A whole day around Nizwa is worth it.It will be better if you'll go with friends or family or in a group so it will be cheaper to do adventure like hiking and roaming around cities.Transporation in Nizwa, also Muscat is quite pricey so maybe renting a car is another option. There are buses but if you're in a hurry and has short timings, then don't do it because traveling time is too long. People here are amazing, this little village is full of people at night. The locals are very approachable and accommodating to your questions.Guest review byMaryjane - 10.0

We stayed in Old Al Hamra at the Al Bait Aljabal Hospitality Inn which was wonderful. Beautifully artistically decorated. The very helpful owner found a local guide for us Abdul Rahman Alabri to take us in his 4x4 to Jebel Shams to do the Balcony Walk. AbdulRachman was truly excellent with a lovely kind personality. Very informative. I would never have managed the Balcony Walk without him as, although a hill walker, I can experience a fear of heights. The Balcony Walk has big drops on it though you are never truly exposed. Being with a local guy who knew what he was doing gave me confidence. His cousin owns a lovely cafe Saef in amongst the palm trees in old Al Hamra. You really are away from the commercial side of tourism there. Al Hamra can act as a base for many other places in the mountains. Easy to get to Misfah for exampleGuest review byNeilsonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I felt that this place was like heaven on earth to be honest!! So peaceful, nice weather (it rained a bit which was great!), green trees and bushes, trees that I have never seen before elsewhere, nice people with high morals, even the expatriates I feel took some from the morals of the locals. The houses and roads were all beautiful, well maintained and surrounded with gardens. The products we saw and got in the shops/festival such as olive oil, sidr, rose water/oil and skin products were a bonus. They are all organic and hand-made by the locals which I really loved.Guest review bySamiaOman - 10.0

Walking down the stairs hearing the birds singing and the bubbling of water in the falaj [canal] I knew something special is coming....... I woke up every morning with the jubilant songs of birds... The Omani coffee, Omani omelette and Lemon drink with ginger & honey was my favorites on the menu! Many hidden corners to read a book or just relax. I truly feel I was in heaven this weekend!Guest review byLizelSouth Africa - 8.0

It is advisable to use a 4WD vehicle to get to this point but skilled drivers may still be able to get there with a 2WD vehicle. The community in the area are peaceful, modest, and straight forward hence as the visitors, it is advised to honor their culture. Kindly do not litter in this area, as it is inhabited by various population of goats and looking after nature is important here.Guest review byRavindar Singh IUnited Arab Emirates - 10.0

First of all and most important that it’s not Fanjah but Wakan. The place is named as in fanjah on booking.com that confused me initially and misleads. Only after calling the facility directly and after their assurance that the facility is in Wakan we proceeded to book there. Wakan is a lovely mountain village that has a long ascending path that begins near the hotel & goes up to a view point. Highlight of our trip was apricot tree in full bloom! Rating I am giving in article 1 above is for WAKAN village and not for Fanjah.Guest review byWarithOman - 10.0

Traditional and very quite place in the middle of a small heritage village. Friendly and helpful staff. As a family of five, we had booked two rooms. One with bathroom, the other one had shared bathroom on the floor. All very clean and comfortable to use. Great old style Omani flair within the house. Definitely suitable for families and well located to have day trips around the area as there is plenty to see and all nearby. 24/7 access, however, check-in before 11pm recommended. We would have appreciated a breakfast included in our price.Guest review byOliverUnited Arab Emirates - 8.0

Misfah is a very interesting old village that is not easy to acess as it is built at the side of teh hill and only explorable on foot with a lot of stair climbing. It is worth it though. It is such a beautiful Oasis and it is preserved by its inhabitants. The history and the architecture is a site to seeGuest review byHesi2000Germany
