Wonderful Stay – A Truly Memorable Experience

We recently stayed at Pestana Sintra Golf Resort and had the most amazing experience from start to finish. As a family with two boys (ages 7 and 8), we were absolutely delighted with every aspect of our stay.
The food and drinks were excellent, and the entire staff was incredibly polite, professional, and always greeted us with a warm smile. Everyone was kind, helpful, and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay.
Our room was spotlessly clean, thanks to the wonderful housekeeping team. The hotel interiors carried a beautiful scent that reminded us of Portugal, something we will cherish and remember for a lifetime.
Everything was perfectly organized and delivered exactly as agreed.
We especially appreciated the availability of two outdoor pools (0.40m and 1.40m depth), both clean and well-maintained, and the indoor pool, SPA, sauna, and gym facilities were just what we needed for full relaxation and recreation.
We highly and warmly recommend this hotel to guests of all ages. Whether you're traveling as a couple, with friends, or with family, Pestana Sintra offers comfort, warmth, and top-tier service.

The historic building and furnishings were beautiful and inviting. The staff were very attentive and friendly. They were also able to provide information about the town and area that is not easily found because most of the staff live nearby but also have been working for the hotel for decades. The room was magical, with a balcony overlooking the ravine and at least 2 castles. The experience was surreal.

The location is fabulous, the Palace is full with history. Very comfortable room, nr 7. The staff from reception, restaurant, housekeeping and management were exceptional. Very friendly, helpful and did everything to make our stay as good as possible. The restaurant served excellent food. Very comfortable bed.

We stayed for one day, so we only visited Pena Palace and...
We stayed for one day, so we only visited Pena Palace and the historic town. If you want to visit more of the castles, I would suggest staying for 2 days to have enough time to explore! Also, make sure to allow yourself enough time to get to the top of the mountain where the entrance to Pena Palace is, and get there in time for your time slot. It was a longer drive up (winding road) than we expected (by Uber), and it was packed with buses, tourists, tuktuk's and taxis... even at the end of October! We had dinner at Café Paris and enjoyed our food!

Good beaches and amenities within walking distance. Handy to Sintra, surrounding areas and Lisbon, particularly if you have a car, but public transport options were available too.
Colares was relatively quiet compared to Sintra and it was great to escape the hustle and bustle. It a beautiful location, set amongst the tress and tends to be a little cooler than Lisbon, so was a very comfortable temperature, even in the height of summer.

Terrugem is a great base if you have a car, with Cascais...
Terrugem is a great base if you have a car, with Cascais just 25 minutes away, Lisbon 30 minutes, and Sintra only 20 minutes. For those without a car, Bolt taxis are very affordable and easy to use. Nazaré is about 1.5 hours away, and on the way, it is well worth stopping at Óbidos, which is a beautiful historic town.
A general note about Portugal: the people are very friendly and welcoming. Driving here was also a pleasure – roads were good, traffic was manageable, and drivers were respectful of the rules.

If you're reasonably fit and you get good weather, don't miss the walk up to the Moorish Castle and then on to the Pena Palace; though you need to book the latter and there are many many people there.
The National Palace in Sintra is also good.

This location was great.
This location was great. You can choose to stay in the town and enjoy the beach, restaurants, etc or venture to other nearby attractions like Praia Grande & Arribas Saltwater Pool, Azenhas do Mar pool, or take the trolly (or drive) to Sintra and other towns in the area.
My young kids and I enjoyed going to the beach around sunset/low tide to walk the beach, enjoy the small pools of water, etc.

Sintra has been spoilt by the amount of tourists there.
Sintra has been spoilt by the amount of tourists there. Cruise boats dock in Lisbon and then bus people up to Sintra. Coaches arrive from 8.30 am and you have to fight your way along the pavements against the hoards of people who have only an hour or so to see "everything"
As a result of this ready supply of people on a daily basis everything is expensive.
