- From US$98.80 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 491 reviewsThe receptionist was charming and spoke perfect English making Check-in and check-out seamless. The property is surrounded by miles of olive trees and grape vines as far as the eye can see. The location of the hotel is superb. Pre-dinner appetisers and free wine were taken by a roaring fire before moving to the restaurant for the main event. The main course and homemade dessert were again accompanied by free wine. Dinner was eaten in traditional Portuguese style, sharing a long table with other guests. Chatting with the other guests made dinner a perfect evening. Our room was spotlessly clean and the ensuite had free toiletries and a good supply of hot water. We had a good night's sleep on comfy beds and an excellent breakfast served at 9am with panoramic views of countryside. The wine was so good we ended up purchasing 12 bottles. We are so glad we chose to stay at Herdade du Vau instead of a miserable corporate hotel.Guest review byRodUnited Kingdom
- From US$98.80 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 269 reviewsA farm turned into a hotel in the countryside. Spacious, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast served in an abundant variety. Wonderful hosts, who do everything to make your stay the best experience ever. We arrived on the day of the black out and hosts did everything to help us in spite of lack of electricity. They provided candles and offered to serve us wine. There is an educational farm on the premises and the hosts are proud to show their collection of beautiful oldtimer cars. There is even a laundry service. After spending three nights at Monte Chalasa we felt we have great friends in Alentejo. We'd love to come back or even organize a family gathering. If you are looking for a peace and quiet with all the comfort, yet in the middle of nowhere, this is THE PLACE.Guest review byMarek from KrakowPoland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 148 reviewsThe welcome from reception and the support in sorting out our lunch and wine tasting. The service and quality of food in the restaurant was superb. The wine is also fabulous and we enjoyed our tour of the vineyard and our tasting experience. Such depth and variation from a young vineyard. The staff are all wonderful, knowledgable, enthusiastic and helpful. They clearly love their work and ensuring the guest experience is the best. The family who own and run the vineyard, hotel and restaurant seem totally committed to its success and are clearly very proud of their achievement. We met two members of the family who were genuinely interested to know we were having a great time.Guest review byPhilippaUnited Kingdom

When I decided to run in the early morning, I was followed by an adorable red dog that lives on the territory of the hotel. And this dog ran with me all 21 km. cheerfully and easily, after that we became friends with him. So, here even dogs help guests to have a good time!Guest review byRomanPortugal

The place is authentic and the castle perhaps the best in Portugal, not too big or overwhelming. Then there are the historic walls, a history lovers paradise. And don't forget the food, first rate. This is the "real" untouched Portugal.Guest review byIanCanada - 10.0

Interesting, authentic town/village, not touristy, but has plenty or restaurants. Many hikes and great bird watching, in the national park ,many rarities! 20 mins drive away is probably one of the best beaches in Portugal, on the Albufeira Tapada Grande if you like inland, quiet beaches.Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lovely city with an historic centre and a castle, the most beautiful botanical park, beautiful streets, plenty of restaurants, stores and a market, all walkable in minutes with confy shoes a lot of the floor is cobbles in the centre. We didnt fancy big meals so we ate at the Pizzaria Serpense near the park, delicious pizzas and other food at very good prices. But there are typical restaurants in the centre. In the summer there is always some music concert going on. Great for a couple of nights break.Guest review byAnaPortugal - 8.0

Almodóvar is a lovely village not too touristic, its rather a place where people live and also very close to Algarve. It has all amenities from health services to supermarkets, cinema, municipal pool and great restaurants and cafes with the delicious traditional costas and folhados de gila. It has a beautiful church and convent, a museum, a dam and a beautiful view point at the Ermida de St Amaro where there is always a lovely breeze. A great place for a few days of quiet time.Guest review byAnaPortugal - 6.0

A rather small industrial town. Some restaurants (most of those are closed) or opens after 18:00 but menu in English is a rarity. Best option is to visit supermarket and cook some dinner in the villa.Guest review byartulariLatvia - 10.0

On our journey, we had previously explored the Rio Tinto mines in Huelva, Spain. We discovered that Minas de São Domingos was exactly located at the other end of the 300 kilometer long mineral deposit belt! It was intriguing to explore the rows of mining houses that lined the quiet lanes of the small town. there was also a poignant mural putting a compassionate face on the difficult life of the miner. For anyone interested in mining history, staying in this village was a great pause. continue on to Rio Tinto to see the large and informative mining museum.Guest review bymuhammadUnited States - 10.0

Castro Verde is a great base for touring the southern Alentejo .The town is interesting in itself and has some good local restaurants and bars.It is easily reached from the motorway and nearby towns like Beja and Mertola are easily accessible as are a number of very good wine estates that are well worth a visit .Evora and the marble towns are further afield but still within reach, as is the Aquelva reservoir.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Beja is a wonderful city with the modern juxtaposed with the very old. It is nice to walk the old curving narrow streets of the old part of the city. The people make it great as they are open, warm and gracious. Many people speak English.Guest review byAnonymous
