurant at the hotel and it was so good and affordable too! Their safari driver was great, we saw 2 bears and 2 leopards along with elephants and everything else we'd hoped to see. This is a perfect place to stay to safari in Yala.

IndiaThe room and bathroom were spacious, well designed and impeccably clean -- we really appreciated the attention to details and the additional functionality offered by the daybed, the small desk, the armchairs as we were travelling with our tween and also had to do some work while on vacation. The pool was lovely - it is a good size and none of us had red eyes from chlorination. The beach the property opens onto is gloriously clean and we had it entirely to ourselves most of the time. The cafe served up delicious food but their menu offers only a few Sri Lankan dishes. At our request, the kitchen was only too happy to whip up Sri Lankan meals -- prawn and fish curries, traditional coconut sambol, dhals, gotukala salad, okra salad, ridge gourd in coconut milk, star bean stir fry, eggplant gojju, Sri Lankan pancakes with ice cream, watalapam .... these were by far the best meals we enjoyed during the entirety of our holiday and we would heartily recommend visitors to Lankavatara sample the Sri Lankan meals. The staff are very well informed and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay a memorable one -- from organising tuktuks, catamaran rides in the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary and turtle watching or airport transfers.

NetherlandsArriving at Art Yala my mouth fell open. Located at the lake with a beautiful terrace and the interior design could be found in a magazine. With the most delicious vegetarian rice & curry, a bathroom like a ballroom hall and a bed where you never want to come out made clear that my stay was too short. And the safari with the best and most friendly guide Dulitha made it complete. Thank you!

AustraliaWe had such a beautiful stay at My Resort Yala. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and cared for - the staff really want to make sure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. This is evident in the facilities - air con, good fans, filtered water in the room, mosquito nets (even though there weren’t many mosquitos), a fridge, a hair dryer, adapters to suit every country’s appliances. My favourite - bicycles. This allowed us to ride around town - a thoroughly enjoyable way to see the place.
We did an afternoon safari and managed to see a sloth bear! Along with so many other animals - many elephants, crocodiles, deer, bird species, mongoose, jackals, goannas (probably forgetting a lot here). The leopard eluded us. My husband and I have been on safari in Africa so we thought maybe we’d be underwhelmed - but it was awesome.
The pool was great for my kids. The temperature was just right. Breakfast was tasty and very generous, and the place has such a peaceful outlook over the rice fields. All of this for such good value. Thank you to all the staff for making this such a lovely stay.

GreeceBeautiful place and beautiful people. We had a very warm welcome, with a rich dinner of local cousine. The room and bathroom were really clean and the bed very comfortable. We were also impressed by how clean and well-maintained the exterior was. They also had flexible check out, and in addition, delicious refreshment drinks were waiting for us after the safari. Everything was perfect and the hospitality of the owners made it even better. We are truly thankful and wish you only the best!

United KingdomThis is such a special place and we loved the hotel. The staff were extremely attentive and the location is beautiful and very peaceful. We had some of the best food during our whole trip at this hotel - the chefs are amazing. We were so impressed by the attention to detail in the rooms, which were really well equipped. It was really the perfect balance - the rooms had the comfort and facilities of a much larger hotel, but with all the intimacy of a boutique experience.

CanadaAruni and the Blue Ocean resort team were amazing from start to finish. We booked the ocean view room and it was so stunning that we decided to stay for a month. During that month, we got help from Aruni with booking lagoon tours, setting up a trip to both the safari parks that were nearby and a lot of other things. Whenever we needed tuktuks she would go out of her way to arrange it for us. One time I had to take a sick stray dog to the vet and she arranged everything with the vet and tuktuk to take me there, she even fed him and now he is there often and it was very sweet and she really did not have to do that.
I cannot recommend Blue Ocean enough to anyone thinking about staying here. The beach is quiet and huge, there is so much wildlife nearby and there are a couple of restaurants nearby. Whenever we wanted to eat at the resort we would ask her in advance for some fish, lobsters and shrimp. On our last day they even had bbq which was very tasty.
Thank you Blue Ocean team. We will definitely be back! And we already miss the two (now three haha) dogs Brownie, Emma and Cheese ball :D

A HUGE shoutout to our tour guide Ashan who made our experience one that we will never forget. He is incredibly knowledgable, super passionate which made us even more excited, as well as knowing a lot about the bigger creatures he took much care and joy in the smaller ones too (side note, insane bird knowledge!). I even got a little photography tutorial, which meant that I could photograph the beautiful creatures with my new found skills. A great place to stay and would definitely recommend. Large comfortable room close to the pool, with restaurant and plenty of cold beer. We were very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. The owner of Serenity lake advices us to visit Yala safari, Sithul pawwa magul viharaya and sithul pawwa a super history with beautiful scenery, which we did and we're very grateful for his advice. We returned to the serenity lake to have lunch before heading off. Requested for a village kind of lunch with the local veggies and it was served on a lotus leaf... The most delicious meal it was. It definitely is an experience worth trying. The tree house has all the comforts you need but yet kept on the simple side. Don't expect much and you will get a lot. Nice food Bbq and big fire lit for you in the evening to give you a chance to relax and talk about your day activities. It was great to be left alone and the silence of the night.
