Lousã is a larger town than expected but not much in terms of things to do other than the schist villages nearby. You need a car to get around and you do need to plan ahead as restaurants do close between lunch and dinner. Also, most restaurants are not dog friendly and mainly only cafés have outdoor seating, so it's not an option to bring your dog to dinner. Unhais da Serra is a very small town.
Unhais da Serra is a very small town. It has one outstanding restaurant - As Thermas and another couple of ones that are good options as well. A couple of local shops that carry the delicious cheeses, charcuterie and liquors made in Serra da Estrela. We always stop to replenish or stock - we prefer the tiny mini-market, but the fancier shop has sweatshirts, slippers and interesting items as well. It's the perfect get-away for rest and relaxation. We park the car at the H2otel and do walking to everywhere we need to go over the weekend. I'd say a 3-4 night stay is ideal.Guest review byjennie0901Portugal - 10.0

The town has a history of an artist's retreat, with a museum and Malhoa, the most famous artist's, residence. It has historic medieval buildings in a cobblestreet old town center. There is a large Saturday market with a lot of variety. The hilly countryside is gorgeous and features Sao Simao River Beach for swimming and hiking. Lousã is a wonderful place for nature lovers. It has great trails for various the experienced as well as the less experienced hiker. Lots of streams and beautiful spots as well as breathtaking views to take in. The town itself is very quiet.
