Absolutely amazing staff from the reception all the way to the waiters even the pool boys coz yes you have your very own private pool outside your hotel villa. These guys went out of their way ensuring my wife and I spent our 15 year wedding anniversary and my 39th birthday at its best. No words to describe how eager they were to assist I making our stay a warm one.

We had a lovely stay at African Bungalows in Nungwi! The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and it was great to see the owner around, always making sure everything was just right. The breakfast was excellent—fresh, delicious, and with something new to enjoy every day. The serene atmosphere made it feel like an oasis in the middle of Nungwi, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. We absolutely loved our time here and would happily come back for another stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a tranquil and memorable Nungwi getaway!

Very nice and super clean hotel. Perfect for families or to relax in very quite place. The pool is a highlight. The manager and all staff are very friendly and helpfull. I liked also the breakfast. The best I liked is that there is no noise around the hotel. The beach is in few minutes walking distance. The center of the village is 3 min by motorbike taxi (app. 1 Euro).

    food was absolutely exceptional. Kai, the Chef is really amazing. it was as if, everyday, we were invited in a "gastronomique restaurant", buffets were gorgeous, different each day, very delicate and tasty. He is really exceptional, and we did not expect such a wonderful food experience. staff is friendly, helpful, thanks to the General Manager , Tuan , who is everywhere and always there to make our stay an incredible experience. He has been very attentive to us all the time during our stay, as well as Anthony, his F&B manager. good singers in the evening, during dinner. although the hotel has 76 rooms, the staff makes you feel "at home" with a very personal and professional approach. Aisha at the reception was of great help. beach is very beautiful, you can swim there, unlike in the East Coast where we stayed before. see is "turquoise". there are plenty of room and deck chairs for everyone to rest , we did not use the swimming pool as we prefer to take advantage of the sea , but it is very large. we hope to be back in this wonderful place, where we stayed only 3 nights, it was not enough to enjoy the place, and the marvellous huge beach of white sand . (if you like to walk, turn left, you will see a small and charming "port" and the sea is more "turquoise" than in any other place.

    When I arrived received a good welcome.. Hotel Is very lovely and it's really big and clean.. The compound is well kept neat and its easy to get around. My room was Fantastic. I loved it. My bed really Comfortable. I had tea in my room.My room was well equipped. The balcony very relaxing place. NICe breeze and view. .The Food was very different . Alot to choose from.alot.of different types of food. Really tasty..Lekker..They were different types of salad. . Very good desserts and very many fruits. The staff were always smiling and very friendly. The Hotel is very clean. Very nice clean big pool. The beach is also clean.. Oh it was all so Good. Everything was very Good . I enjoyed My Stay.. it was A ROYAL stay.

Dinner is also a wide range of cuisine to choose from and different every night...! The food is just fantastic...! The front desk staff...Khalid and Flora are very professional and would do anything to accommodate your needs, the restaurant and kitchen staff are extremely nice and very friendly...Our three Boys really enjoyed the attention from all the staff. The Hotel Manager very helpful and not forgetting Big Ben...very professional and very helpful and both Manager and Big Ben made sure we had everything we requested...! Thank you ALL...!

    The resort is wonderful, the cottages and tropical gardens look so beautiful and well-kept. The rooms are large, clean and very comfortable. I had half board and I can say that the food was very diverse and every evening there was a themed dinner and something new compared to the previous days. Very tasty food, many types of meat, fish, vegetables, pasta. Private and well-guarded beach with fine sand and turquoise water. I'm sorry to leave, but I will definitely come back here.     The vibes are great — everything you need is nearby, including shops, restaurants, and tour offices. Restaurants on the beach tend to be a bit pricey, but if you take a short walk into the side streets, you’ll find places offering the same quality food at much more reasonable prices. What I didn’t like were the beach boys — they’re nice and friendly, but can be a bit annoying as they keep trying to sell things. They’re not too pushy, but it’s hard to relax when someone approaches you every couple of minutes. The only time you can truly enjoy some peace is early in the morning. Important note : you have to strongly negotiate the prices and people are very nice and easy going Try to learn few words from their language they will be super happy :)

    Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

    Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

    The sea and beach with super soft and white sand are absolutely fabulous and relatively clean. I got bitten by sand fleas on my legs because I spend a lot of time in the sea and walked barefoot. There is a lot of informal trade on the beach by locals trying to sell something. Maybe even more so if you are a woman walking alone.

    Generally, a lovely and intimate establishment with staff that care for your personal needs. The manager is so friendly and always wants to know how the guests are doing. The most beautiful sunrises. The performances add to the spice. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

    Many restaurants and beach bars , next to Badolina Bungalows . Good prices and good food at Baraka restaurant and Nanasi restaurant. And , also , at Zava restaurant. For excursions I recommend Yussufu , very nice guy and good prices .

    Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.

    The location is great, just a minute from the ocean, there are a lot restaurants both expensive and very local ones, no issues with electricity, hot shower and air-con and the safe box. Card and cash payment is acceptable. Very safe to stay and walk around even at night, the owner is very kind and trustworthy. Very basic breakfast but it OK, no TV and fridge in the room, internet is breaking so often especially in the room, but it works perfectly at the balcony. It is very budget friendly and highly recommend it.

    The nearby beaches are scenic, but there are some important things to consider. The ocean is full of sea urchins, making swimming risky without proper footwear. During the day, low tide pulls the water far from the shore, so swimming may not always be possible. If you walk toward the reef, expect to be approached frequently by local beach vendors, which can feel intrusive — especially when you're clearly not carrying money. Local security presence is minimal, so don't expect much intervention in these situations. It's best to come prepared and manage your expectations if you're looking for a peaceful swim.

    Truly enjoyed the pristine beach and the laid back nature of the place. Totally enjoyed several meals at Fish Restaurant which were absolutely delicious. I tried Kingfish, Changu, Perch, White Snapper, Prawns etc. The seafood was phenomenal. We also enjoyed seeing the turtles and the artwork at several curio shops. Also enjoyed an early morning boat ride seeing the dolphins. I can't believe how fast time went by. Looking forward to visiting Zanzibar again.

    The snorkeling was a true adventure, with well-protected marine life and crystal-clear water. Spotting the dolphins was an unexpected bonus! Visiting the sea turtle rehabilitation center and feeding them was a special experience.
