Nice clean town, plenty of places to eat and drink. The bridge museum is small but interesting. There wasn't much else to do that appealed to us, but we walked to Oosterbeek to see the annual celebrations. I love this city, it's my favourite place I have been to in the Netherlands (so far). The city centre is very walkable, despite it not being flat (highly unusual in the Netherlands!). Plenty of cultural sights, and things to do. Easily accessible by train with great connections all over the country. You can easily spend a few hours, or even a whole day, at the river beach (Waalstrandje) when the weather is nice. There are a few shopping streets, personally I like the Lange Hezelstraat with its record shops, gift shops, and vintage clothing stores, or if you like the high street shops then the Broerstraat is the place to go. The Grote Markt and old town area is full of small streets with little shops, cafes, and bars. It's on the mainline train route to Arnhem requiring only one change at Ede or two changes (another at Leiden Central). It's beautiful, rural countryside for bicycling and walking with many cafes and eating houses. Lots of history about Operation Market Garden. My hometown so yes, this was a really nice experience. Wijk bij Duurstede is a cozy little town with nice restaurants. The population is easy to talk to and everyone nicks their head or is wishing you “goeiedag” passing you on the street. Spring/summertime is by far the best time to visit Wijk ❤️ Recommend both restaurant De Engel and De Veldpoort but I’m sure the others serve great food as well.Guest review byEllenNorway - 10.0
