Quirky but fun and unique hotel concept with the ability to stay with your pet, and even leave them in the room. Large rooms hide exceptionally comfortable beds, own personal duvets, with 2 per bed and even snuggle pillows in case you're on your own! That said, you're in for a treat: the shower cabins are large, with great water pressure, if a little fiddly to set the temperature, and their microfibre bath robes are so soft that you're going to want one. The bathroom had a premium feel, and the first night, and every night, I slept like a baby in that giant soft bed! On check-in you get coaster to exchange for a drink from their fridge in Reception and the pineapple theme extends to biscuits that go with the coffee that's in the lobby in the mornings as well the pineapple-infused water available there throughout the day. Oh and the coffee machine in the room is not half bad either. Finally, they're staff are just awesome! They may not be able to help you with quite everything, like the TV in the room would have you believe, but they sure do try and go above and beyond the call of duty.

FAQs about hotels in California

The American Dream

From the searing depths of Death Valley to the snow-capped peaks of the Lake Tahoe mountains, California is a wonderful US state that sums up the American Dream. Nowhere is this more evident than Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood and many stars who grace its red carpets.

In the south-west, Anaheim has a great range of Californian hotels near Disneyland where the magic of the movies comes to life. Sun-drenched San Diego, located close to the Mexican border in the state's south-western tip, is a popular spring break destination as is Palm Springs in a valley surrounded by rugged mountains.

In the well-known wine region of the Napa Valley the vineyards produce some fantastic wines, while Monterey is best known for its spicy cheese and the beautiful coastline that becomes the Big Sur coastal drive. Another driving adventure is the fabled Route 66 and parts of it pass through California, ending at Santa Monica pier.

Along the coast is beautiful Santa Barbara, and further north San Francisco is home to a good proportion of Californian hotels with indoor pools on Booking.com. The Golden Gate city is set around an exclusive bay which ends at Silicon Valley in San Jose, while famous Berkeley University is just across the water. The stunning natural beauty of Yosemite National Park is further east, while Sacramento is to the north-east.

We loved absolutely everything about the Madonna Inn. I had read lots of reviews about the staff being unpleasant, but I have to say that every single person we came in to contact with, were lovely and super helpful. The rooms are fantastic. We stayed in Jungle Rock and my boys LOVED it. The shower is amazing in this room as it's like a waterfall. The beds are huuuuuge too. We stayed a second night in a different room and the housekeeping staff moved our suitcases from one room to another - so slick and smooth! The facilities on the grounds are excellent. We stayed at the pool for hours. We also did the horseriding which I would definitely recommend. Breakfast at the Copper Cafe was lovely and the portions are massive (for someone from the UK) and dinner at the Alex Madonna Steakhouse was also great. I cannot wait to come back.

This is a beautiful hotel! The rooms were exceptionally clean and the room we got allocated was really large with a lovely outdoor seating area in the front. While I definitely have a soft spot for San Diego and visit fairly often, it has gotten more run down in the last 10 years. Mission Beach and Pacific Beach have gotten pretty trashy. The area is mostly for young people looking to get drunk, loud and obnoxious. I prefer the Gaslamp and Seaport Village area but those areas do have issues with homeless people hanging around the area. I think the best area in San Diego is the Torrey Pines area and Coronado Island, both of which I highly recommend staying at if you go to San Diego.

I love the light level of traffic, I can walk everywhere I need to go. The transit system is easily accessible. I really had a great time. Give Mr. Pho a chance, I loved eating there. We also ate breakfast at Denny's on South Harbour, Justice was a great server there. If you go to Disneyland use the free shuttle service, you pay to park at your hotel then you can walk to the shuttle and get in for cheaper than if you pay to park in the parking lot for Disney.

I like that the room is big and clean, but they should have 2 trash cans in the room instead of 1. We stayed there for 3 nights. We didn’t ask for cleaning service the next day, but on the 2nd day we left in the morning came back in the room around 3 pm expecting that our room would be cleaned and ready, but we were disappointed that it hasn’t been cleaned yet. Good thing the cleaner was next door cleaning that room. We just asked for some fresh towels and to empty the trash can. They have reasonable price.

Sacramento is my home town. Been here 45 years. It's nice but has its run down areas. It definitely could use better employees for the businesses around my area.. customer service sucks in most places therefore I refuse to even go to those places... And they're mostly family owned and family ran and trying to apply for work sucks. I get turned down most places I've applied too. Sacramento is not what it used to be and it's sad

I liked the area of the property as its right next to the on and off ramp for the Hwy. Its right next to the Denny's, well as a Walmart super center! Theres also Wendys, and Starbucks across the street! Its far enough from the inner city were there tends to be a lot of riff raff as well low scale crime, as well as drugs. I felt at peace, and you can tell that the management puts a lot towards 2training her staff! Real good hard-working staff as well as very courteous and attentive to the guests needs! I figured that there would be a lot of noise and everything else that's associated with hotels that are more cost effective.

This property needs to be updated. The rooms are dated. I also recieved an erroneous charge after having stayed there over two weeks ago! I was told at checkout that everything was fine. I had no charges to to room nor was there any damage to the property. All was well. Mow, TWO WEEKS later, I was billed 3.38 for some erroneous charge at 4:38 am Fri Sept 3rd. I called almost immediately to inquire about this charge. I spoke to Jennifer at the the front desk and she said it was a charge that quote the girls forgot to charge to my final bill! Not buying it!! I checked out of that property on Sept 14th! She even claimed the charge was listed on the Booking.Com site. The problem is, when I booked the room through the Booking.com site, all taxes AND Fees were included in the price!! Jennifer said she would remove the charge but it shouldn't have been on there in the first place because it was included when the room was booked. She asked for name and said she would remove it. If not, I'm going to contact corporate! I don't buy her story! I have NEVER had any fees charge two weeks after a stay at ANY hotel and I've been travelling for decades!!
