FAQs about hotels on Koh Samui
Palm Trees and Pristine Seas
One of Thailand’s most famous islands, Koh Samui (or Ko Samui) is a tropical paradise whose palm trees emerge from the pristine white sands at unbelievable angles, and whose offshore reefs make for great diving.
The most developed resort is Chaweng, though most bars and clubs are set back from the beautiful beach, so the views are still wonderful. Slightly less lively is Lamai, though its beach is no less impressive. Both of these resorts are home to a large number of Koh Samui hotels with private pools, a popular requirement of many visitors, despite the wonderfully warm waters.
Lipa Noi in the west faces Thailand’s east coast and has some beautiful sunsets, while the northern fishing village of Bo Phut is gaining in popularity. Nearby Mae Nam and Cheong Mon both have sweeping beaches that gently shelve into the sea, making them popular family choices.
Travellers don't go tot Koh Samui for its sights – but interesting attractions include the Big Buddha at Bangrak’s Wat Phra Yai temple, and the Wat Khunaram Ko Samui temple inland from Hua Thanon.
As well as a great range of apartments, resorts and villas, Booking.com also has Koh Samui hotel deals to help you get the most for your money on this beautiful island.

- From US$680.41 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 436 reviewsWe recently had the pleasure of staying at Banyan Tree Koh Samui, and the experience was nothing short of MAGICAL. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in a world of unparalleled luxury and tranquility. The resort's setting is nothing less than breathtaking, perched on a hillside overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The private villas are like hidden gems, nestled amidst lush greenery, offering stunning views and a sense of complete seclusion. The attention to detail in the villa's design and amenities is truly impressive. Every aspect of the room exudes elegance, from the spacious layout to the thoughtful touches like the outdoor bathtub and the heavenly comfortable bed. The staff at Banyan Tree Koh Samui are the epitome of hospitality. Our host GIGI, "the magician" was we used to call her, would make sure that EVERY wish and request were fulfilled with the utmost urgency and care. Their warmth and genuine care (Jed, Eng, Gig, Stramp, etc) create an atmosphere that feels like home, albeit a home in paradise. The personalized service, from the friendly greetings to the meticulous housekeeping, exceeded my expectations at every turn. Dining at the resort is a culinary journey in itself. We had an amazing dinner experience at Saffron. Banyan Tree Koh Samui goes beyond being a luxurious resort; it's a holistic sanctuary for the senses. The backdrop of the ocean breeze and the soothing sounds of nature, are a transcendental experience. It's not just a stay; it's a rejuvenating escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The resort's commitment to excellence, paired with its idyllic location and exceptional service, creates a haven for those seeking an unforgettable retreat. I wholeheartedly recommend it.Guest review byHugoSwitzerland
- From US$204.13 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 567 reviewsThe resort was phenomenal. Everything exceeded our expectations from the room to the breakfast to the service. We booked the sea facing villa which had a huge bedroom, opens to the private pool and overlooks the sea. The bedroom and bathroom were very spacious (the bath had 2 standing showers and 1 bath tub) and even the private pool was pretty huge. The facility is in great condition and everything worked fine. The breakfast was very grand and had a lot of options. We were greeted with welcome drinks and since we were on our honeymoon, we got complementary cake and decor for the room. We couldn't do a dinner at the beach (needs to be booked separately) so they were kind enough to setup a table in our villa. Overall a great experience with friendly staff and amazing views.Guest review byAsad Jamil SiddiquiPakistan
- From US$731.20 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 341 reviewsWhat a lovely stay we had! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive to every need, making our experience even more enjoyable. The views were absolutely stunning, and the resort offered plenty of spots to relax and unwind. Booking spa treatments, making reservations, and accessing facilities was effortless through the app. Breakfast: A fantastic selection of healthy options! The chef was flexible and happy to customize dishes to our preferences, with plenty of gluten- and dairy-free choices available. We truly appreciate the Six Senses philosophy and will definitely be exploring more of their hotels in the future!Guest review byDovileLithuania
- From US$402 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 874 reviewsWhat a piece of paradise on Koh Samui, we had a fantastic stay at this exceptional and tranquil resort. We stayed there a week with our 10 month old daughter, and couldn't have picked a better place. The location, the facilities, the pool, the breakfast, the beach - everything was great. We do also want to give a special mention to the incredibly friendly staff including Oom, Mam, James, An, Noom, Pang to just mention a few. They were extremely service minded and also took great care of our daughter. Would love to come back to Sala Samui, and this comes from a couple who never goes back to the same place twice!Guest review byChristianSweden

