- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 84 reviewsIf I can give one piece of advice, book for as long as you can, you will not regret it. Whether it is to move between the hammocks and the pool, to walk and explore the mountains or use it as a base to explore nearby attractions you will feel like you are in a little piece of heaven here. In four days not a single car drove past and my only companions were the distant sheep bells and occasional shepherd meandering by. The house itself is incredibly designed, the value for money is exceptional and Ana is such a kind and eager host if you need anything. If you are looking for a country escape, this is it!Guest review bymarkSouth Africa
- From US$266.67 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 36 reviewsAbsolutely perfect! The house is so beautiful and comfortable! The front of the house is all in glass, with a breathtaking panoramic view! I's so cosy and all the details made us felt so welcomed. Every bedroom had its own bath, the beds were super comfortable. You have stunning views from every room. There was a lot of space. Outside, the house has an amazing private terrace, so comfortable to relax and enjoy the view! The sense of peace we feel there is unique. Irene is an excellent hostess and made us feel so welcome! We loved everything and we want to come back!Guest review byTeresaPortugal
- From US$110.15 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 910 reviewsThis was my favorite place to stay in all of Portugal - I couldn't recommend it more! It is in such a beautiful location. The owner was so kind and helpful and welcoming. The wine they make is fantastic - again perhaps my favorite in all of Portugal! The whole facility was wonderful to explore and spend time in even in the winter months. The room had a full kitchen and everything I needed; it was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was truly a fantastic stay. I hope to come back one day, and I will recommend it to anyone I know who is in Portugal!Guest review byAndeUnited States Minor Outlying Islands
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 125 reviewsThe idyllic peaceful rural location on a working farm with sheep with bells. Jose was a delightful host and the breakfasts were excellent. Our room was spacious and the traditional stone building was nice and cool and the pool was great for cooling off. The bed was very comfortable. There were some nice restaurants about half an hour's walk away and nearby Marvao is well worth a visit. We spent 4 nights here and enjoyed it very much. It is great if you are looking for peace and quiet.Guest review byBarbaraUnited Kingdom
- From US$93.34 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 436 reviewsA beautiful little cottage tucked away in the medieval village of Marvao. There's a castle right next door and the village itself is fun to wander around in. The owner of the hotel was friendly and gracious, and the room was perfect. It felt like I was staying in a distant relative's home and not a hotel. Also, the breakfast was incredible. Definitely sign up for breakfast.Guest review byChetUnited States

The assisting waiter in the restaurant was very attentive & professional. Excellent food & many choices were available. The Chef came to each table after dinner to talk to the customers & explained how he prepared the food. That was something. Well done!!Guest review byDandySlovakia

This area is good for many side trips.
This area is good for many side trips. I would recommend visiting Marváo in the morning; then Cascata Trail de Marvão in the afternoon with a little side trip to Espanha (while in the area). I would also suggest a visit to the Museu da Tapeçaria de Portalegre - Guy Fino and having dinner in Castelo de Vide.Guest review byJulie LUnited States - 6.0

Not much in the town itself except for the unique tapestry museum - a must see. And an outstanding restaurant on the far southern (?) edge of town. There are easy excursions to two nearby castle towns well worth seeing.Guest review byTimothyUnited States - 10.0

Castelo de Vide is a charming and peaceful hilltop town full of history and character. With its medieval castle, cobbled streets, and beautifully preserved Jewish quarter, it feels like stepping back in time. The views over the Alentejo hills are breathtaking, and the atmosphere is calm and welcoming. It’s the perfect destination for a quiet getaway, surrounded by nature, culture, and authentic Portuguese charm. Ideal for slow travel and those looking to unwind in a truly special place.Guest review byLuisMGLDSpain - 10.0

Marvao was very picturesque, our vacation rental was the prettiest little property with lost of outdoor sitting areas, a small brook with rushing water and greenery all around, The birds, especially the nightingales were plenty and singing, and the sparrows were building their nests everywhere.Guest review byElzingaNetherlands - 8.0

Marvão is a small village high on a mountain, with a view that's enough to make you climb. It's a shame there aren't more entertainment, restaurants, and bakeries that would allow you to spend more time in the village. The castle is worth a visit.Guest review byOrlandoJRPortugal - 10.0

Portalegre is a Perfect Place because it’s in such a great zone. You can visit so many other city’s and towns from there. Especially Marvão and Castelo de Vide. And you have everything you need in portalegre. Also they have great restaurants with typical Food of Alentejo!Guest review byA. - 10.0

Castelo de Vide is a charming ancient town with plenty to do and see, both in the town and in the surrounding countryside. The town itself is quite lively, with great cafes and restaurants offering local specialty dishes. The narrow cobbled streets run up to the castle at the top of the hill, where there is a walled medieval village. The views from here are stunning! The Jewish quarter is interesting, and the little museum at the synagogue is free to visit from Tuesdays - Sundays (closed on Mondays). The countryside around Castelo de Vide teems with ancient megalithic sites including antas, dolmens and menhirs. Nearby the menhir of Meada is one of the (if not the) oldest and tallest in the world and is well worth a visit.Guest review byHelenPortugal - 10.0

It's worth the drive from Lisbon, though I must admit it is quite a long drive. But the place is a surprise, a hidden gem, that needs to be experienced. A 2-night stay in this charming medieval village is the minimum. As a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, I do not mind staying here for a week!Guest review byiWillTravelMorePortugal - 8.0

We were here for a residency interview with SEF, the immigration agency. We didn't stay long enough to have a big opinion, but the place we stayed was nice, and we had a great vegan meal at Hokkaido, a restaurant in town. We parked right by the castle. The churches were beautiful too.Guest review bySaraPortugal - 8.0

We had low clouds and rain both days at Castelo, so we could not do what was planned: to walk in the national park. After seeing the nice ladies in the tourism office we tried the church and its exhibition - good enough for a rainy day. We walked to the castle and the fort and enjoyed the view the first day, there were low-hanging clouds resulting in dense fog on the second day. A few shops amused the ladies while walking around in the rain. There are several restaurants, pubs, etc. in the center. Because of the weather, we opted for a taxi tour to Marvao (less than 20EUR one way) but the town was in very dense fog. We ate at a tapas bar the first evening and in Marvao the second evening. We suspect the tapas bar food gave three of us food poisoning.Guest review byRaffiusBelgium
