FAQs about hotels in Kruger National Park
Spectacular Stomping Ground of the Big Five
Covering almost 2 million hectares, Kruger is South Africa’s most important national park and is home to the Big Five: lion, African elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino. In the country’s north-eastern corner, by the Swaziland and Mozambique borders, it also sees giraffe, zebra, hyena and crocodile (to name but a few) grace its watering holes and rivers.
Of the 8 South African gates to the park, Crocodile Bridge Gate is closest to Marloth Park and Komatipoort, both housing a good selection of game lodges and hotels near Kruger National Park. To the west, the farming town of Malelane has its own gate.
Kruger Mpumalanga Airport is the region’s main entry point and nearby Nelspruit has the greatest concentration of luxury Kruger Park hotels on Booking.com. The Numbi Gate is around an hour’s drive away, via the town of White River. Also near this gate is Hazyview, while Sabie to the west is peacefully located by a river fed by waterfalls.
A waterfall also plunges to the gorge floor in Graskop to the north, while Hoedspruit is closest to the wonderful Blyde River Canyon. Ha-Lambani has the northernmost Kruger Park accommodation and Phalaborwa to the south has a park gate. Further south are the Timbavati and Balule games reserves, while Skukuza is in the heart of the park, near the main gate.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 77 reviewsWe chose The Outpost Lodge for an impromptu 30th anniversary getaway. We have always wanted to visit the northernmost part of the Kruger to see how it compares to the rest of the park. The Outpost is situated on a hill overlooking the Luvuvhu River and the view from our room was breath-taking. The contemporary open plan rooms have retractable remote-controlled blinds, that offer uninterrupted views of the river when open. It was indeed a once-in-a-lifetime experience to sleep with no walls between you and the wilderness. On the second night, we were treated to elephants trumpeting just outside our room! The lodge is situated in a private concession. The staff mainly consists of members of the Makuleke tribe. We were treated like royalty and no effort was spared to make our stay a memorable one. It is evident that the staff are extremely well trained, but also that they love what they do. Our room was immaculately clean, the food was 5-star and wherever we went, we were greeted with friendly smiles. The fauna, flora and vistas in this part of the Kruger is by far the most impressive of the whole park. We were fortunate enough to visit both the Lanner Gorge and the Fever Forest on game drives. This is not the area of the Kruger you should go to if you want to see the big five, as you probably won’t, but that said, there is still a decent amount of wildlife to see. We saw elephant, zebra, nyala, impala, baboons, kudu and hippo.Guest review byhpelzerSouth Africa
- From $3,500.22 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 28 reviewsThis property is incredible! The rooms were stunning and so large. I had no idea how amazing the safari rides would be- Justice and Elvis did such an amazing job at making us feel safe and finding/getting up close to the big 5. The service is impeccable- Tinyiko our server was so kind and we felt so cared for. I wasn’t expecting much for the food- due to it being all inclusive- but it was absolutely amazing quality, ingredients and preparation.Guest review byBrianUnited States

We enjoyed walking the wooden deck with our binoculars and spot wild Kudu and many birds. I would recommend stay for more than one night, this place is well worth it.Guest review byMorIsrael

Nelspruit is a well run city, s gateway for anyone passing through to Maputo-mozambique, Limpopo, the Kruger Park. The one bad thing about the place is lack of taxi services like Bolt or Uber locally. One has to do with the local minibus taxis which do not always service some areas and operate at set hours. There are some operators but charge speculative fares due to the absence of app based taxis. I'm told this is due to minibus taxi operators blocking their activities. An example is going to/fro the airport which is problematic, or going to Maputo. There are few options.Guest review byZolaSouth Africa - 10.0

