Matei
The luxurious Taveuni Island Resort & Spa is set on 10 acres of tropical gardens, a 2-minute drive from Matei Airport on Taveuni Island. It features free airport transfers, private beach access and a restaurant with ocean views. The property enjoys a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by dense rainforests, waterfalls and streams. The quality of this place is exceptional. Perfectly integrated with its natural surroundings, it offers a haven of true relaxation. I have traveled widely, yet this is one of the rare places I truly want to return to. Taveuni is a magical island — unspoiled, lush, and refreshingly free of mass tourism. Staying at this hotel felt like being immersed in an untouched piece of Fijian paradise. Our villa had a breathtaking view of the sea and felt wonderfully secluded, even with ten or so other villas nearby. Spending time in our private garden, with the ocean at our feet, was unforgettable. The villa was extremely spacious, with a supremely comfortable bed that made every night’s sleep a joy. The restaurant is another highlight, offering spectacular views and excellent food with a different menu each day. For variety, a charming local restaurant just a 10-minute walk away provides authentic island dining. What truly sets this place apart is the staff. Unlike the impersonal feel of large resorts, here everything is personal, warm, and genuine. The team was never too busy to answer questions or anticipate needs, often acting proactively because they genuinely cared. A special mention to Storm, in the hotel office, whose support was remarkable. She not only helped me reschedule my trip after an injury, but was constantly available with advice, before and during my stay. Likewise, Raymond tirelessly personalized tours and even used family connections to assist with the final part of my trip in Nadi. Both embodied true hospitality: caring, patient, and committed to making guests feel at home. Their involvement made my stay feel more than a holiday — it felt like being welcomed into a family. Leaving was genuinely difficult, and I will always remember their warmth until I return.

Manager & staff were amazing - super friendly, great service and really helpful.
The food was very good and meals with Spanish Mackerel were exceptional.
Private, peaceful and relaxing with plenty to do.

As snorkelers, we weren't sure if we'd fit in at a dive resort, however, our concerns were completely unfounded. Heading out on the dive boat in the mornings and exploring the reef with a guide (while the divers explored other deeper parts of the reef) was exactly the experience we were hoping for. From the moment we checked in, we knew we were somewhere different to any other resort we'd stayed at. First and foremost, the staff are what make Taveuni Dive Resort so special. HIGHLY recommend the meal plan as the food is incredibly tasty and beautifully presented (besides, there's no kitchen in the bures, so cooking your own food is nigh impossible... and why would you want to!?). Speaking of bures, although no air conditioning, the dual fans were sufficient to keep us cool on the hot nights. Windows are all protected with mesh, so no issues with bugs. The shower was great (best in the afternoon when water is hottest). The king (maybe super king) bed was really comfortable. It was quite a novelty for us to have a turndown service! Starlink WiFi Internet is fast, but limited to the restaurant area. Cellphone reception is present, but patchy and slow data rates.
For location, the resort is only a 15min boat ride from the reef. It's a 1.5hr drive to Lavena (one way) over some very rough dirt roads (the sealed sections are a blessing). The dive/snorkel outings are half day activities, so it's possible to do something else in the afternoon. The pool was great afterwards!
Breakfast was selected the night before (at dinner) and had a good range to choose from. The breakfasts were excellent (as was all the food!). All meals are served at the restaurant. The staff catered for gluten free (banana bread was so good). Coffee, tea and filtered water was complimentary (dairy, soy and almond milk was available). Packed lunches can also be booked the night before to pick up at breakfast if heading out for the day.

This is a very very special boutique resort. While staying here, you feel like you truly are part of a family that is caring for your every need. The meals were phenomenal. The staff threw together an incredible birthday evening for my son’s 18th birthday including a homemade chocolate cake, song, and kava making celebration. The setting is pure beauty and serenity .
Lovely resort, staff so friendly and welcoming. Diving was good- good staff on the boats and very well looked after. Food was lovely, room very comfortable and quiet. Good shower and lovely bathroom products supplied. Massage also very good. A very nice peaceful and friendly place to stay. would happily return.
Rooms were spacious. Food and drinks at the restaurant were excellent. Great coral reef directly out from the resort. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Would stay here again.
Friendly staff. Rooms were large and clean. You can see the bones of what was once a 5 star resort.
The owner sent abusive messages after my stay. Allen had followed me on Facebook - not ‘friends’ (I’m a photographer) and a few days after I left sent unprovoked and upsetting insults and accusations to my private message box regarding an opinion he disagreed with. The resorts response is totally untruthful.
The property is on a beautiful hill surrounded from a curated park . Walk distance from the beach , diving shop and two bar and restaurant ! The Diva’s restaurant at the resort was our favourite place where to eat !
Stayed at Maravu because it is a short stroll to Salt Dive , (we had booked a weeks diving with Salt). We had Superior Bure which was very spacious, the bed was comfortable and King size. Lovely grounds and gardens ( full of coconut palms, papaya etc) with stunning sunset view over the sea. This was once a high-end resort, now starting to fade and show its age. Maravu has tried to sustain its business by adding "back packer"dorms as well as Bures. It was great to meet young travellers and divers from all over.
Beautiful very small resort. Incredible well-maintained property with fabulous rooms, staff, food, pool and snorkeling right out front during high tide. What’s not to love!
