I recently stayed at this newly built hotel located in the very center of Porto, and it was an excellent experience overall. The hotel boasts a great designer interior, where it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into every detail of the decor. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating, always going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. Their attentiveness truly made a difference. The location is perfect for exploring Porto’s main attractions on foot. The hotel also features a nice restaurant with a delightful menu, as well as a large indoor pool—ideal for unwinding after a day of sightseeing. If you're looking for a stylish stay with excellent amenities and a prime location, this hotel is a great choice!

FAQs about hotels in Norte Region

The Essence of Portugal

With fabulous beaches stretching from Caminha by the Spanish border to just south of Espinho, Portugal’s Norte region is known for beautiful scenery and historic cities.

Most Norte hotels on Booking.com are in its UNESCO World Heritage-listed capital Porto (or Oporto). Attractively spread over hills, it has wine cellars storing port from the Douro River Valley vineyards upstream.

Voted one of Portugal’s most liveable cities, Vila Real has the Mateus house overlooking a peaceful pond. Guimarães boasts a UNESCO World Heritage-listed historical centre and is known as the ‘birthplace of the Portugal’. Its stately castle and the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança are well worth a visit.

Bragança itself is by Montesinho Natural Park in north-east Norte, and a keep remains from its former castle. Chaves also has a castle keep and a Roman stone bridge, but unlike Braga, it no longer has remains of its Roman baths, erected over hot springs. Braga’s crowning glory is the Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary, set high in hills, with a wonderful staircase and garden overlooking the city.

South of Galicia is the beautiful Peneda-Gerês area, Portugal’s only national park, and to its west is Viana do Castelo with its Norte beach hotels set on Blue Flag beaches. Also noteworthy is impressive Basilica de Santa Luzia, surveying the riverfront town below.

We had a very short stay, however during this time we had experienced some services. First of all, the house was immaculate clean. It really has everything you might need, the kitchen is very well equipped. The attention to details is amazing: even cutlery and other kitchen supplies drawer were strategically placed to look perfect. The restaurant offers a good variety of dishes, the portions are rather big and the price is very reasonable. But the most important - everything we tried was delicious and the service was great! We asked to deliver breakfast to our room which was very convenient and it was also delicious. The spa was quite good, including hammam, sauna and a very relaxing massage. They require to use swimming hats and slippers, however it’s possible to get it at the reception in case you don’t have any. And the most important: the staff were very sweet. They contacted me after my booking was made to ask if we would like to come a bit earlier, because the house was empty. Also they booked massage and restaurant in advance before our arrival. Everybody was helpful, friendly but also very professional. I really would like to come back to this place again, it has a quite unique feeling: you experience high quality yet you sense home.

The bed was extremely comfortable, providing a perfect night's sleep, and the spa facilities were top-notch, offering a truly relaxing retreat. The breakfast was delicious, with a variety of options to suit all tastes. Additionally, the proximity to local wineries was a fantastic bonus. The wines we tasted were exceptional, adding to the overall charm of our stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any requests and ensure we had a pleasant stay.I highly recommend Sin Sexes Hotel for anyone looking for a luxurious and serene getaway in Douro. Vidago Palace Hotel has exceeded all my expectations - everything was perfect and I am delighted for having experienced it! The building is absolutely stunning and that was the reason we visited. But that will no longer be the only reason why we'll return - and we will return! From the housekeeping, to the restaurant(s), bar, pool(s), spa, valet or front-desk staff, everyone offers you an exceptional service. They're all very attentive and kind. The grounds of the hotel are neatly kept, with attention to every detail. The "Salāo Nobre" restaurant, the breakfast room, the entrance staircase, the overall décor, the little lake and island, and the excellency in service, transport you to what we can only imagine to what must have been to live in a luxurious place during the Belle Époque.

I visited Porto toward the end of October, hoping for a bit of late summer sun, and for the first couple of days I couldn't have been more pleased, but unfortunately this was followed by several days of rain, which slightly spoiled the stay. On the plus side, Porto is a very attractive city, which lends itself to long gentle strolls interspersed with regular stops at the numerous bars, restaurants or coffee shops. As a city its very hilly, which for me, combined with the heat and humidity made getting about on foot quite tiring after the first couple of days, There are trams, funiculars and a metro system to help you get from A-B, but the Uber taxis are so cheap in Porto, that quickly became my preferred option if my legs were feeling tired or the weather was too wet. In terms of weather proof options, there are lots of museums and galleries, as well as historic buildings and parks, the central market and rivers side market, but there can be a lot of walking between them. That said, the Port Wine Makers tours are well worth a go, but can be a bit boozy. While the 1 hour river boat tours are good fun if a little bit short. The restaurants and bars are endless, and the food generally excellent both for quality and value for money. I would happily return to Porto another time to investigate more, but perhaps a little earlier in the season to be more sure of the weather.

A small city north of Porto, with a lot of history and attractions. Plenty of shops, cafes, old churches, and restaurants, but the bar scene is lacking. There are many senior citizens here, since it's one of the more affordable and lovable parts of Portugal. I like kebab restaurants, but otherwise cooked for myself in hostel kitchens.

Intertesting port town with a huge monastery on top of a hill. Loved the restaurants and it is easy to drive to other areas of Northern Portugal from there. The weather was comfortable, too. Be sure to bring Euros for tram ride to monastery. We went there to rest and relax between our Spain and Portugal tours.

This small city was an absolute gem - stunning ancient squares and streets filled with lovely cafes and restaurants, altogether not as touristy as it could have been and very easy to walk around. We dined in two of the main squares with traditional Portuguese cuisine and inexpensive wines, and lovely ice cream outlets. We took the cablecar up the hillside and walked back down. We visited the Ducal palace (fantastic reconstruction) and castle (ruin). We could easily have spent a week here relaxing and taking in the atmosphere. And very easy to reach from Oporto.

Matosinhos is a good place to visit if you want a vibrant neighbourhood near the sea. It’s not an holiday resort people live there it’s the type of place we like visiting. Beach at Esposende too difficult to swim in due to pepples. Other beaches at Ofir and Apulia excellent. Limited supply of restaurants and limitless supply of banks!!! Surprised by the obvious wealth amongst the Portuguese people with holiday homes here. Very few estrangers. Not for sailors. Good for families. Some surprising sculptures dotted around the esplanade from 1997 one in particular near the San Lorenca fort at Esponsende.

This place gets a well-deserved 5 stars—no doubt about it!

This place gets a well-deserved 5 stars—no doubt about it! From the moment we walked in, it felt warm, cozy, and totally like home. It’s huge, sparkling clean, and honestly… it looks even better than in the photos (and that’s saying something!). Usually with apartments that look this good, you think: “Yeah right, too good to be true.” But nope—this one actually turned out to be better than too good! It’s got everything. And I mean everything: coffee machine, iron, washing machine, dishwasher… you name it, it’s there—and all in tip-top shape. We were just the two of us, but there’s more than enough space for 4 or even 6 people to hang out comfortably. And the view… wow. Just wow. Need a room with a view? Look no further—this is the one!

Vila do Conde is a charming town that is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of a large city, if that is what you are used to, or looking to get away from. There are many good restaurants in the area. We hired a car for the duration of our stay as we wanted to travel further afield whilst adding stops along the way and choosing the most scenic routes.
