We spent 9 magical nights at the place and it was amazing.african bungalows is more than a hotel ,it's a family place where the staff and the owners really take care of you.from the moment we booked we were kept in constant contact / communication with the owners about whether we required shuttle from and back to the airport which we accepted.they also advised about all the activities we could do.upon arrival we realized we were in heaven with the beautiful palm trees and stunning pool.we met the turkish owners who are brothers and Mai who checked us in easily.the hotel has its own restaurant and the food is divine.they also have nightly events and dinners. Really enjoyed the BBQ dinners.the rooms are big with fridge , showers , hair dryer for the ladies , daily shampoo and soaps.tea /coffee and drinking water is complimentary daily. We enjoyed the daily breakfasts as well.the place is literally a minute walk to the main nungwi beach and about 20 minutes walk to kendwa beach. There are many places to swim. It is very safe during the day and at night to walk about with many restaurants situated around it. Mai arranged one of the dolphin tours to mnemba Island which we enjoyed and came with us as well. The tumbatu Island is also close for snorkelling with boat.we also did the nakupenda , prison island and stone town tour. The nungwi turtle sanctuary is about a ten minute walk.we enjoyed swimming with the dolphins and turtles. This is a new hotel and it catered to our every needs. All the staff were friendly and we really enjoyed our stay here.we will definitely be back. We are missing the crystal clear turqoise waters now.also missing those 2 cute cats.

Very good breakfast selection with fresh fruits and juice. If we ever return to Zanzibar we'd definitely choose this hotel again. Right on the beach, very secure, superb swimming pool, with the best restaurant in the area. The staff is always smiling and friendly. Everything was spotless clean.     Absolutely fantastic holiday! The hotel is very nice, located right by the sea almost in the middle of the village of Matemwe. Very nice rooms, including a great outdoor shower! Thorough, careful and perfect cleaning twice a day. The hotel staff was very nice and everyone did everything they could to make us feel at home. I would like to highlight the following fantastic people: Sauli, Rakim, Charles, Atosha, Emmanuel & Rajab!!! The hotel has a very good pool and great sunbeds overlooking the ocean and reef. There is security at night, everything is absolutely safe, tidy and clean! The restaurant always perfectly prepared and ready to fulfill all your wishes. Nicely landscaped garden, air conditioning in the room fully functional, mosquito nets and mosquito sprays as a bonus. Breakfast simple but very delicious! Great coffee and fresh fruits! Free towels at the pool. Thank you for the unforgettable moments, for the beautiful farewell dinner and the endless football games of Aron and Rajab! We miss you!!

    We really enjoyed our stay in Kendwa and definitely we will be back. The staff is amazing, super polite, respectful, good information from the reception from the day we arrived. The sea is absolutely amazing tho a bit wavy but nothing special or for concern. We stayed on the Bungalows and it’s close to everything. The beach is full of beds and you have as well the service button which is amazing you can eat and enjoy the beach at the same time. There is 8 bars so you have plenty to chose and you always have some entertainment. Even if you have kids it’s the perfect place they never get bored. There is a lot of water sports and as well Sky diving that I recommend if you have the courage to do it. Right outside of the hotel you have a few restaurants and a small supermarket in case you need. Every month they have the Full Moon Party that is super cool and if you have the chance try because it is worth.

    Special thank you to Mr. Jabili at the desk and all the staff. We arrived around 9am, the staff welcomed us for a drink, we were able to have breakfast instead of the last day (breakfast was included in our room) which was highly appreciated after a long trip. We were able to check in early and the room was just beyond our imagination: it was perfect overlooking the ocean. It was perfect for the sunsets too. Additionally, the staff welcomed us also with a bottle of prosecco which tasted great. During the stay, staff were very nice. We also took a spa and at times it felt as there were 4 hands working on my back. She was good. Swimming pool, direct access to the beach was wonderful. It is not noisy, yet you have everything at walking distance.. Simply the best hotel on the beach in zanzibar.

    From the first moment we entered Zuri it was perfect. This hotel guarantees perfect relaxation and high quality service from A to Z. We were really charmed by the place. Whether it was the spacious and stylish rooms, the highly professional staff, the high class gastronomy to the point of I would say fine dining cuisine or the private beach right by the Indian Ocean or the swimming pool where one could perfectly relax at any time of the day. There is really nothing in Zuri that is not an experience. If one has the opportunity to come to this hotel one should definitely do it because you will not find a better hotel in Zanzibar, and I dare say not even far and wide.

    The view of the beach from the pole, how welcoming the staff and everyone was and the fact that they had security guards 24/7 at the premises was amazing the food option kept changing each day and I must say the chef is really good cause all the food options tasted so good and I’m not even exaggerating 😅. Very nice hotel I’d recommend this to anyone which I have already done to 4people who are planing to go there soon, we didn’t want to leave but however had to leave 3dats earlier than our check out date due to unforeseen circumstances.

    Just pick the right room. You get what you pay for. Some of the rooms have the best views in nungwi. Staff were excellent, always smiling and happy to help. Early check in and late checkout, I just asked nicely :) Nice big pool, which is always nice to chill and with speedy service from the the adjacent bar. The hotel is located on the best beach so the choice is yours. Excellent location.

What I didn’t like were the beach boys — they’re nice and friendly, but can be a bit annoying as they keep trying to sell things. They’re not too pushy, but it’s hard to relax when someone approaches you every couple of minutes. The only time you can truly enjoy some peace is early in the morning. Important note : you have to strongly negotiate the prices and people are very nice and easy going Try to learn few words from their language they will be super happy :)

    Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

    Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

    The sea and beach with super soft and white sand are absolutely fabulous and relatively clean. I got bitten by sand fleas on my legs because I spend a lot of time in the sea and walked barefoot. There is a lot of informal trade on the beach by locals trying to sell something. Maybe even more so if you are a woman walking alone.

    Generally, a lovely and intimate establishment with staff that care for your personal needs. The manager is so friendly and always wants to know how the guests are doing. The most beautiful sunrises. The performances add to the spice. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

    Many restaurants and beach bars , next to Badolina Bungalows . Good prices and good food at Baraka restaurant and Nanasi restaurant. And , also , at Zava restaurant. For excursions I recommend Yussufu , very nice guy and good prices .

    Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.

    The location is great, just a minute from the ocean, there are a lot restaurants both expensive and very local ones, no issues with electricity, hot shower and air-con and the safe box. Card and cash payment is acceptable. Very safe to stay and walk around even at night, the owner is very kind and trustworthy. Very basic breakfast but it OK, no TV and fridge in the room, internet is breaking so often especially in the room, but it works perfectly at the balcony. It is very budget friendly and highly recommend it.

During the day, low tide pulls the water far from the shore, so swimming may not always be possible. If you walk toward the reef, expect to be approached frequently by local beach vendors, which can feel intrusive — especially when you're clearly not carrying money. Local security presence is minimal, so don't expect much intervention in these situations. It's best to come prepared and manage your expectations if you're looking for a peaceful swim.

    Truly enjoyed the pristine beach and the laid back nature of the place. Totally enjoyed several meals at Fish Restaurant which were absolutely delicious. I tried Kingfish, Changu, Perch, White Snapper, Prawns etc. The seafood was phenomenal. We also enjoyed seeing the turtles and the artwork at several curio shops. Also enjoyed an early morning boat ride seeing the dolphins. I can't believe how fast time went by. Looking forward to visiting Zanzibar again.

    The snorkeling was a true adventure, with well-protected marine life and crystal-clear water. Spotting the dolphins was an unexpected bonus! Visiting the sea turtle rehabilitation center and feeding them was a special experience.
