Truly one of the highlights of our time in Japan. The building, rooms, and onsen are incredible and the hospitality can't be beat. We were caught in a rainstorm before our scheduled pickup and the owners so kindly dried our sopping wet clothes and shoes. After that, we warmed up in the onsen which left our skin feeling so smooth and headed to a delicious and expansive dinner. We finished the night falling asleep to the roaring sound of the waterfall due to the heavy rains. We'll definitely be back.

We were welcomed at the train station and pampered throughout our stay. The staff made an effort to communicate with us in English and it all worked fine. The bath(s) are amazing and the atmosphere in the hotel was very pleasant and familiar. The dinner experience was something we will long remember.

Feels like “the real Japan” I enjoyed sitting by the “window” enjoying a beer for at least an hour. The bird song made it idyllic. The clothing and getup is also nice and proper. It has an onsen that is next level, also with an outdoor area that feels really special.

We loved our stay at this ryokan! Every one in our group wants to share that Hotel Keigetsu answered our prayers after our long hike on the Nakasendo trail. They were very accommodating and just generally pleasant people. We started our stay by unfortunately missing a bus due to a translation error on our end and they essentially rescued us from Komaba with their hotel shuttle after dark. They also helped us reserve bus tickets out of Hirugami later. They are clearly experienced with helping guide their guests to and from their ryokan. If possible, I recommend trying to time your arrival closer to 4 pm in case you get lost like we did. Also maybe consider asking for transportation recommendations because they seem well versed in the travel aspect of their guests journey. Dinner typically starts at 6 30pm at the latest. We arrived about an hour late on the shuttle when coming in but they still fed us after hours and we all showered and went to bed very happy. The dinner food was traditional Japanese with some beef and fish courses. Breakfast was similar with fish, egg and tofu courses. We ate in the banquet hall with private dividers. I don't know if they are able to accommodate diners in the rooms, but our party was too large for private in-room dining regardless. The banquet hall was plenty nice for us and our hostess was never far when we needed a drink etc. There were ample amount of courses, plenty of food to satisfy hungry hikers. The presentation of the food was delightful, the chef was masterful in assembling things and the food was very fresh. Regarding the Onsen, I'm a shy American who has not yet worked up the courage for the public baths so for myself and my husband I booked the 4 room suite with a private bath (room 407), it has hot spring waters piped in to a large wooden tub. It was exactly what these sore hikers muscles needed.

Felt like the price quality ratio was quite good, considering the comfortable beds, great onsen with outside bath with no roof, hence able to stay in the onsen and just look at the stars , quiet location in the mountains. We went by car and parked for free, but I understand they have some shuttle buses for one of the nakasendo posttowns.

Beautiful location in its own valley in the mountains. In late April the flowering peach trees look beautiful! This property is an annex of Hotel Fukinomori, just across the car park, and is an excellent way to enjoy the hotel’s facilities at a cheaper price, especially the amazing onsen and its view. If you don’t mind missing out on the kaiseki course meal then this is a great ryokan experience for a much lower price. It’s also a short drive / shuttle bus to the nearby post-towns of Tsumago and Magome, highly recommended!

Its a bit remote, very large hotel. The facilities are excellent, great Onsen, large bedroom. A bit of a small bathroom. The lobby relaxation area is very pleasant, with inclusive drinks, icecream and small snackbags. The buffet style restaurant is very large and offers plenty of choice. Nice choice of Yukata’s.

It was a beautiful, exclusive ryokan with exceptional views and outstanding food. Our hospitable and friendly host Koike did everything to provide a memorable stay. He helped us with transport to walk the trail and made sure we were safe driving in the winter time. The outside onsen with waterfall is an amazing experience.

Everything, apart from sleeping on a futon (no western bedrooms available)! The food choice and quality at breakfast and dinner were amazing. Access to the Onsen really straightforward - we lived this experience! The bedroom was spacious, with seperate toilet, basin and wet room

The relaxedness of this Ryokan is simply stunning. It was my second time in 8 years that I visited this beautiful location, this time with my spouse. The room was huge, we had a massage seat that was all part of the package and dinner and breakfast were delicious. The onsens were superior and the attention of the staff was superb. Over the years the level of English of staff members increased significantly even when google translate always works in case of emergency.

We didn’t stay in this hotel. For reasons not known to us the hotel was closed. We were allowed to stay in the hotel next door (hotel Fukinomori) which meant a huge upgrade: - traditional Japanese room with tatami mats - onsen with wonderful views - lounge with free drinks - free shuttle to and from the hotel Also very friendly staff!