The unit was very spacious, well maintained and excellently fitted out. Close to the Kruger Park Restuarant food was simple and very tasty Beautiful Golf course very well maintained - even some game on show (impala). Monkeys were a bit of a pest the first day, then didn't bother us after that I would avoid the route via Sabi unless you want a very slow tedious drive!Guest review byGraemeSouth Africa - 10.0
Impressive little town with lots to do in town and in...
Impressive little town with lots to do in town and in surrounding areas. The town had great little shops and amazing restaurants with lovely ambiance and views. It felt clean and the roads recently tarred. The grass of the game reserves' boundaries next to the main roads were all cut which looked well kept and neat. It was just disappointing that it was not possible to do self drives or walks inside any of the surrounding game reserves unless you were staying in the reserve. The Kruger was your only option. My favourite restaurants were the Blue Mountain restaurant, The Argula Experience at Zandspruit and Aerotel. Great trips in the surrounding area were Blyde river canyon boat excursion, Mango Mohlatsi and Maholoholo rehabilitation centre. Had a great trip to the Kruger Park entering at the Orpen gate and taking the Timbavati road to Olifants camp and the river dirt road to Letaba and exiting via the Phalaborwa gate. Saw lots of game following the dirt roads next to the rivers.Guest review byHenrietteSouth Africa - 8.0
There was an adquate number of restaurants.
There was an adquate number of restaurants. The shops were very sparing and contained basic goods. Security was good. The only downside was the additional time taken to get there because of extensive road works after Bombela (Nelspruit) and the inordinate volume of slow moving coal trucks going back and forth to Mozambique.Guest review byDaveSouth Africa - 8.0

Nature is beautiful. Everything about Graskop is natural like God's Window, different waterfalls and so on. I had a great weekend and we couldn't visit all the beautiful places because of time.Guest review byPinkySouth Africa - 10.0

Spacious and comfortable room and lovely pool and gym facilities. Immediate access the park so great for self-drives or guided tours. The breakfast buffet was excellent but the evening buffet was pretty average, however, there are other restaurant choices within walking distance.Guest review byMelaneySouth Africa - 8.0
Not too far from the N4.
Not too far from the N4. About an hours drive to most attractions, like the Kruger, Lone Creek Falls, Lisbon Falls and God's Window. Graskop Gorge is also on the way to Blyde River Canyon. The scenery while driving makes the drive worth it.Guest review byJodee - 8.0
We use Malelane as our last stop into Kruger.
We use Malelane as our last stop into Kruger. Being 7 hours away not only is it a good resting stop after a long drive but also the opportunity to stock up on Supplies. There is everything you need at the Mall. Between Spar & now Woolworths you are able to stock up well. Nice and close to entrance to Kruger.Guest review byJiff RobertSouth Africa - 2.0
Phalaborwa as a town was a deep disappointment.
Phalaborwa as a town was a deep disappointment. The roads are in a very bad state and the general condition of the streets, pavements and rubbish lying around is a disgrace for the municipality. There are no streetlights working and the overall deterioration of the town is the last thing one wants to show overseas visitors. The tar road leading to the Kruger gate is obviously in a good condition but that is all. The Pick and Pay and the Spur are closed due to a fire incident and there are not a lot of restaurants to go to dinner for.Guest review byKarinSouth Africa - 10.0

Waterval Self-Catering Holiday Home exceeded all our expectations! The house is beautifully maintained, spotlessly clean, and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable and stress-free stay. From the cozy bedrooms to the fully stocked kitchen, every detail has been thoughtfully prepared. What makes this place truly special is its breathtaking natural setting. Surrounded by peaceful scenery, with the sound of flowing water and the sight of abundant birdlife, it felt like the perfect escape from the busy world. We enjoyed relaxing outdoors, having a braai, and soaking up the tranquility while still being close to shops and attractions when needed. The hosts were welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home while giving us the privacy to enjoy the property at our own pace. It’s ideal for families, groups of friends, or couples looking for a romantic getaway. We left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and eager to return. If you’re looking for a hidden gem that combines comfort, beauty, and warm hospitality, Waterval Self-Catering Holiday Home is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!Guest review byMamothibeliLesotho