Exotic, elegant, calm mood of resort was very impressive. All staff was kind and made us feel comfortable. Especially, room interior and public pool+beach design, food is the best! Even though the resort was full of tropical rain forest, we could hardly find mosquitoes due to high quality managing system. If you have to choose only one resort in Koh Samui, I can say this place is the answer.Guest review byYoon YongSouth Korea

Stayed on the beach and didn't venture in to the town of Chaweng, or the high street, didn't need to. A mix of resorts and hotels on the beach, from 5* to 3*, all offering great locations, food and friendly service. Some were child friendly, and very shallow waters safe for kids or non swimmers. Some hotels were adults only. It's been 10 years since I last visited and it's better than I remembered.Guest review byVictoriaCyprus - 8.0

Love Silver Beach, garden was glorious at Promsuk Suri, but staff rather miserable, no customer care. Couldn’t even offer us a clean towel when changing prior to our flight we had to use a wet sandy towel from the beach!! I guess we were lucky that we had a shower we could use as we had already checked out and had a late flight.Guest review byPrudenceAustralia - 10.0

The Fisherman's Village was fantastic. No car or scooter access at night made for lovely walks along the street, seeing the markets and bars and restaurants in relative peace. Plus none of the typical sleazy Thai bars/clubs.Guest review byChrisAustralia - 10.0

Beautiful smallish beach Nice to Walk to the end and to the cape fahn on separate private island - we went in the water was pretty clean little murky but probably was just the day and the fact that there are so many hotels on the islandGuest review bydeborahItaly - 10.0
This is a great tourist destination.
This is a great tourist destination. Glad we went during the low-season as it made for small, tolerable crowds. Plenty of activities and sights to do and see - we only brushed the surface with our short time there. Go for at least one week. Two would be better. The surrounding Gulf of Thailand offered lake-like calm, turquoise waters. Views everywhere are stunning. We Weill have to return again in the future. Highly recommend, especially the low-season.Guest review byLorentzUnited States - 10.0

There are only two bungalows facing the beach and they are AMAZING!! We did not want to leave our hotel. Some of the other rooms looked nice too but faced the garden walkway. One bungalow faced a concrete wall. You get what you pay for. Loved this place so much.Guest review bynhan - 8.0

Very friendly people and going to a night market is a great experience! Traveling across the island is easy but it may get a bit costly if you have to take a van for 6 or 8 people. Beaches on the east side are nice but busy. Beaches on the west are less crowded but may get narrow and untidy due to the tides. Overall we were missing the very long beaches with plenty of palm trees and powder-soft sand. Worth a visit are higher areas of the island in middle, e.g. Dee's Chilling Hill restaurant. Also going to the Ang Thong Marine park is very nice.Guest review byHans ErichGermany - 10.0
Chaweng Noi Beach was one of my favorite spots on Koh Samui.
Chaweng Noi Beach was one of my favorite spots on Koh Samui. It’s incredibly beautiful — soft white sand, calm turquoise water, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels like a little escape from the busier parts of the island. I loved how quiet and relaxed it was, perfect for swimming or just lying under the sun. The view with the green hills around was stunning. That said, it’s not the best during low tide — the rocks and coral can make it tricky to get in the water. Also, there’s not much going on nearby in terms of shops or nightlife, and some areas can get a bit pricey because of the luxury resorts. Still, for a calm beach day with amazing views, I’d go back in a heartbeat.Guest review byAlex PKazakhstan - 10.0

Loved our room! It was very spacious, clean & comfortable. The bed and pillows met our expectations. The pool was huge! Great for children or grown ups. A very ambient, quiet resort set on the beach front. The beach chairs are very comfortable and the best place to chill with a book or take in the amazing views. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The location is very peaceful and we ordered a taxi or grab to go to dinner in the evening. We had drinks at the Hotel pub one evening. Overall a great stay & value for the rates. The breakfast was sufficient …eggs and fresh fruit/toast/pastries. Handy if you have a motor bike to get around the Island as grab is expensive. .Guest review byAnonymous
