Hotels in Zeeland were quite full, so this was our not our first choice. However we were very pleasantly surprised by the spacious hotel suite facilities which were very well equipped with kitchen, etc. We even made good use of the washing machine in the lobby area. The rooms are in a separate building from the restaurants, but easy walking access. The food looked so good we stayed for dinner, and we were happy we did.

Our bicycles were locked in a bicycle-garage - which was great! The whole accomodation was clean and we slept like "babies" in the bed - it was wonderful! The fan in the room was shut off around 8 pm and started the next day around 8 am - so there was absolutely silence during night :-) There is a breakfast buffet with everything you need and a nice woman (sie spricht übrigens perfektes deutsch ;-) ) who cares a lot that everybody get what he/she wants for breakfast - Bedankt! We can definitely recommend this B&B!

A Modern Wonder

The south-western Dutch region, Zeeland comprises a series of islands and low-lying land best known for fantastic beaches and delicious mussels.

On a river delta bordered by the North Sea, the area has had a long battle with the sea. The water level is now controlled by the ambitious Delta Works project, a series of dams and dikes listed as a Wonder of the Modern World.

The capital of Zeeland is Middelburg, a lovely town with a Flemish-style town hall and gabled houses lining a zigzag canal. Vlissingen has a long, sandy beach and a pretty harbour, once a base of the Dutch East India company. Around the coast the Domburg dunes seem to stretch for miles and have inspired many a painting. This town and Cadzand on the mainland are home to several Zeeland hotels on the beach.

Breskens also has a great beach and prominent lighthouse, and Terneuzen upstream is the Netherlands’ 3rd largest port, linked to Ghent by a shipping route. Almost directly north is Goes, with an impressive church and pleasant harbour. On a northern island Zierikzee is another pretty town, while Renesse on the coast is Zeeland’s party capital.

    We were in March at Hotel Klokje, a wonderful place to relax and even nicer dogs are not only welcome, they are guests as well as people! The rooms are spacious (we had a room with balcony), simply but beautifully furnished, everything necessary is available. From refrigerator to Senseo to dog treats. The breakfast is rich, the breakfast room is nice and big. Also you have the possibility to eat in the evening in the restaurant, with changing daily menu or also from the small but fine menu. We felt very comfortable and welcome, everyone is very friendly and always happy to help. We will be back again !

    Spacious chalet which was extremely clean. A peaceful location for a 4 day short break in the southern part of The Netherlands. The heating system was also very good in the chalet and I was able to alter the temperature myself easily. The childproof electrical sockets were a bit of a puzzle initially! I was able to park my car right outside the chalet. The beach is a very short walk away over the dunes.

    Lovely promenade walk. Great choice of restaurants in the square. Recommend the restaurant in the old prison. Perfect spot for a drink watching the sunset. Hire a e-bike and cycle to Domburg via the coast. Plenty of spots to stop at

    Village of Renesse has not much to offer : a couple of little supermarkets, sport shops and mostly fast food restaurants. Only reason to go there, is the impressive beach, with great views on seals colonies on bright days, and lovely walks sheltered by the dunes on not so bright and windy days

    This is a wonderful place for a peaceful escape.

    This is a wonderful place for a peaceful escape. It is in the middle of forest and pastures so it is very quiet. There are excellent walking trails nearby. The house is very clean and tastefully decorated with enough space to be very comfortable. Even in the cold of winter it was well heated. The kitchen is very well equipped with good quality items. The quirky coffee-maker is fascinating and makes excellent coffee. There is a very good collection of maps and guide books for the local area. Hanneke's welcome was fulsome and very friendly and informative. Checkout was efficient and friendly. There are several very good restaurants a short drive away, try Puur.
